Virginia's Lake Anna State Park is part of a great park system. Year after year the Commonwealth of Virginia has proudly grown and increased its services to the public. Virginia opened six parks simultaneously in 1936 and has increased that number through the years. Even with low budgets, the park staffs have continued to provide exemplary care of the thousand of acres under their stewardship. Update to KIDS TO PARK DAY at LAKE ANNA STATE PARK on May 19, 2012. It promises to be a fun day not only for the kids but for all of the "big kids" that get to accompany them. Here is the timetable of events and you'll see that there is a nice variety. There will be multiple things to do and sights to see. Lake Anna is made up of two parts, the main lake which has pubic access by way of several marinas and Lake Anna State Park and the private side. The private side is made up of three lagoons connected by channels but separated from the main lake by three dikes. Boat traffic cannot pass from one side of the lake to the other. Both sides have their benefits and most people are very happy with the side where their property is located. Both sides are popular. The public is invited to attend a meeting to be held by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation at the Dominion Resource Building at 1022 Haley Drive off Kentucky Springs Road (Rt. 652) Mineral, VA. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss plans for Lake Anna State Park. The management plan for the park is being updated and the public is encouraged to attend this meeting and to offer suggestions.

For those of us within an easy commute of Lake Anna State Park it is wonderful to have the opportunity to visit and take part in a number of activities that are both fun and educational. The Commonwealth of Virginia has a top-rated state park system. Without a doubt it is one of the best in the country. In 2001 the National Sporting Good Association's Sports Foundation Inc. it the ppresented it with their presigious gold medal and state park award as the #1 state park system. However, the budget to support Virginia's state parks ranks low among the 50 states. It is amazing what can be done with the help of volunteers.
