In 2004, Army Sergeant Jorge De Leon lost his leg and suffered loss of hearing and Traumatic Brain Injury in Afghanistan. While maneuvering his Humvee to avoid an insurgent attack, he drove over an anti-tank mine. Wheelchair-bound and despairing of how he would take care of his family after being discharged,
Jorge dedicated himself to recovery.
Today he walks with the use of a computer controlled prosthetic leg and has joined the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes full-time as a national spokesman. He lives with his family in San Antonio where he also helps identify other wounded veterans who need financial and emotional assistance as a Brooke Army Medical Liaison for CSAH.
The mission of the Texas Sentinels Foundation is to provide qualified wounded veterans and their families with new homes in Texas in conjunction with our four-year Texas Sentinel Foundation life scholarship, job placement and ongoing mentorship, enabling returning veterans to adjust and excel in civilian life.
Founded in 2007, the non-profit organization Texas Sentinels Foundation consists of RE/MAX office owners and agents in partnership with community businesses across Texas. Since its inception, members of the Texas Sentinels Foundation have raised over $100,000 in funds for wounded veterans.
Want to know how you can contribute?
Jorge De Leon will be introduced to the San Antonio Real Estate Community on October 27, 2009 at The Club at Sonterra. There will be an Introduction Luncheon at 11:30am followed by an informational and organizational meeting afterward.
Please come meet this American Hero and help him and his family achieve the American Dream for which they have sacrificed so much.
Tickets are $30 each, with all proceeds benefiting the Texas Sentinels Foundation and wounded veterans like Jorge.

A LIVE testimonial from a new home buyer! ~ San Antonio Real Estate
This is the second home Royce has purchased from me. He knows what he likes & makes quick decisions. He knows a good deal when he sees one & doesn't let them get away from him!
Royce is a civilian contractor in Afganistan working a couple of months out of the year there then comes back. Recently while in Afganistan Royce contacted me saying "I found a home that I love!", I showed it to his dad who reported back to him, we wrote up an offer the next day.
Sight unseen! Like I said, he knows a good deal when he sees one & doesn't let them get away from him!
I asked Royce for a quick testimonial LIVE & on the spot! Here's Royce, after our closing today:

We've been working hard all summer long. Long days, lot's of contracts & some months without a day off! Texas had an unreasonably hot June, July & August but clients were jumping off the fence left & right so we helped them!
None of that has changedBUT,our office did take a day off without computers, clients or phones. Well, most of us did BUT one thing we all did was have a spectacular time!
My sister Sheila and I hosted a "Summer Sales Shindig" at Lake LBJ, complete with water sports, prizes, food & games....what a blast! While I didn't bring my computer, I did bring my camera!
Everyone had a blast & it was a great way to get together, have some smiles & relax. Thanks to Jeanna Martinez for allowing us to have the party at her lake home....we had a great time!
While we are sad for summer to come to an end, we all look forward to next year's summer sales shindig!

I don't know about youse guys... (yes, I said "youse"... are you gonna make fun of the way I talk now?) but I have been working non-stop with first-time-buyers, going out to find their first home... in a frenzy to purchase a home in time to take advantage of the $8,000 tax credit.
Now we're not going 60 mph.... but we are going 35 mph, and we're about to hit the wall. The wall of "you won't have enough time to close before November 30th". November 30th, for those who don't know, is the deadline for closing in order to get the $8,000 credit.
In order to close by November 30th... you're going to have to have a signed contract soon.... very soon. Maybe within the next 30 days or so. So if you're going to take advantage of some of your very own stimulus money... you need to get out there and find a home... just about... NOW!
The good news? (Yes, there is some good news)... the good news is that it's always possible that they'll extend the credit... but if they do so, they'll likely not do so until well after the first of the year. But in the past, when this type of stimulus was "extended", the often made it retroactive to the lapsed deadline.
What did I just say? Well, I said that if they do "renew the credit" in February of 2010... it's likely that they'll make it so that it also covers anyone who purchased a home between December 1, 2009 and whenever the new stimulus credit begins. The only problem is that those buying in December and January... will be working without a net. They just won't know, if they are, or are not going to receive a credit.
Ladies and gentlemen... the sands of time are falling through the hourglass. Will you, or won't you get $8,000.... (or more?) I dunno...
Surprise me!

And the rain keeps coming down in San Antonio, Texas!
We've been moaning & groaning about it for months. Grass, plants & our spirits were dead. Fireworks were cancelled on the 4th of July & the "burn ban" has been in effect I can't even remember how long.
We've tried doing the "rain dance" as well as the "go away drought disco", heck we even got desperate & started doing the "flooding fandango" ALL, without any luck.
Sometime last week all our hopes were answered, it started to RAIN! Little baby drops then great big drops then for days non-stop & everything was wet, things started looking perkier & everyone forgot how to drive again! It's a beautiful thing! AND, it hasn't stopped!
We really needed it so we won't complain, here's the rain in all it's beauty:

I have a few dogs. My mom likes to call it "the zoo". Just three, perhaps one too many, 2 yorkies & a lab, Jinxsey.
Jinxsey's a puppy, she's challenging, she's fun & she's annoying as hell sometimes but I love her, that's why she stays.
Lately since I have been really busy selling Real Estate I have been so annoyed when I come home that Jinxsey has chewed this, torn that or EATEN something, anything: magnets, shoes, the yorkies (ok, just chewed on them), newspapers, tortillas, ok, you get the picture.
Last night while she was calm I thought about all I have learned from her in her few short months, and how I should use what I have learned in my Real Estate career. Here's my synopsis:
Always, above all else, have fun. Have fun showing, have fun researching, have fun teaching, have fun listing!
Jinxsey doesn't know anything else but FUN, why should we?
Never stop learning. Be curious, be nosy & ask questions. This is the only way you will keep your mind moving & spinning.
Part of the reason Jinxsey is such a handful is she puts her nose into everything & won't stop until she's satisfied her curiousity!
Find a good friend that understands you, encourages you & is someone that you trust. They will be your rock when times get tough.
It's obvious Jinxsey has that in Riley, regardless of their difference in size.
If you need to take a break, DO IT! Take an hour, take a day, heck, take a month! We all need rest & relaxation or we will get burned out & nobody wants that!
Jinxsey obviously has this down pat.
I am learning from Jinxsey & hopefully NOW, she will leran from me! Can't we all cheers to that?
