Sales up after struggles of ’08

Despite a downward trend in home sales for 2008, sales did pick up in December in Northern Colorado, a local real estate leader says. Real estate companies reported an increase last month in the number of contracts they handled, Chuck McNeal of The Group Inc. said in an interview Friday.
The Group had more contracts in December 2008 than in December 2007, said McNeal, chief executive officer and chairman of The Group, which has six offices in Northern Colorado.

South College Avenue will have another empty big-box store in its inventory when the Circuit City Store at 4414 S. College Ave., closes amid a corporate bankruptcy.
Circuit City Stores Inc., the nation's second-biggest consumer electronics retailer, on Friday announced it had run out of options and would liquidate its 567 U.S. stores.
The closures could send an additional 30,000 people into the ranks of the unemployed, including about 50 in Fort Collins.
