Coming from an architecture background, there is often a debate on the terms "modern" versus "contemporary". "Modern", as I would interpret it, is an innovative design concept which marks a period relevant of our time.
 
You may or may not agree that:
Classic modern design will be associated with the period in the mid-20th century. Progressive modern will be associated with a home which embodies the future. A contemporary home could mean a decor which is newer and not traditional. A modern floor plan would appeal to modern living with simple uncomplicated forms, clean lines, open plan and natural light.
