Restaurant Review ~ Redstone American Grill ~ Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois - 09/27/08 03:55 PM
We are on day 4 of our Chicago, IL journey.  Learning all we can at the Star Power conference we took a break last night & had dinner at a FABULOUS steak restaurant called Redstone American Grill and boy was it delicious!
We are not blessed with a Redstone grill in San Antonio so this was a great treat to take part in.  We hooked up with a couple of our new Star Power friends from Utah, IL & Wyoming and had a great time.
This is the bar area inside Redstone, there are a couple of fire places throughout the … (4 comments)

~ Awareness Test ~ What are ya lookin' at? - 09/25/08 09:41 PM
I saw this today and thought it very interesting.  It was presented to the Star Power group in an effort for us to FOCUS on the bigger picture.  Not just what is in front of your eyes.  I had not seen this video prior to today and was AMAZED as I thought I was very aware of all that was going on.  The point of the video is that you focus on the wrong things and the things you miss (the contract, the call, the listing) is because you are focused on all the other noise around you.  Enjoy!

Restaurant Review ~ Brio Tuscan Grille ~ Lombard, Illinois ~ - 09/24/08 11:01 PM
We made it to Chicago (actually Lombard but close enough!)!
We had quite an ordeal at the airport since we didn't have a reservation for a car but we had a delightful dinner!  We found ourselves a hop, skip & a jump from the Westin Hotel at Brio Tuscan Grille and boy was it delicious!
After googling Brio I find it is mainly in Ohio, Florida, GA & other states around the area.  We don't have one in SA so we set out to try something new!  We were glad to find it!  Here's the cute little patio area where you can watch … (11 comments)

This blog is headed to the Go Star Power University in Chicago, IL! - 09/23/08 06:34 PM
Got your bags packed?
My Sister Sheila and I sure do!  We are packing up & heading out tomorrow to Chicago!
Chic-a-gooo, Chi-cag-oooo!
I am so excited.  We are going to the 2008 Star Power University.
Leadership University starts 9/25 & Buyer specilization University starts 9/29!  I am especially excited about Buyer specilization.  I can't wait to learn about all the things that other agents around the world are doing, share ideas & learn new tricks!
We both have been trying to get things to an "easily manageable" state while we are gone.  Hopefully we were successful since we take off in the AM!  It's hard to … (4 comments)

~San Antonio, Texas is hooked on recycling~ You can be too! - 09/22/08 01:04 PM
San Antonio's H-E-B grocery stores can help you out & show you how.  I have seen these little recycling bins outside the main doors of H-E-B for months & recently started paying attention.

It's a convenient way to bring back your used shopping bags, dry cleaning bags, newspaper bags & stretch film.  How convenient & fun! You can get your kids involved by talking to them about how they can help save the environment.
An even better idea is to buy the reusable bags H-E-B has for sale.  A couple of bags holds a ton of groceries & helps save the environment.  The bags … (2 comments)

Fun, not business, draws visitors to San Antonio - 09/20/08 10:44 PM
I read an interesting article in San Antonio's (only) paper the San Antonio Express News by Carlos Guerra.  Unlike the name of the article the meat & potatoes of the writing focused on money for convention centers in San Antonio that was money misspent in his opinion.
Well, probably alot of SA's residents opinion, BUT, so not my point.

What was of interest to me was the point (which wasn't expanded upon) that Tourism is no longer the city of San Antonio's largest employer.  That the "tourism" department of SA wasn't hurting so much after 9/11 because we weren't as HUGE as … (8 comments)

Restaurant Review ~ Piatti's Ristorante & Bar ~ San Antonio, Texas ~ The Quarry - 09/19/08 07:31 PM
My sister Sheila and I had lunch today at Piatti's Ristorante & Bar in the quarry off 281 on Basse Road.  Right around the corner from shopping galore you can stop in for a bite to eat.
We were on a mission to have lunch so shopping was not in the cards, we had food on the mind.
What a delicious environment, meal & experience.  Piatti's has lunch, dinner, dessert & a wine list. All of my favorite things!

We started with the yummy bread & caesar salad.   The caesar salad has romaine hearts, pecorino romano, herbed croutons & garlic anchovy dressing.  Next … (11 comments)

~San Antonio ranks #1 for AFFORDABILITY with Travel & Leisure magazine~ - 09/16/08 12:53 PM
Have you seen the results?  Travel & Leisure magazine has released it's result's for the 2008 study for Favorite Cities.
My favorite city is right up there with the best of them!
San Antonio came in with some pretty impressive rankings.    Choosing 25 top U.S. cities in 45 different categories Travel & Leisure ranked the cities from culture, nightlife, people, visitor experience, etc.
So how did San Antonio do?  This year San Antonio favored pretty well in the Numero uno spot for affordability.  With the median home income around $193,0000* San Antonio has many different things to offer young families who are in need of affordable prices.

Let's give em' something to blog about..... - 09/13/08 12:12 PM
Blogging for business?  Blogging for networking?  Blogging about Real Estate?  Blogging about your cat?
I have done my homework.  I have read many, many, many posts about watching your content, make sure it is real estate related & stay on task, stay on topic - make your point, sum it up & move on and I have to say, I disagree.
When we put clients in our car and drive around town looking at homes or lots or neighborhoods is the topic always about Real Estate?  Yes, we start out with getting the pertinent facts about what they want & such and … (34 comments)

Hey IKE! Why dontcha take a HIKE?!!!?? - 09/12/08 09:18 PM
I read  Pippa Mac's blog on IKE in the Woodland's, Texas and was shocked at the shenanigans of the grocery stores not being prepared for the shoppers (seriously, I understand the meat, chili, water, etc. but BANANA's?  what gives??!!  We are going to be "hunkered down" for days, maybe weeks, we will buy BANANAS?? Oh, wait, they are gone, i spose we won't be getting our potassium fill).
I was personally spooked so I started paying attention to my hometown & what mother nature might be bringing our way.  SA is expected to get 15 MPH winds starting this evening & 30-40 MPH winds tomorrow...not a big … (8 comments)

First Time Homebuyers - Steps for Success! - 09/10/08 11:10 PM
I recently worked with a first time homebuyer.  She was a referral with perfect credit, cash in the bank & a stable, good paying job.  As a first time buyer she was very excited and stressed at the same time. She had a ton of questions, as well, she should have.  Buying a home is a big deal!!  I like working with first time homebuyers because they ask questions, the basic ones. They tend to listen to your answers and value professional opinions.  It reminds me they are all pretty much in the same boat.  In need of our guidance.

"You have my permission to get your claws out girl!" - 09/09/08 12:08 PM

Excuse me?  This is what I heard at 7:53 this morning by my buyer.
We have been negotiating a contract with a Relocation company (AT&T's) since Sunday.  She loves the home, has driven by it 5 times, brought 3 friends over & her mom has bought landscaping for the joint already (It's only Tuesday but hey, who doesn't love that kinda enthusiasm?!).
Is it possible we could not get this home??!!  As a matter of fact, it is...
We made a full price offer, FULL PRICE, asked for the washer & dryer to stay only, nothing abnormal.  We will pay our own closing costs, we … (4 comments)

Martinis bar - San Antonio, Texas~ review ~ Fun, Fun, Fun - 09/08/08 01:23 PM
Martinis is a very well hidden, close to home, hot spot with the young & the old, cool cat hang out in San Antonio, Texas.
Right behind North Star mall off San Pedro in a strip center that has had it's share of comings & goings of trendy shops.  Martins has been a staple of entertainment in north central SA over the years.
So, what can you expect at Martinis?
The owner, AKA - "the entertainment" struts his stuff on this very tiny stage singing favorites from Willie Nelson, Jimmy Buffet, Neil Diamond, heck, whatever your little heart desires.  Just drop your request at his feet with a couple of bucks & he'll sing … (5 comments)

2008 San Antonio Parade of homes ~ Recap - 09/08/08 11:44 AM
This Saturday was a hot & busy day in San Antonio to attend the 2008 Parade of Homes.  The parade of homes was held this year just off Bulverde road in San Antonio, Texas in the Palacios neighborhood.  Homes ranged from 1.2 million to 3 million.
This being the FIRST ever Green parade of Homes San Antonio has ever had there were many vendors on hand to assist with questions on how you can "go green".  The biggest benefit of going green (besides the earth & your health) is the savings it provides your pocket as you can save tons on your utility bill & overall home … (0 comments)

I am woman...Hear me ROAR... - 09/03/08 08:25 PM
GRRRRRRRR.  I got completely pumped when I received an email today about women voting or shall I say not voting?
History is being made here ladies (chicas, women, girls, sisters)...let's make sure we are part of it! >
Remember?  If you will...it wasn't until 1920 that women were "given" the right to vote.
Women before us picketed the white house and were JAILED for carrying signs asking for the right to VOTE!
This started the infamous "night of terror" November 15, 1917 where 33 women stayed in prison without water because they DARED to picket Woodrow Wilson's White House for the right … (14 comments)
