The Famous "Leg Lamp" in Northport Village, NY - 12/31/10 08:04 AM

A holiday trip to my hometown revealed a joyus amusement in town.  Northport Village is an old whaling community with a bustling historic Main Street that empytys onto a wonderous harbor on Long Island's North Shore.  The street is lined with old fashioned buildings which now house modern shops, restaurants and boutiques.
As I drove through town on Christmas night, I was surprised to see the Northport Hardware Company all decked out with holiday splendor, including a display paying homage to the leg lamp from the movie "A Christmas Story".
Turns out, the store now does an "Annual Leg Lamp Lighting", which … (4 comments)

Hartford Ct- Wadsworth Athaneum's Annual Festival of Trees - 12/30/10 08:02 AM

The annual Festival of Trees has occured this year and I thought that I would share it with you all.  It is a festival of holiday celebrations donated by local community members and companies to the Wadsworth Athaneum Museum, which puts is on display for the first two weeks in December.  All items are auctioned off to benefit those in need.  They have trees, wreaths, menorahs, cultural celebrations, art work etc all for viewing.  The Museum also has a kids craft room where young ones can go and create a craft item and get their … (2 comments)

Vermont Inn Tours, A Holiday Getaway! - 12/30/10 06:50 AM

One of my favorite holiday traditions is to visit Vermont for their annual Holiday Inn Tours.  Selected Inn's are tastefully decorated for the holidays and scattered through out Manchester Vermont.  It is a wonderful way to get in the spirit of things and to get away and do a little shopping.
We stayed at the Inn at Manchester, which is a beautiful home owned by Innkeepers Frank and Julie Hanes.  They are a wonderful and accomodating couple who cooked the most delicious Sunday Breakfast ever.  Thanks Inn at Manchester for a lovely time.

Kodak Moment Contest: Vote For Your Favorite - 12/29/10 07:37 AM
I was reading this kodak Moment contest and looked through all the pictures.  Quite a few of them stirred something in me that either broke my heart or made it melt.  A snapshot in time is something that not only captures a moment in time but it also evokes an emotion from the viewer.  When I saw the shot of the girl holding her cat at the vet, it transported me a year back, when I had to make the difficult decision to put my dog down due to illness.  As tears rolled down my cheek, my heart began to ache … (2 comments)

Landlord Helps a Wayward Tenant - 12/20/10 08:19 AM

I have a friend who has a home with a third floor apartment in it.  He lives in an area of my state with lots of transient business where he finds his Tenants.  There is a large military base as well as a large pharmaceutical company that brings in researchers a few months of the time.  He rents to folks with a month to month lease due to their limited time in the state while working at these businesses.
His last Tenant, who only left a few days ago, had found himself on poor times, lost his job and wasn't paying the rent.  The Tenant  … (2 comments)

Are You 'Rosie the Riveter' of Real Estate?????? Women Read! - 12/08/10 09:40 AM
Are you Rosie the Riveter of Real Estate?  Are you a woman out working your Real Estate business?  Taking phone calls, making appointment, showing homes, writing up contracts, educating Buyers and Sellers on the home buying process?  Do you then have to come home to a house full of chores or preparations? Dinner for the family? Shuffling kids to activities? What if you work a SECOND job? Gosh how does it all get done?
Some female Agents out there have a lot to do in addition to running their Real Estate business?  Are you better working outside of the home instead of inside the … (2 comments)

Did They Die in The House? - 12/07/10 07:43 AM
I can't tell you how many homes I have shown that have been owned by elderly individuals that no longer live in the home.  The home is usually in decent shape but nothing has been updated since 1957.  There is nothing wrong with it, it's just how it it.
I have found that Buyers NEED to know if someone has died there.  Personally, I would rather not know, but some Buyers want that info before they proceed with an offer.  Even if they are in love with the house, I think of handful of them would walk if it turns out … (6 comments)

No Sugar for the Holidays!?!?!?!? - 12/05/10 06:59 AM
Give up sugar for the holiday season?  Am I crazy?  Maybe I am crazy, or maybe I just want to stop my sugar cravings by going cold turkey!  This holiday season is known for get togethers, festivities and lots of sugary sweets.  Typically, if there is chocolate perched out there for consumption, I have been known to take a taste or heck, the whole thing.  Reducing my sugar intake is a personal challenge that I have chosen to embark on during this season.  The testing of will power is at stake here and I hope I can make it through the … (3 comments)
