Delray Beach...March Madness

The madness that is March is upon us, and my brackets (all 4 of them) are collapsing as I write this.
It is fun though and it’s a lot easier to check your brackets since computers took over the sheets.
A leader is someone who puts their people in position to be successful all the time   Mike Krzyzewski
In years past, you had to sit there with your bracket(s) in front of you and in your own manner, check your teams that won and also mark who lost.
Now, all you have to do is open your bracket (I use CBS … (22 comments)

Delray Beach...Not Since Sandy
What a week in Delray!  We’ve not had waves like this since Sandy back in 2012. You’ll get no complaints from us since we still had warmer temps than our neighbors to the north were enduring.
Like as the waves make towards the pebbl'd shore, so do our minutes, hasten to their end. William Shakespeare

You could barely find a parking space even in the early morning hours!  The surfer network was sending out calls to all surfers...Surf’s up!

Delray Beach...Conversations
The second set of houseguests has left and we have a break until the next set arrives. For me, the favorite parts of the visits have been the morning chats over coffee, our afternoons catching up over ice cream at Kilwin’s on Atlantic Avenue, and then after dinner conversations on the patio.
A single conversation across the table with a wise man is better than ten years mere study of books. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Which leads me to a gentle reminder about the Reaching Out...An ActiveRain Challenge that I am hosting this month. If you don’t know about it, all you … (37 comments)

Delray Beach...Friends
Our friends finally retired from their business and took a long-awaited road trip to Florida. It was the first time they’ve visited us here in ages. We do get to see them every year when we make our annual road trip to Kansas, Omaha, and Houston.
My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me. Henry Ford
We had so much fun showing them Delray Beach and even more fun just catching up.
We went to one of the inlets and had fun watching the pelicans, and of course, ate way too much food.

Delray Beach...An Unthinkable Week

The weather was beautiful in Delray this week but after Wednesday’s horrific shooting in which 17 beautiful hearts were silenced, the rest of the week turned grey.

Delray Beach- Happy Valentine’s Day Week!
Valentine’s Day is Wednesday so if you haven’t made dinner reservations, ordered flowers, purchased some darn good chocolates, or visited my favorite jewelry store with the very recognizable blue boxes, then you’d better hurry.

Of course, you could still write a good poem if that’s in your repertoire.
All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt. Charles M. Schulz

Delray Beach- Super Bowl Weekend

If you have read any of my posts then you may be aware that I absolutely love and pro. This weekend has mixed emotions for me. While it is the day that every football fan has waited for, it also signals the end of the football season.

Delray Beach...Winners
This week while we were watching Larry’s Kansas Jayhawks lose a game they should have won, I began to think about winning.
You learn more from losing than winning. You learn how to keep going. Morgan Wootten
I’m more of a football fan but college basketball is fun, especially when March comes around.
The Jayhawks have a way of playing well in the first half and then coming out after the half as a different team, either that or they come out thinking they already have the game won.
Show class, have pride, and display character. If you do, winning takes … (30 comments)

Delray Beach...Old Friends and New Ones

Elyse Berman, PA, CRS  and I caught up this week for a quick lunch and a cute tearoom in Delray Beach. The lady who started it owns the wallpaper store that adjoins it. Old School Square in Delray Beach-The Center Of This All America City
Almost all cities and towns have a center. It is a it a city block, a corner, or an area that extends many blocks...where residents gather to disseminate local information, hold meetings, and celebrate events.
Old School Square in Delray Beach is just that.

Actually, Old School Square is not just one building but several...Crest Theatre, Cornell Art Museum, The Creative Arts School, The Pavilion, and The Fieldhouse.

Delray Beach...Beginnings
We managed to make it through the first week of the New Year! The beginning of a new year always seems like a fresh start.

Joy in looking and comprehending is nature's most beautiful gift. Albert Einstein
We also have our wonderful friends coming in for a too-short visit, so very excited about that. Actually, as I’m writing this, they are on their way up A1A from having visited Key West. But when you read this, they will have already arrived. Confusing, I know.

Why is it that the holidays, even though you know that they’re coming, and do so at the same time every year, still manage to find you scrambling to get things done in time?

Highlights from the Delray Beach Christmas Parade-2017
One of the many things that we love about living in Delray Beach is going to the parades. Yes, they're bigger in New York but there’s nothing quite like going to a hometown parade.
Delray Beach had their annual Christmas parade Saturday night and even with cooler temperatures (OK...low 60’s and breezy) we still enjoyed it.
At one time, I remember the parades taking place in the afternoons but for several years now the parades have been at night.

Our viewing has transitioned from going just to have fun and another excuse for adult reverie to … (28 comments)

Delray Beach...Giving
‘Tis the season and the crunch is on for buying, wrapping, baking and preparing for the next year.

It is the season to open our hearts and give to others...and that includes people we don’t even know.
For it is in giving that we receive. Francis of Assisi

Delray Beach...Change
There is so much change going on in all our lives. Delray Beach has a new tree (still 100 feet high) in a somewhat new location.
New businesses are coming to town, and others have left.
It’s not that I don’t like change. But I prefer it when I am the one making the change, not the one having to adjust to it.

Delray Beach-It’s All About Friends and Family.
Just in case it has escaped anyone, we are deep into the season of giving, being kind to each other and spending an inordinate amount of time with our friends and family. And, I for one, love every minute of it.

Thankful For the Beach
From the moment we moved to Delray Beach 30 years ago I was in love with the beach. It wasn’t my first experience with the beach since I am from Houston and we went to the beach often when I was growing up.
However, there are the Texas beaches, and then there are FLORIDA beaches!
The beach is my source of energy before I start the day. It is ever changing-like a lake on some days and rough and choppy on others.
