waukesha realtor: Happy Memorial Day Everyone! - 05/28/12 07:10 AM
MEMORIAL DAY 2012by Donna F. Miller Should I wear black on Memorial DayAnd mourn the dead in a somber wayAnd visit the fields in which they lay? Or should my clothes be a patriot's choiceOf red, white and blue as we rejoiceAnd celebrate freedom with cheerful voice? Remember the fallen as you choose. They paid the price; they paid our dues. We know we're lucky to be in our shoes. So whether at home, the beach or the mallStop on that day and pause to recall. The American Vet gave a gift to us all. Freedom forever, we hope and we pray.Remember the … (16 comments)

waukesha realtor: Summer Food Myths Series - 05/24/12 05:48 AM
I found some great info in a recent Rachel Ray Magazine that I thought I would share with you in a 3 part series, of 2 myths a piece.  Enjoy!

If you pass on the mayonnaise-heavy salads at the backyard barbecue and worry about leaving your plastic water bottle in the sun, relax.  Here's the straight scoop on staying healthy when it's hot out.
1.  MYTH.  Mayo-based salads left unrefrigerated can make you sick.  FALSE!  Mayo is very safe for two reasons:  It's pasteurized at the factory and it's full of acid, which creates an environment that stops harmful bacteria … (23 comments)

waukesha realtor: Summer Energy Savings! - 05/23/12 07:10 AM
Keep cool inside your house this summer season, while trimming your bill in the process.  Follow one or all of these smart Summer Energy Saving Tips:
1. Tune up your A/C.  If you have central air, hire a licensed HVAC contractor to do a preseason check.  He will do a routine maintenance that can prevent costly problems later.  Every 2 or 3 years, have the ducts checked too.  Proper sealing and insulation can cut energy use by 20 percent.  Clean the filter monthly, and replace it at least every 3 months.

2.  Set your thermostat.  Installing a programmable thermostat can … (12 comments)

waukesha realtor: Don't Forget These Parts! - 05/17/12 07:56 AM
A few days ago I did a post on the importance of sunscreen and some accompanying tips. But, it is also very important not to forget some other areas to cover with sunscreen when you enjoy your summer activities.

Even though they may not be the first areas you think of to cover with sunscreen, certain "easy to forget" places are very susceptible to sun damage and skin cancer. Four often forgotten or overlooked (but important to protect) spots include:
1. LIPS
2. Back Of Ears
3. Part In Your Hair/Scalp
4. Top Of Feet

So, the next time … (15 comments)

waukesha realtor: Feet, Who Knew? - 05/16/12 06:35 AM
Did you know that 88 percent of American women wear shoes that are too small for them?  Your feet expand due to weight gain, pregnancy and even age.  Tendons and ligaments lose some of their elasticity as you get older, so you may grow a half size every 10 years after age 40!   Avoid pinched toes by having your feet measured each time you buy new footwear.  I always thought your feet shrunk as you got older.  I can't remember the last time that I got my foot measured, so I will have to do this next time!

waukesha realtor: 3 Mistakes At The Grocery Store - 04/27/12 06:27 AM
Prices on very similar items can vary a great deal from one area of the store to another.  Some common mistakes to avoid at the grocery store:

1.   BUYING CHEESE.  Do not buy cheese in the deli section.  Cheeses found in the deli or gourmet areas of the supermarket can cost twice as much, or more, as similar varieties in the dairy section.

2.  BUYING NUTS.   Nuts in the produce and baking aisles of a typical supermarket carry very different price tags for the same thing.  So, check both sections and compare prices before you buy.

3.  BUYING … (27 comments)

waukesha realtor: Sweet Talk - 04/10/12 07:08 AM
If you are a dessert-for-dinner kind of a person, here's news.  It may not be doing your teeth or waistline much good, but it could be making you a nicer person.  In a series of 5 studies published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, subjects with a sweet tooth were rated as more agreeable and were more willing to volunteer to help others.  What is the connection?  Study author Brian Meier believes that sugary tastes and positive social behavior may activate the same brain regions (the sweet spots?).

waukesha realtor: Try this next time too! - 03/24/12 07:14 AM
I don't eat steak, but my husband does. I have heard of doing this before, but never tried it.  Maybe I will suggest he takes Rachel Ray's advice on this one next time he has steak.

Flavor a steak with coffee singles!  Coffee lends a smoky, chocolaty flavor to rich red meats like sirloin and filet mignon.  When  you are stuck without marinating supplies, tear open a single-serving coffee packet and use your fingers to rub the coffee grounds directly onto a salted steak before broiling or grilling.  Has anyone tried this one? Please share!

I love what I do. I enjoy working with my clients, especially first time home buyers.  I just received this client testimonial:

"Kristin was a pleasure to work with. With her high energy, she sought out many prospective properties early in our search.  As first time home buyers, her knowledge in real estate was a comfort; knowing that she was advocating for us. She was quick to respond to emails, so we never felt like we were left hanging. I would definitely recommend her.                           Mark and Kathy"

waukesha realtor: 5 Ways to Clean the Air - 03/01/12 06:19 AM
The air inside your house is up to five times more polluted than what you breathe outside.  Use these 5 strategies to improve your indoor air quality:

1.  Don't Let Anyone Smoke.  Secondhand smoke contains hundreds of carcinogenic and toxic chemicals.

2.  Ventilate.  Crack a window and run exhaust fans (make sure they vent outdoors and not into other parts of the house).  Move furniture away from outside walls for better air circulation.

3.  Switch Paints.  Most paints release volatile organic compounds even after they have dried.  These gases have been linked to cancers, memory loss, development damage … (18 comments)

waukesha realtor: Food Prep And Cooking Shortcuts - 02/19/12 07:53 AM
Here are some Food Prep Tips:
1.  Use kitchen shears to snip delicate herbs like chives and tarragon.
2.  Cooked beet skins will slip off easily while they'are still warm.  To keep your hands stain-free, put the beets in a plastic bag and peel them from the outside.
3.  Microwave garlic cloves for 10 seconds and the skin will rub right off.
4.  When you make burgers, indent the center with your thumb...the patty will flatten evenly as it cooks.

Here are some Cooking Shortcuts:
1.  Chill your bowl and beaters before whipping heavy cream, and the job will be … (10 comments)
