Moving on UP the AR ladder! - 03/31/09 08:51 AM
I just noticed that I am now NUMBER 12 in Delaware! YEA! Have to keep on blogging and posting more about how much Delaware has to offer. And, I should know. Before I moved to Delaware in 2000, I tried almost all parts of the country in my previous lives and careers.
I was born in New York, raised in New Jersey and then moved back to New York City after high school. From there, I was transferred and lived in -
Los Angeles, CA Kansas City, Missouri New York City (again) DC Metropolitan Area - Northern Virginia Providence, RI Portland, … (2 comments)

Joe Biden's Delaware! - 03/26/09 10:46 AM
My morning began today at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting. It's a great way to network with other local business people and newcomers to Lewes. Our guest speaker this morning was Julie Wheatley, the new Director of the Sussex County Economic Development office and she shared some interesting statistics with us about Lewes:
The average age in Lewes, Delaware is 53! 30% of Lewes residents are over the age of 65! She also referenced a quote from Joe Biden -
"On the northern end of Delaware's beaches, Lewes, for example, is an historic town centered around boating with a … (0 comments)

Feels like a CONSTANT CLASS REUNION - New Jersey calling! - 03/20/09 01:34 PM
I am getting so many calls and emails from New Jersey people lately, it feels like a -

CLASS REUNION!
You see, I grew up in Northern New Jersey - in Pompton Plains, went to DePaul High School (date blocked intentionally!) in Wayne, NJ, and then moved to New York City. Between then and today, I've lived in many parts of the country, but I always end up back in the Mid-Atlantic area. Today I live in Milton, Delaware, and my office is in Lewes. Lately I am spending more time with New Jersey folks than I have in many years … (2 comments)

Cheerful Crocuses and Pansies welcome Spring in Milton! - 03/20/09 09:37 AM
I just had to share these signs of Spring with my friends here on Active Rain. The temperatures are still a little nippy, but the signs of warmer days to come are here in bright yellow!

On my way to the office every morning, I pass this well kept property with its beautiful seasonal flowers and White Birch. I always mean to plant bulbs ... Oh well!

Pansies on the Porch are a cheerful way to welcome Spring!

Have a wonderful Spring Day!

I'M IRISH AND WE'VE ALWAYS BEEN GREEN! - 03/12/09 05:29 PM
The SECOND ANNUAL ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE takes place this Sunday in Milton, Delaware.

When I found this button on Green ClipArt, it hit home! My husband Bill is mostly Irish. I am half-Irish; it is Kathleen on St. Patrick's Day. AND, we are very green.
In addition to our real estate business, Bill and I also own a remodeling company called Gotcha Covered. Bill is absolutely committed to NO WASTE on our job sites.
EXTRA SIDING OR FLOORING? It goes into the shed or back to the vendor.
APPLIANCES BEING REPLACED? Into our shed for use in a rental, a … (2 comments)

DINE WITH THE FARMERS ON FRIDAY THE 13TH! - 03/11/09 07:22 AM
HISTORIC LEWES FARMERS MARKET has expanded the season for 2009. The new dates are May 30 through October 10. I'm already dreaming of heirloom tomatoes and sweet corn, fresh picked peaches and mushrooms. The Farmer's Market is open every Saturday during the season and it's my first stop of the day. Lucky for me, our RE/MAX office is just down the street from the market!

SUPPORT THE MARKET - The good folk at Fish On Restaurant in the Villages of Five Points in Lewes are putting together a special "Farm to Table" dinner on Friday, March 13, from 5pm to … (0 comments)

Surprise! The fees your Buyers didn't expect. - 03/04/09 06:12 PM
FEES can add up in a new home community and make for unhappy homeowners. It can be like pulling teeth to get a complete accounting of all fees and expenses when your clients are among the first buyers, but a recent experience tells me it's worth the effort.
When I have buyers that are looking at a new home community, I always make sure they knew about any capital contribution, homeowners dues and all other common types of expenses. I practically badger the Community Sales Manager to provide all the information my client has a right to expect. When it comes to … (4 comments)

Resales or New Construction - Which is the better buy? - 03/01/09 02:22 PM
The best buy has to be new construction, right? After all, the builder is probably offering free upgrades and help with financing. According to media reports, builders have unsold inventory and will do whatever it takes to get a sale. MAYBE! In some parts of the country, that may well be true, but not all. In Coastal Delaware, for example, that inventory sold in 2008 and builders are no longer building to inventory.
Sellers of existing homes are more motivated, aren't they? MAYBE! Not every seller is on the verge of foreclosure. Sellers will have to consider any offer. Not necessarily, but most will at least counter … (2 comments)

SPANISH BRASS PLAY FIRST CONCERT IN LEWES, DELAWARE TO PACKED HOUSE! - 03/01/09 06:58 AM
When Carlos Beneto Grau took the microphone last night, he opened by telling the crowd -
We are beginning our US tour tonight by playing our first concert in the first town in the first state!

Even though the weather had turned cold during the afternoon and rain and sleet was in the forecast - very unusual for Lewes - the hall filled up quickly before the music began. The Spanish Brass concert was the 4th in the 2009/09 series of Coastal Concerts in this 10th Anniversary season. The program went from J.S. Bach to Duke Ellington with a little … (0 comments)
