maine: A Quiet Day In Maine - 03/30/13 11:28 PM
Yesterday's hustle and bustle as Spring weather makes an appearance here in Maine, has given way to a calm and quiet day.  Most businesses are closed allowing time with family and friends.  The skies are sunny and the sea is calm and we sit back and reflect on how fortunate we are to be a part of it all.

maine: Taking Snow And Snowe For Granted In Maine - 03/02/12 12:17 AM
For a long time, Mainers have always counted on 2 things, snow and Snowe.  What an interesting year this has turned out to be.
Our snow deficit was helped somewhat yesterday with a Noreaster that blew through and finally gave us a measurable amount of snow.  This is good or bad depending on your perspective.
Then this week, we received the announcement that our long standing Senator, Olympia Snowe would not seek re-election.  This was definitely a surprise to almost everyone and has both political parties scrambling for candidates.
Her statements regarding her decision seem to mirror the current activities here … (2 comments)

maine: Mystery Solved! Why The Maine Chicken Crossed The Road - 01/18/12 12:38 PM
Yes, the most interesting story on the local news here in Central Maine was about a celebriity chicken!
With low crime rates, low stress, and a great sense of fun, our local news doesn't have that much tragedy to report.  I just had to share this fun story about LC (short for Last Chicken) who has become a constant figure down the road in New Gloucester Maine.
Click on the photo below to view the news story, and give me a call if you'd like to live in a place that has nothing more earth shattering to report on the news … (7 comments)

maine: We're Having A Heatwave! - 11/30/11 03:27 AM
Mainers woke up to the very strange news that Bangor Maine had the highest temperature in the lower 48 this morning.  In fact, it seems that this November may have been the warmest on record for us.
Not earth shattering news, just an odd feeling for us up here.  In Auburn Maine today, the sun has made an appearance and we woke up to 54 degrees and the last remnants of our 14 inches of snow melted away.  We're not complaining.  I must admit it has been nice to have a bit more time to prepare for winter.
One side benefit … (11 comments)

maine: Runaround Pond Durham Maine: A Little Slice of Heaven - 10/03/10 09:00 AM
I had some time to putter around between showings today, so I decided to get lost accidentally on purpose in Durham Maine.  As I poked along Rabbit Road, I happened upon a small empty park labeled "Runaround Pond Recreation Area."  A tranquil little spot with a few picnic tables alongside Durham's Runaround pond.  All alone on this sunny and crisp fall day, I simply sat down on a large expanse of rock and soaked in the atmosphere while listening to the birds and critters.

maine: You Can't Get There From Here! Lost in Maine...not such a bad thing. - 10/02/10 11:14 AM
You can't get there from here !  GPS & directions, for those "from away."
When you come to visit our great state, there may come a time when you are uncertain of where you are or if you are headed in the right direction.  Although a case could be made that ANY direction within the state IS the right direction, here are a few pointers for finding your way around Maine.
I know that those handy GPS systems are all the rage, and they can still be useful, but here in Maine you will need a back up system.  I'm not sure … (50 comments)

maine: Maine Wildlife Park: Wild Fun For the Family in Gray Maine - 09/27/10 10:24 AM
If you have not yet been (or even if you have,) I would highly recommend taking a trip to the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray Maine.  I went this past Saturday with my mother and my 7 year old son.

What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday, have fun, and learn about Maine's wildlife all at the same time.  The park is large enough to be able to spend several hours walking around the various paths and displays, but yet small enough that you won't be exhausted at the end of your visit.  There is even a picnic area and … (18 comments)

maine: Do You Live Your Dreams? ...Why not? - 07/09/10 04:31 AM
Do you live where you always wanted to be?  Do you go on vacation to a favorite spot and think to yourself "I wish I could just live here!"  Why not?
Maybe it is the "grass is always greener" syndrome, but maybe...just maybe it is a resistance to change or a needed change in outlook.
When I was younger, I loved camping.  We would go to the mountains or the coast and I just felt at peace with the world.  I am also drawn to farms and fields and back road places.  As a young adult, traveling became harder for me … (7 comments)

maine: Sunshine Prevails in Maine! - 01/16/08 06:40 AM
OK, so we did get about 17 inches or so of snow Monday, but the sun is shining today and the plows have been busy keeping up their wicked awesome reputation of keeping our roads clear.  It is a good day in Maine!  We are enjoying the sun here and the relatively mild temperature of slightly above freezing.  I'm told we'll be hunkering down in the single and negative numbers soon for a little while.
There may be some folks who just wouldn't want to deal with the snow and cold, but winters are rather short here and come all at … (3 comments)
