dear diary: Shirley You Jest! - 08/26/11 12:06 AM
Shirley You Jest! Okay, so I opened my AR page today and I had a contact through ActiveRain from Shirley Knoblett Abraham, my long lost cousin. Shirley wasn't really lost but we lost touch with each other about, well 40 years ago. Seems like yesterday. Shirley had gone to our Knoblett Tree on Google and found the Obituary I wrote and posted for my Mother, her Aunt. Now, Shirley found my name on the Obituary and Googled my name and guess what came up? Good ole' ActiveRain! And, Deb Brooks. Awww, the miracles of the Internet! Just a quick note to

dear diary: Words of the Wildflowers... - 06/13/09 11:30 PM
The wildflowers give hope... They are blowing in the wind and dropping the seed of the future. They provide beauty and substance to our landscapes and are the sign of spring and a new beginning. Our wildflowers are an inspiration that we should follow. They are a constant and show us that even adversity, lack of nourishment and storms cannot stop them from blooming and becoming the best they can be. They give us strength, hope and a promise of more to come. Let's have the outlook of the flowers. Be strong, positive, a fighter and guarantee that you will survive!

dear diary: What if? - 06/13/09 11:04 PM
What if............ you didn't have to work? What if........... you had all the money you needed or wanted? what if........... you didn't have to worry about paying your bills?... would you still be working Real Estate? Do you love it? Do you love the people? Do you love the satisfaction of helping a person find their home? If you can honestly answer these questions with..."I would want to sell Real Estate....", you are in the right business my friends...ask yourself this. If the answer is no, then go look for another job or profession. This is serious business. Be

dear diary: The Love of a Home. - 06/13/09 10:16 PM
There is no way to dispute that we actually "love" with passion and feelings and commitment and devotedness and need and desire and comfort and "being" the very structure we call........our homes. Yes, we love our homes. Why not? We have a structure that reveals our personalities and preferences... It's a place to rest and feel comfort and security. A place to run naked if we choose. It's our place to close our eyes and re~build for another day. It's a place to extend our arms and emotion to another person or persons. It's a place to rest and repair

dear diary: Greed vs. Common Sense! FSBO'S? Whatchya gonna do? - 06/13/09 09:35 PM
I passed by a beautiful home on the water of Lake Livingston yesterday. It is a home whose homeowners have been discussing "selling" for a couple of years. Now, she told me up front..."I want to sell it myself and I believe I can." Well, I said, I believe you can too. It may take you longer... Are you ready to spend money to advertise?.............................................. Do you know where to advertise?.............................................................. Do you know what the most effective way to reach your buyers is?................. You must be prepared to answer the phone many times a day...................... You must be prepared

dear diary: A Rose By Any Other Name... - 06/13/09 07:44 PM
I'm so glad I have my Active Rain friends and co-workers surrounding me. These times they are a hurtin'. I believe that a rose displays as much beauty on a cloudy day as it does on a sunny day. It is all in how you look at the rose. Of course, there's the famous saying, "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet" and Shakespeare knew his writing. That's about all he knew but hey...we are not all good at everything. I flashed back to one of the stories that meant so many giggles when my mom use

dear diary: Jury Duty Today. - 03/17/09 10:43 PM
I try to do my Civil Duty for my state and country and today I did show up for Jury Duty. I have mistakenly "overlooked" summons before and I then felt guilty. Today, Saint Patrick's Day, I succumbed to being sequestered. Yep, I was there. I learned early in my life that all I have to do is to walk into a court room and I am immediately chosen to serve on the jury. This, I assure you, is not a beneficial trait of a person. I just am a "what do you think? magnet..." yep. People stop me in the

dear diary: I love Lucy, butt... - 03/15/09 12:10 AM
I love Lucy, butt...My cousin Nancy and I were walking the authentic brick streets of Newport Indiana when she was 12 years old and I was three years younger. I was much more 10 than 9. I was very grown up. Newport Indiana had (and still does have) a population of approximately 400. Believe it or not it was the county seat. This was our city. We walked the tree lined brick laid and cobblestone streets enjoying the blue sky's and the lack of any traffic. I am a lucky person. I have actually existed in a town with no-one. Everyone,

dear diary: The Search Is On~ - 03/10/09 03:12 PM
The search is on for a man that visited a client of mine that claimed to be from the Lending institution that is currently placing her homestead into foreclosure. We will call my client Ruby as I must change the names to protect the innocent! Ruby is in dire need of selling her home as she has dropped behind on payments and cannot get a response from her Lender. Ruby's Lender is telling her that they have no control over the loss at this point. They say the wheels are in motion and the only way for her to guarantee

dear diary: NO MORE BUTT CALLS - 02/19/09 12:44 PM
I got a new iPhone for Christmas. It's February 19th now and I'm beginning to figure it out. Evidently there is a commercial on TV that calls random calling of friends and family "BUTT CALLS" based on a person sitting on their phone and making the random calls. I have been told over the last few days that I am guilty of this obscene gesture... The one thing I just couldn't do is figure out how to re-lock my iPhone so I wouldn't be touching random phone numbers for calling. So far my cousin Ruby listened to my conversation with my

dear diary: A (they) R (are) Really Changing! - 02/16/09 06:18 PM
Good grief. I am such a fuddy duddy when it comes to change. I'm the mouse that can't find the cheese if you move it! Boy, was I shocked to see our pictures there. I've been gone all day on Real Estate appointments and missed a lot of the hoopla. Last night I went to comment on someone's blog and there in the glory and her beauty was Debe Maxwell....her shining smile from the comment above. Ugh. I thought, "now, how on earth does she have the time to do that!" although I liked it. Running through my mind was..... Let's

dear diary: Come On Baby, Light Your Fire! - 01/24/09 12:22 AM
Bob Stewart, our very own Social Media Guru, Community Builder and Creative Mind Extraordinaire, suggested to me that I try FIREFOX, a Mozilla browser, instead of my Internet Explorer. Hum...I smiled and said I would but subconsciously my head was shaking back and forth while crossing my arms. Nope, huh uh, no way, not a chance, not me.
I'm a tough egg to crack. From the beginning of time I have been a die-hard Internet Explorer fan. In my mind and my world it ran my entire puter! My VISTA and my IE have been really knocking heads. I couldn't load Active X,

dear diary: You can't read a book by its cover..."Holiday Acceptance" - 12/09/08 07:54 AM
You can't read a book by its cover..."The Joy and Gift of Acceptance" I was 22 years old and working for a large carpeting store in San Antonio Texas behind the desk as a receptionist...not my kind of job but I was young and needed to take what I could get. I was raising two very young children and paying an in-home sitter to watch them. After cashing my weekly check and paying her I had $80.00 a week left for bills and spending money. Woo Hoo! Christmas was right around the corner so I had to have every penny! Without

dear diary: See, I know geek speak... - 11/20/08 05:36 PM
I listened to Rain Radio today on BlogTalkRadio.com! I feel like I'm getting geekier and geekier each day and loving it. I have recently joined the ranks of TWITTER and am a novice with how it all works. So for me, this was valuable listening. It was so much fun hearing my friends voices again such as Rich Jacobson, Brad Andersohn, Ron Chaney, Jeremy Blanton, Kim Wood and a various assortment of Active Rainer guests. Woohaa. I am such a geek now that I subscribed to the RSS, signed in and worked on paperwork while listening to the show. I learned

dear diary: Are you thinking of letting your license go? - 11/19/08 12:11 PM
Is your fear running rampant? The media and their ability to sensationalize the negative is creating a dark cloud over most people. I spoke to a dear friend today who is thinking of letting her license go. Are you thinking of letting your license go? How long did it take you to get it? How much work have you put into your Real Estate Business? Are you going to let the lag in business win? I just don't want to see this happening to good agents. We can listen to the media to the point that we could all curl up

dear diary: We Don't get Paid Till We Close...Of Course I'm Doing My Best! - 10/30/08 08:12 PM
The tide has changed...and I mean drastically! Sales use to wash in and close and then wash out back to the sea of contentedness...and now what's happening? Fanny Mae, Freddie Mac are just not the same entities...they are now the boss. We, as in Real Estate Agents and Brokers and Mortgage Brokers and Surveyor's and Inspectors and Title Companies are all trying to march to a different beat. It's a new beat and the drums are rolling. Learn the facts, gain control and step up to the pump. (no puns about gas prices intended) Remember allll the waaaaayyyyy back to Real

dear diary: I had a ball at Real Estate barcamp Houston yesterday! - 10/24/08 01:34 PM
I had a ball at Real Estate barcamp Houston yesterday! Some functions are fun and some are not! This was just wonderful! I didn't completely understand what to expect with a "Free form forum" but I will say it was great. The presentations were fun and informative. I was able to meet so many Rainers that I felt I was home. Is that strange? After getting to know so many people through comments, following their lives and seeing their pictures each day I felt like it was a homecoming! Adding hugs, face to face conversation, and sharing space with

dear diary: Are you using today's technology to your best advantage? - 10/18/08 06:19 PM
Are you using today's technology to your best advantage? We, as Realtors, Mortgage Brokers, Stagers, Insurance Reps, and others have a host of Technology at our fingertips. And, if you're like me....you may not be utilizing it to your fullest advantage. Active Rain is instrumental in opening my eyes to the archaic methodology that lingers from the past within our industries. There are so many viable ways to utilize the technological advances that are being made every single day to aid us in our businesses. I have found

dear diary: Oh I'm Fine, I'm Fine She Says.... - 10/15/08 07:58 PM
Quickie laugh. I was just visiting with Marchel Peterson of Spring Texas. Marchy and I have been able to network and make money TOGETHER with the help of Active Rain. I was visiting with her about the Real Estate BarCamp Houston we both plan to attend on Wednesday the 22, of October... All seemed fine as we were giggling about Real Estate and other things and I heard this BLAM-thunkity-thunk-BLAM. My reaction was Marchel are you okay??? Are you okay???? A long moment later she says...I'm fine, I'm fine, I just went over a curb! I don't see well at
