IS75         Finding:     Metal louvered vents have been installed on some or all foundation vents that reduce air flow and create excessive moisture in the crawl space.

Recommendation:     Remove louvered vents and rescreen vent openings (see diagram) with ¼ inch mesh galvanized hardware cloth.  Install framing around exterior of opening to leave a neat and clean border.

This comment has a tendency to make some people involved in a transaction upset as louvered vents were once a normal application on a home.

However, in some places in the Country, such as the NW, it is very important to have good air flow in a crawl space and louvered vents do not allow good air flow.

As such, it is recommended that louvered vents be replaced by vent material that allows for better air flow in the substructural crawl space.
