Forever Marilyn Palm Springs Summer Events

Forever Marilyn is a 34,300 pound, 26-ft. tall likeness of Marilyn Monroe- posing in her "Some Like it Hot" iconic swirling skirt.  She has been photographed by thousands, and was named the best photo-op in the city this year!  Marilyn truly is photogenic, especially with the backdrop of the Palm Springs San Jacinto mountains.  

Each time I make the drive to Palm Springs from La Quinta (about 45 min.), I snap some more photos of the posing Marilyn.  She never disappoints!  I have even created note-cards with her likeness and my friends love them!

Marilyn was slated to leave Palm Springs on June 1st- and a party was being organized to say goodbye.  But plans have changed and she will remain on the corner of Tahquitz and Palm Canyon until the end of the summer.  

At the sculpture site, more events will be planned this summer in addition to those already scheduled for May, according to P.S. Resorts.

The Forever Marilyn Outdoor Movie Series showed her films "Pretty Little Doggie" and "Monkey Business" on May 3rd and will show "Yours Truly" and the noir classic "Niagra" on May 17th.

In celebration and anticipation of ShortFest, the annual festival of short films in Palm Springs to be held June 18-24, a special selection of shorts will be shown outdoors at Forever Marilyn. Films to be announced ShortFest film screenings on June 7th.  All movies begin at 8:30pm.

Amgen Tour of California visits Marilyn — May 13th.  The famed California professional cyclists race will make a swing through the desert, before heading up the Tram Road to finish this leg of the race at the Valley Station of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. There will be plenty of spots to catch the race which is expected to swing through downtown Palm Springs some time between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Other locations to catch the race include the Shops on El Paseo, Gardens on El Paseo and The River at Rancho Mirage.

Marilyn Monroe's birthday celebrations — she would have been 86 on June 1 — will take place on that date from 6 to 9:30 p.m. with an Elton John tribute performer and birthday cake. All events are free!
