One Ringy Dingy…
It’s taken me a few seasons, but I just started watching Grace and Frankie starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin (love them both!) It’s on Netflix and if you get a chance take a peek at it.
At any rate, I’m hooked on it. But watching them made me think of one of my favorite character of hers...Ernestine aka “one ringy dingy…”
Which then got me to thinking about this month’s Reaching Out...An ActiveRain Challenge that I’m hosting.
(Like my segway?)
At any rate, you have two weeks left to participate, if you wish.
Call up to 3 ActiveRain members.

activerain contests: Referrals Matter... - 03/12/18 02:06 PM
Referrals Matter…
Debbie Reynolds has asked us to talk about referrals in the Referrals Matter-March ActiveRain Contest. I have a bit of a different take since I’m not an agent.

However, I have referred friends and relatives to agents many times.

Just as an agent, I need to know that my referral will be taken care of in a professional manner.

The first place I search is ActiveRain.  Having been on this site for 10 years, I have in my referral file in my brain many names.

How do those names get there?

You see, just because a member has been blogging for years … (24 comments)

A Gentle Reminder...Pick Up the Phone!

You’d be surprised at the relationships you can make just by picking up the phone.

Many years ago there was a member here who scared me to death. I thought she hated all stagers.

Well, one day I emailed her about something (not related to was a copyright question) and within 10 minutes my phone rang and she was on the phone!

From that conversation sprang many more. I truly miss reading her posts and speaking with her.

And then there’s someone ( Sheri Sperry - MCNE®)  I called just last year and discovered that we had … (22 comments)

Reaching Out-An ActiveRain March Challenge

Ask most anyone here and the next best thing to actually meeting another member here is to get to know them via a phone call.

In fact, I remember vividly the first time Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland called me out of the blue. Ask many here and they too have received that legendary call from her.

And why not???
We follow members here because we like what they write...we see them almost every day. For many, we know the names of their spouses, their favorite color, and the number and names of their grandchildren.

So...why not pick up the … (88 comments)

Love Means Giving to Those in Need
This was a staging where I met the client only once and we probably exchanged fewer than 200 words.

Stepping into the “way back” machine once again, this was when the market and economy were in the tank.
I’d met a wonderful agent through the Women’s Council of Realtors who began handling a lot of short sales. She learned everything she could about them and as a consequence began to get many referrals.

She called me one day and asked if I would be interested in helping someone and donating my services. She went on to … (25 comments)

Sometimes You Have to Break the Rules

The expression “rules are meant to be broken” never made much sense to me. My modus operandi has never been to go out and break a rule.
However, I’m a big proponent of using common sense when I can in my approach to life. And sometimes at the intersection of common sense and rules, guess which one wins?

Years ago I was providing a staging consultation for a client who was moving to New York to live with her son. It was time.

Her husband had passed away just a few months before and her children … (31 comments)

My First Consultation in Florida…

When we moved back to Florida in 2007, the housing market was sliding downhill.  In case you erased it from your memory, sellers couldn’t sell, buyers needed cash, and the last thing anyone wanted to do was even consider staging. In fact, when I mentioned it, most people including agents didn’t know what it was.

As luck would have it, I’d met an agent who was interested in what home staging could do. She had a client and had not been able to sell his condo even though she had reduced the price well below any condo … (26 comments)

Please Meet My Friend...James Dray. I Dialed and He Smiled!

For the life of me, I cannot remember when I began seeing his smiling face commenting on my posts. And, I would be lying if I said that it wouldn’t bother me if he decided not to hang out in the Rain anymore.

When as part of Lynn Friedman’s January Jumpstart Challenge we were asked to profile a member, I didn’t have to think twice.
Everyday James Dray shares information about someone who has impacted our lives in some way. Many of these people deserve so much more recognition than they’ve previously received.

James … (21 comments)

Making 2018 the Best Year Yet...or At Least Trying

Debbie Reynolds is hosting a challenge asking us to write about 3 goals (personal or professional) we have for the year. Why we have them and how we intend on reaching them.
At this point in my life, my goals tend towards personal ones... Making sure that I continue to live the kind of life I’ve been living and enjoying it as well.
My 3 goals are extremely simple ones, and perhaps that is by design. Hopefully, the simplicity will ensure that I am not overwhelmed by them.
1. Getting back in (regular) contact … (29 comments)

activerain contests: Weltanschauung-It Is Who We Are And What We Made - 01/10/18 04:50 PM
...And Continue to Make

If you are wondering why you’re seeing all of these posts about Community Guidelines and Weltanschauung, it’s because Lynn B. Friedman is once again hosting her annual Blog Jumpstart Challenge.
Pronunciation aside, Weltanschauung sets forth a blueprint for what this community is about and what it hoped to become.

Organizations, corporations, even countries have some kind of “Who We Are” or “What We Stand For” section on their website or in their charter.
As I was reading the many posts here about Weltanschauung and rereading Weltanschauung again, the last section struck me. We and that is the collective you and … (22 comments)

Community Guidelines...They Really Are Important.
If it’s January here in ActiveRain, then Lynn Friedman’s Blog Jumpstart Challenge must be on! Now lest you think that this is strictly an exercise in point gathering or have a disdain for ActiveRain Challenges or Contests in general, I would encourage you to look again at the different qualifiers.

They are designed to have us do things that will help our business or function better here in the community.

As to the Community Guidelines, it’s very much like the HOA of a neighborhood. If you want to get along with others in the community, it’s always … (41 comments)

A December Challenge-Share a Favorite Holiday Memory With Us!
Let’s face it, one of the things we love about ActiveRain is getting to know more about our members...whether it’s what they’re grateful for or what they like (or don’t like) about their profession.
So the December challenge is to share with us a favorite memory, or gift, or unusual challenge you have from previous holidays.
For example, one of my fondest holiday memories is our first Christmas in Florida. I couldn’t imagine what Christmas was going to be like with so many palm trees, 80+ degree weather and lots of pink houses … (147 comments)

Paying It Forward From the Heart…
Belinda Spillman's Annual Pay It Forward Challenge is one of those that is hard for many because we don’t like to talk about us in that manner.
This is such a giving to each other here and to our “in-real-life neighbors.”
And yet, we still find it difficult to talk about what we do to pay it help others.

All of this is a way of saying I’m somewhat late to the party on this because I’m one of those people.
Larry and I try to give our support whenever we see a need. One of … (18 comments)

Thankfulness- It Takes a Lot of Thought to Be Thoughtful
Some ActiveRain contests and Challenges come easily to me. Debbie Reynolds’ 12 Days of Thanksgiving Challenge was one that was easy and rewarding to do.

But I had to think long and hard for Jim Cheney’s Thankfulness Challenge. I didn’t know what focus or approach to take.

So I decided to focus on how I show my gratitude to my friends.
Years ago while attending a “rah-rah” sales motivational class, the speaker said something that stuck with me. It was so simple but at the same time, wasn’t.
It takes a lot … (11 comments)

activerain contests: My Thanksgiving Day Appreciation for All Life - 11/22/17 02:28 PM
My Thanksgiving Day Appreciation for All Life
As self-absorbed as it may sound, on this Day of Giving Thanks, I am extremely thankful for my life.
Well, it’s not just my life, but All life, from the smallest nanobe up to the Big Blue Whale...I appreciate every form of it.

Every form of life is may not be like ours but it is their life. This occurred to me when I was watching Mom Gator help her eggs hatch. At that point, she wasn’t an alligator that I needed to fear. She was instead, a mother trying to save her baby … (26 comments)

Thankful for Our Road Trips
Larry and I just returned from another one of our road trips and this very topic came up. We are so thankful that we both love taking these road trips together.
When we were both doing the 5 day-a-week grind, we flew to make the most of the time we had off.

However now that our time is our own, we prefer to drive when we can.
It isn’t that we have a fear of flying. Larry isn’t crazy about flying unless he’s the pilot and both of us hate the hassle of airports.
Another reason we like road trips … (35 comments)

Thankful I Can Be Thankful

Having spent this past week with my family in Houston, two thoughts occurred to me - (1)there is so much in my life I am thankful for and (2)I am grateful I recognize this.
With each marriage and birth, our family keeps growing and blending into a rich sauce full of many different ingredients.
However, of more importance is the fact that I have in my makeup the ability to appreciate and recognize all that I have.
My Uncle Charlie explained the concept of optimism vs pessimism with the "glass have full" story to me when I was just a … (28 comments)

Thankful For the Beach
From the moment we moved to Delray Beach 30 years ago I was in love with the beach. It wasn’t my first experience with the beach since I am from Houston and we went to the beach often when I was growing up.
However, there are the Texas beaches, and then there are FLORIDA beaches!
The beach is my source of energy before I start the day. It is ever changing-like a lake on some days and rough and choppy on others.
You never know who or what you’ll see.
I’ve been told the sea and sands on … (33 comments)

Thankful for the Two Brittanys in My Life

When Larry told me we were driving to Mexia, TX to buy a Brittany Spaniel, I had visions of the cute spaniel in Lady and the Tramp. Man, was I wrong! I had an image of a Cocker Spaniel in my head.

Instead, we got a partially trained, extremely hyperactive hunting dog. She loved to go bird hunting with Larry and was happy as a clam to come home all wet and covered in burrs.
Lady Marie managed to chew up 2 antique pistol grips, a hot tub cover, and bring a dead armadillo into our … (24 comments)

Eternally Grateful My Grandparents Made the Leap
When I was a child most of my thoughts were of play, the beach, and food. I didn’t spend my hours in deep thought. However, I do remember being ever so grateful that both sets of grandparents somehow made the leap to come to this country.
From the stories my grandmother told, she was just a child living with relatives in China when she made the trip here. Her parents had died at sea. One day friends of her relatives said they were coming to the United States and they could bring one other person. And … (12 comments)
