rachel ray: 3 Easy Ways To Shape Up Your Kitchen - 01/23/13 06:09 AM
I saw an interesting article in Rachel Ray recently that discussed how to shape up your kitchen.

1.  Fill your cabinet with color.  Use a plate that contrasts with your food.  For example, a red plate for white pasta.  You will serve yourself 22% less food.

2.  Check your glasses.  Want to keep your liquid calories in check?  Buy tall, slim glasses.  Adults pour almost 20 percent more juice into wide, short ones----even though the two glasses hold the same amount.

3.  Ditch the junk.  People who keep junk food on the counter weigh, on average, 20 pounds … (16 comments)

rachel ray: 9 Uses For Mayonnaise! - 07/09/12 07:18 AM

I saw an article in Rachel Ray Magazine that included 9 great uses for mayonnaise.  Here they are:

1.  Polish the patio.  Mayo replenishes the moisture in the finish and gives it shine and protection.
2.  Soothe dry skin.  Mayo hydrates and prevents skin from flaking.
3.  Unstick price tags.  Mayo helps loosen the glue.
4.  Get silky strands.  Mayo encourages hair growth.
5.  Clean a burst bubble.  Mayo softens the sticky gum.
6.  Get houseplants glossy.  Mayo helps it look extra vibrant.
7.  Salvage your silver.  Mayo will help tackle tarnish.
8.  Indulge your digits.  It helps … (13 comments)

rachel ray: Caffeine and Your Skincare Routine? Who Knew? - 06/23/12 06:21 AM
I read an article in Rachel Ray the other week, and it said that if you have a skin woe, a "caffeine fix" could be the solution!Depuff Your Eyes. Caffeine is dehydrating, but when it comes to skin, that can be a good thing! Siphoning excess fluid can smooth out puffy eyes and temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Ward Off Aging. Research shows that caffeine's ability to fend off free radicals triggered by UV exposure gives you anti aging benefits. But while sipping a cup of joe can boost the power of sunscreen, it provides no sun protection on its … (18 comments)

rachel ray: Final Summer Food Myths - 05/27/12 06:30 AM

Here are the final 2 Summer Food Myths from the Rachel Ray Magazine:

1. MYTH: Grilled foods up your cancer risk. FALSE! Grilled food is safe; it's charring you should avoid--that black, ashy layer may contain risk-increasing chemicals. To nix charring, cook at a lower temp to stop flare ups, and marinate with antioxidant rich herbs. Research suggests that taking these steps can help fend off the concerning compounds. By the way, the chemicals form only on animal proteins. If you like grilled vegetables with dark, crispy bits, have at them!2. MYTH: Drinking hot tea on a blazing … (16 comments)

rachel ray: Summer Food Myths Series - 05/24/12 05:48 AM
I found some great info in a recent Rachel Ray Magazine that I thought I would share with you in a 3 part series, of 2 myths a piece.  Enjoy!

If you pass on the mayonnaise-heavy salads at the backyard barbecue and worry about leaving your plastic water bottle in the sun, relax.  Here's the straight scoop on staying healthy when it's hot out.
1.  MYTH.  Mayo-based salads left unrefrigerated can make you sick.  FALSE!  Mayo is very safe for two reasons:  It's pasteurized at the factory and it's full of acid, which creates an environment that stops harmful bacteria … (23 comments)

rachel ray: Infuse Cooking Oil With Mints! - 03/13/12 07:06 AM
Who knew?  Another Rachel Ray find....

If you've got a stash in your purse, pocket or car door, you've got a minty dessert in the making!  Drop a peppermint or spearmint candy into a small bowl of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), stir and let sit to infuse all the flavors.  Strain, then brush the minty oil onto fruit skewers before grilling.  Alternatively, stir a mint candy into a melted chocolate dip for fresh strawberries.  YUMMO!  I may have to try this trick out tonight...let me know if you do, how it works as well!

rachel ray: Alternatives for Parmigiano-Reggiano! - 10/26/11 09:43 AM
I read the Rachel Ray Magazine and love her recipes.  But, like most folks, sometimes I can't find Parmigiano-Reggiano Cheese at my grocery store, and I may not have time to go to a specialty store.  So, what other cheeses can I use as a substitute for it?
You can use another hard, aged cheese that's good for grating.  Grana padano, which is cheaper, milder and melts a bit easier than Parmigiano-reggiano; Asiago, which is sharp but buttery, and Pecorino-Romano, which has a more pungent flavor.
Also, if you see parmesan cheese in your grocery store, make sure the word "reggiano" … (11 comments)
