We may have close to a foot of snow on the ground, but believe it or not, Spring is on it's way!
The Auburn Public Library will host it's 3rd Annual Farmers Market this Friday (March 2nd) from 4:30 to 6:30pm.  At the market you can not only pick up some great local food and products, you can also sign up for and get more information on CSA's (community supported agriculture) offered by local farms.

If you haven't yet enjoyed the full length of the Auburn and Lewiston Riverwalk, here is your chance to make a day of it, stroll along the scenic Riverwalk and help out a great cause at the same time.

Great Falls Balloon Festival 2010 August 20 – 22!
Yes, it is that time again. Lewiston and Auburn Maine will host the annual Great Falls Balloon Festival for all to enjoy. This is a special time for our area when our breathtaking views of the hills and river have the added decoration of scores of beautiful hot air balloons. On occasion a few residents have been able to entice the balloon crews to land in their yards where they produce the traditional bottle of champagne!

The Auburn Maine Police Department will again be hosting the popular National Night Out Event this Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Festival Plaza on Main Street in downtown Auburn.
 
This crime and drug prevention event has become extremely popular with Auburn residents and offers free fun and entertainment for the whole family.

The Auburn Public Library, located near downtown Auburn Maine, is truly the center of the community.  The library consistently offers not only a great selection of books, videos, DVDs, and periodicals, but also a jam packed schedule of events and activities for all ages.
I just heard about this great program that is actually in it's third year and wanted to share it as just one more example of the wonderful "goings on" of the Auburn Public Library.

Never Fear!  The economy can't keep Mainers down! Yes, the 14th annual Liberty Festival is on this year in Lewiston/Auburn Maine.  Fireworks and all! Sunday, June 27th, Museum L-A invites you to the historic Camden Yarns Mill in the Simard-Payne Park in Lewiston, ME to experience this breathtaking course in the inaugural LADU. This 3-mile-run, 14-mile-bike and 3-mile-finish will race past historic millscapes, scenic paths and the mightiest river in Maine to benefit the preservation and celebration of L-A's rich heritage through Museum L-A.
Tri-Maine will be involved with this chip-timed duathlon which is expected to be the largest in Maine. Participation is capped at 500.

The public hearing for the 2010 Comprehensive Plan update for Auburn Maine is scheduled for Thursday, May 6, 2010.
The new draft of the Auburn Comprehensive Plan will be presented at the hearing which is take place in the City Council chambers at Auburn Hall at 60 Court Street and will begin at 6:00pm.
City leaders have made the plan available at the Planning and Permitting office in city hall as well as online in both a pdf docment and a viewable presentation.  Public inspection of the plan and input is always encouraged by the city.

The Auburn Public Library will hold it's much celebrated and popular annual book sale Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 8:30am to 3:00PM. 
You don't want to miss this once a year event!  Many books and materials are just 50 cents - $1.  Towards the end of the sale you can get a whole bag of books for just $5!
Join your friends and neighbors.  I know I'll be there bright and early.  The library is located at 49 Spring Street in Auburn.  There is additional parking across the railroad tracks just off Library Street.
