  Industry Trends:

Demand for Vacation Property Remains Strong

"Although the overall real estate market has experienced a slump over the past 12-18 months, reports show that the demand for vacation homes has remained strong. The AP released a report at the end of April showing that the vacation home sales rose by 4.7% in 2006. The total number of vacation homes purchased in 2006 totaled 14% of the total market for new and existing homes, up from 12% in 2005.  The National Association of Realtors released a report at the end of April showing that vacation home sales rose by 4.7% in 2006. The total number of vacation homes purchased in 2006 totaled 14% of the total market for new and existing homes, up from 12% in 2005. According to David Lereah, a chief economist for NAR, the demographics favor vacation-home sales because large numbers of consumers are in the prime buying ages. Buyers want recreational property for personal use-investment is a secondary consideration." -NACHO

Orlando Sentinel - February 7, 2005
Orlando came off fairly well in a recent Brookings Institution report that took issue with all of the convention-center expansion going on across the country. And the report's author, Haywood Sanders, a university professor in Texas, has had more good things to say about Orlando since the big study came out. Sanders told Tradeshow Week magazine that Orlando "is really quite promising" now that it has doubled the Orange County Convention Center's exhibit space to more than 2 million square feet. He said Orlando and Las Vegas are clearly the two national powers now, with "revenue bases that year in and year out will generate so much money that they can out-market, out-advertise and out-build almost anyone else."
