debra brooks: Dear Guinness Book of World Records, I'm Stuck Again... - 10/01/11 04:24 PM
I believe I could easily make the Guinness Book of World Records for "getting the car stuck". My serious weakness is curbs, culverts, curbs, and occasionally mud but with the drought I have to stick to the curb thing. . I have had clients with me on many of the occasions of having to be towed out of culverts. It does give us a lot of visiting time. Today was a day off for me...and believe me I am frustrated with myself and Mr. Murphy the curb man. Murphy's Law states that if I need to be somewhere on time a

debra brooks: Got Virus? - 09/23/11 03:37 PM
This isn't as great a tag line as "Got Milk?" but today it's a valid question. My husband tells me that I have the most expensive computers in the universe. We can get a great deal on a notebook and by the time I've had it for a year it's been to the shop twice. Maybe it's because I spend so much time on this thing? Or, maybe I'm just gullible. Over the course of time with trial and error I have learned quite a bit about self diagnosing a virus and going through the steps to clear it up. We

debra brooks: Would You Sell Your ActiveRain Profile and Position? - 09/20/11 08:18 PM
And if you would, how much would you charge? Let's say you have maybe more than 50,000 points, you've meticulously set up your Profile page with your personal and professional information and testimonials...you got your background all set up and you've begun to blog. At 50,000 points you still would have blogged quite a bit to acquire that many points. How much time do you have in that Profile and how much is your time worth? Your Profile includes everything you have done on ActiveRain including your Posts and Blogs and Comments. Now, let's try it again...you are more of a prolific blogger

debra brooks: Huntsville Texas Looking for rain! - 09/18/11 05:24 PM
I'm not sure just how much many of you understand about the devastation of our 2011 drought. It's certainly not your fault and that's not what I'm saying...it's just that when an earthquake hits a part of the world we feel terrible yet still cannot understand the level of devastation. My husband and I are attempting to sell a home in Huntsville Texas on 3.83 acres that was absolutely gorgeous. Flowers, trees, shrubs, green grass, beautiful blue water in the pond and lush and healthy trees and landscaping. Examples: Pretty, huh? My trees are dieing

debra brooks: Will County Taxes Rise if Property Values Drop? - 09/16/11 05:33 PM
This question can be posed for just about any County on the map. This is an unusual Market Report. But, our Market may see changes very quickly. Montgomery County is truly being affected at this point. This is really a scary question to ask since it does have an answer. First of all what would or could cause the property values to drop? Obviously the economy has something to do with it as the Lender's hesitation to loan money causes a higher demand for qualified Buyers. So, it's a given that prices will drop when there are more

debra brooks: Lots of lots available in Bentwater on Lake Conroe, and why? - 09/15/11 04:15 PM
If you are a lot owner on the water at Bentwater I have some words of advice. You may be asking, "why is my lot not selling?' From the observation of DOM, Days on Market, many of you landowners listed as far back as 2009. Real Estate and our sales are LOCAL and not National. Locally, in the year 2009 we were still in a strong seller's market. Our local bubble had only begun to spring a leak. Looking back to that time, there were a flood of foreclosures that hit right about that very time you listed your lots. With

debra brooks: Deb Hired an Assistant! Her name is Reecie Sue... - 09/15/11 03:18 AM
Mom hired me as her assistant. She could see the many talents I possess. It takes talent to recognize talent...right? I do all that I can to keep her organized and when she gets a little down I kiss her feet. She giggles and says to "stop" but I know she doesn't mean it so I keep licking! Mom and dad adopted me a few months back and I love my new home. I am a cross between a Shuh Tzu and a Rat Terrier. You don't have to mention the latter cuz I don't look

debra brooks: Don't look back! The IRS could be on your heels. - 05/04/10 11:38 PM
So you gave up to Foreclosure? The IRS may be on your heels! If you are one of the thousands of homeowners that felt relief by allowing their homes tobecome foreclosed on your relief may be short lived. Many of us became wrapped up in theability to use our homesteads as ATM machines and the banks were fine with it. Now, after the money is spent and debt is rising you find that your home is not worth the amount you havein it. Yikes! The job market has tightened and you may have even lost your livelyhood. Or, you had a line

debra brooks: A Tribute To Active Rain. Dear GOOGLE, "Pick me, Choose me, Love me." - 04/27/10 02:43 PM
We all want to say to GOOGLE, "Pick me, Choose me, Love me." WHEN I began selling Real Estate back in 2002 I was feeling very discouraged. Oh, not for lack of sales. In fact I was top producer at the firm the very year I began. I just wasn't thrilled with what I had to sell! I learned quickly that selling an $8,000 piece of land was as complicated or even more work than selling a $200,000 home! And, the problem was that my potential clients would walk in the door right off the street and demand so much of

debra brooks: Stand Out In A Crowd - 04/13/10 12:13 PM
We are all aware that we are only one of many. Whether we are are Realtors, Mortgage Brokers, Inspectors or Buyers or Sellers we must find our way of STANDING OUT IN A CROWD! If we just do what everyone else is doing then we are simply just one of the masses! Even though your competition looks as good as these Bluebonnets we must each find a way to show our true colors and learn how to outshine the rest! I am not going to give a list of what I think we should do. These discoveries and changes must

debra brooks: Do You Speak Real Estate "SIGN" Language? - 10/17/09 05:30 PM
Do You Speak Real Estate "SIGN" Language? And, no I don't mean like this... No, no. I mean really... Do you speak Real Estate sign language?? I find this to be one of my weaknesses in this busy crazy business we are in. I was thinking about it today though and I am personally committing to better myself for my business and my client's sake. The kind of sign language I'm talking about is of course our Real Estate signs. I really believe that we can increase our business just by becoming more diligent with our signage. When you place your

debra brooks: WHY RAISE THE CEILING IN A NEGOTIATION? - 10/16/09 06:10 PM
When assisting "potential clients" or "clients" do you qualify "CEILING PRICE"? If they tell you their top dollar is $400,000 Shouldn't you GO ONE STEP FURTHER FOR THE GOOD OF THE CLIENT? What is that one step??? Think about it. LIFE IS A NEGOTIATION ANY DIRECTION WE TURN. Not just with our clients but in everyday structure. PERIOD. IT JUST IS. In this day of the current economy...we MUST KNOW THERE IS ROOM FOR NEGOTIATION!!! If they qualify for $400,000 then why not try $401,000 to $425,000? One of our main purposes of being a Realtor is to handle the

debra brooks: Hi...I'm an Acronym. KISS - 09/18/09 07:02 PM
Hi, I'm an Acronym...get it? No, they won't get it. Think this through and learn to speekie da English. Sure, it's impressive to see all your designations next to your name. Sure, you put a lot of work into getting through those courses to attain a "certified" status.... BUT, My question is: How many "consumers" give a rats behind? I've been noticing many of my competitors web sites and their personal introduction. If I were a consumer I wouldn't have a clue what you were talking about and would move on to someone else that actually "talks" to me. Hi! I'm
