I have reprinted this post from by blog. As real estate agents we throw around the term Multiple Listing Service or MLS like we expect everyone to know what it means. Home buyers and home sellers will say they no what it is but do they truly understand the impact that it has in their home purchase or home sale?

multiple listing service: Home Sellers, Show Your Home!! - 08/16/11 10:49 AM

It seems silly I have to say this, yet it happens all the time!! Clients find a home they would like to view and the sellers do not accomodate showings. You cannot sell your home if you do not allow home buyers to view it.
I recently had a client, there house was underagreement, they were ready to close in 45 days. My clients were out to buy a house!! We looked at 32 houses and about 5 houses they were interested in, we did not gain entry into. Agents did not call us back, sellers said time was inconvenient, sellers … (1 comments)

I have only been in real estate for about 10 years. Our local Multiple Listing Service here in Massachusetts, in that time has been privately held. My question to the real estate community is.... How have we allowed a company like Trulia or any number of "lead generation" companies take our listings and sell leads back to us? I am not just picking on Trulia there are 100's of phone calls I get a month from companies wanting to sell me leads. Trulia was just the last company that called.
