National Ice Cream Cone Day - September 22-Here’s Where to Go in DelrayWhile you never need a reason to eat ice cream, September 22 is National Ice Cream Cone Day.   There is some disagreement as to who really invented the ice cream cone, however September 22 is when Italo Marchiony filed a patent for a “molding apparatus for forming ice cream cups and the like.”
As a kid, and actually to this day when I think of summer I think of ice cream cones.  Walking down a sidewalk, eating an ice cream cone just seems the thing to do in the … (31 comments)

La Fiesta Cafe in Delray Beach-Fresh and Approved by This Texan!Since moving to Delray Beach FL from Texas over 25 years ago I have been on a quest to find  good Mexican food.  La Fiesta Cafe on US1 in Delray Beach is just what I’ve been looking for. The Salsa is as fresh as if you made it in your own kitchen and the chips do not taste as if they’ve been sitting in a bag for a week.  Everything they make has a fresh twist added that you won’t find in just any Mexican restaurant.  Try the Tortilla soup but … (25 comments)

TeaLicious Tea Room in Delray BeachAtlantic Avenue in Delray Beach isn’t just about beaches, surf shops and trendy restaurants.   Head west and you can experience a little bit of old world charm at TeaLicious Tea Room.   Owner Maryann Matesic  opened her TeaLicious Tea Room after she was often asked by her customers if there were someplace close where they could get a bite to eat.    You see,  she also owns Maryann’s Wallpaper & Window Boutique.  So now her client’s need go no further than next door, for that is where you can find TeaLicious Tea Room.I’d be willing to bet that … (23 comments)

places to go in delray beach: Atlantic Avenue Restaurants-Delray Beach-Johnnie Brown's - 06/10/12 08:24 PM
Atlantic Avenue Restaurants- Delray Beach-Johnnie Brown’sNo, Johnnie Brown is not the owner of this Delray Beach restaurant,  but rather the name of a  spider monkey owned and paraded about town by Addison Mizner.   Johnnie had not only the honor of sitting on the shoulder of our area’s most recognized architects, he even ran for mayor of Palm Beach.
(I know... one could insert a comment about a monkey running for mayor here but let’s leave it at that.)
While you won’t see any spider monkeys sitting at the bar, Johnnie Brown’s is  the perfect place to stop in for a … (19 comments)

places to go in delray beach: Tom's Place-The Boca BBQ Favorite is Back in Boynton Beach! - 05/13/12 08:29 PM
It’s always nice to find something you thought was lost, and that was the case when we re-discovered Tom’ Place on Boynton Beach Blvd.  Larry and I were out the other day and stopped in to Tom’s Place for some Bar-B-Q.   We weren’t sure if this was related to the Tom’s Place that we knew when we first arrived in Boca back in the late 80’s.

And I gladly report that yes... this is the reincarnate of Tom’s Place originally owned by Tom and Helen Wright.  However it is now run by Tom’s son-in- law and daughter, Gerard and Belinda … (10 comments)

Sandoway House Nature Center in Delray BeachThere are not many nature centers that are housed in a home that is on the National Register of Historic Places but that’s exactly what the Sandoway House Nature Center is.   The structure was built in 1936 and located just across from the Atlantic Ocean  in Delray Beach.  There are shark feedings, nature walks, educational programs, astronomy nights, summer camp and other special events.  Upstairs is a private shell collection that is the largest (10,000 museum quality shells) in Southeast Florida, a Florida Reptile room and another room devoted to historic Delray.   And to … (13 comments)

Periwinkle- Meet the Latest Addition to Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach!

I love the color Periwinkle, so the first time I saw the name above the door a few years ago, I had to park and check it out.   Periwinkle moved just a few weeks ago on Atlantic Avenue taking over the space by one of the Avenue's oldest fixtures.. The Trellis Shop.  When the owner of the Trellis Shop decided to retire and close the store, it was an opportunity for the owner of Periwinkle to move from her smaller shop around the corner.
If you are looking … (17 comments)
