Thankful Thursday- a day in my life as wife and mother! - 10/29/10 01:21 AM
From time to time I've written posts about how crazy and complicated the life of a broker/owner can be with all the ends and outs of real estate in today's market. In fact I have to say this is the year with the highest percentage of complications, most contract extensions and lost deals. But this post... is about my life away from the office. Our home life has been a little hectic lately. First of all, we have a blended family. You know a married couple with his and her children. My daughter just recently moved back home. Not completely as (30 comments)

Cats Rule... dogs drool.... - 10/23/10 04:06 PM
For the past several months my daughter has been home again. In and Out that is. She still has her own place it wasn't convenient to school and now to her new employer. So while she's trying to sub-let her house in Athens she and Lexi have been back at moms. Lexi is a nearly two year old Australian Shepard. At first we were afraid to let her play with my dogs Laney and Glen because they have a HUGE weight/size advantage over her and serious teritorial issues. But we worked that out. The cats on the other hand are a (14 comments)
Paying it forward... what can I do? - 10/22/10 05:23 PM
I try to live my life in a manner that is more giving than expecting. And since joining Ralph's group I've been racking my brain for a what to do, what to do. Well here's a "what I did". And let me give credit where it is due... it was Elizabeth Weintraub that inspired me. A few weeks ago she wrote about being a bone marrow registry member. I was inspired. Now I am a member too and have sent them my DNA to be tested for a potential match. I have been blessed with good health. So has my daughter. (21 comments)

The best man I've ever known turned 70 yesterday - 10/21/10 01:42 PM
If you saw my "wordless Wednesday" photo last night, it was a birthday gift for a man I've loved all my life, literally all my life. I've also always thought it was super neat that my daddy was born on 10-20-40. I mean really, how cool is that? My daddy has always dabbled in wood working and carving. Below are a couple of things he's made for me over the years. I also have walking sticks, two linked hearts made from cedar and a few sling shots with carvings on the staff of them.
The Georgia National Fair in Perry will end on Sunday. - 10/15/10 03:04 PM
I'm back at work today, catching up, had an unexpected showing early this morning too. I took the past two days off. I had a fabulous two days. Wednesday my husband and I had friends over for lunch and an afternoon of Hand and Foot. If you've never played and like cards, it's super fun. I linked to the rules. Oh and Wednesday we won :) Yeah. Max and Mary have had a long winning streak. I cooked Minestrone soup, we had a salad, we had lasagna and big pan of roasted carrots, brussel sprouts, onions and mushrooms. Oh and Donald (12 comments)
No cost of living raise for social security recipients, medicare expected to go up - 10/15/10 12:08 PM
For the second year in a row those drawing social security or disability will not be getting an increase. But on the other hand the part of your check they keep to pay for your monthly medicare costs will increase. That comes across to me as a pay cut. And granted, inflation isn't occurring at a rapid rate, but the price of goods and services certainly aren't going down. I can't imagine... why congress thinks it was okay to continue to let their pay automatically increase, raise the expense accounts and not give retirees a COLA two years in a row. I don't (8 comments)
Job, no job, job... - 10/14/10 01:16 AM
My life is rarely without drama and this week has been no exception. Last week my daughter was offered a job after a series of interviews and physical tests. Tuesday she went to take her physical and be fitted for uniforms. She was finishing up with her physical when she took her eye exam. For those of you who don't know, my Abigail has amblyopia. She has left eye dominate and 20/200 vision in her right eye and so her brain doesn't recognize what her right eye is looking at. When she was asked to read the eye chart with her (21 comments)
I celebrate the little things and I'm very happy - 10/13/10 01:49 AM
In 11 hours from the time I'm typing this I will be having lunch with friends. It's my turn, I'm cooking lunch and then we'll play cards all afternoon. It's October 13th. An anniversary of sorts. My husband Donald and I have one of those love stories that makes people say, "Seriously". Ten years ago today was the first time we met face to face. I don't even remember if he spoke to me at all, but he kissed me and took my breath away. He was flying through Georgia on his way to California from Germany. I drove to Atlanta (20 comments)
A walk in Possum Point at Lake Sinclair- like a walk in the park - 10/11/10 04:15 PM
My husband and I take turns walking our dogs. He works a schedule currently of 6 days on and 3 days off. On his 6 days on, I take the dogs for their evening walk after I get home from work. This might prove a little difficult in a couple more months as it's nearly dark when i get home at 5:30. But right now, this time of year, I really enjoy it. The air feels great, the summer visitors to the lake are gone and it's a nice quiet walk. Well that is, unless we see a deer, and then (13 comments)
Dual Agency- do you understand it? It can work. - 10/10/10 01:21 PM
Recently I read a post on designated and dual agency that led me to writing this post. I want to explain a little to you the buyer or you the seller who might be searching for the right brokerage firm on Lake Sinclair to list or assist you in finding a home.I will be the first to admit that when buyer's agency arrived on the scene I was one of the biggest skeptics around. When I entered the real estate profession agents represented sellers and sellers only. After all the seller was paying the commission so he seemed entitle to have (5 comments)
She was a client and we couldn't let her do it... ask your broker before you commit to a lender. - 10/09/10 03:16 PM
Typically I don't write about "current" transactions or negotiations, but this is a little different and I feel what I have to say NEEDS to be out there. One of my agents is working with a client, she's found "THE" house. She wants to talk with the lender that has her "pre-approved". I've never worked with this lender before, but when I hear the name my panic button goes... ding ding ding. Because I am on this lenders "email" list and get emails from him ALL the time. And I actually emailed him a while back and asked a question... not once, (10 comments)
The quiet of fall at Lake Sinclair - 10/06/10 06:37 PM
All during the summer when I walk my dogs I am constantly having to get off the road for the traffic. And of course it's hot and well I don't like hot and I don't like cold. But today, was a perfect beautiful afternoon for a walk with my dogs. I got home a little late because I had a few things at the office that I just had to get finished before I left for the day. I also have to be back early becuase the duty agent has an early morning appointment tomorrow. My puppies were great today. Usually (9 comments)
PAYING FOR FLOOD INSURANCE AT LAKE SINCLAIR? Maybe you don't need it. - 10/05/10 02:55 PM
Well, one of our deals has hit a snag. Surprise Surprise. This time it's flood insurance. I've been posting about this issue for a couple of years. In 2008 FEMA mapped Putnam County. The maps are perhaps (how can I say this nicely) a little LESS than accurate. It's a catch 22. You can't avoid lender flood insurance without a LOMA (Letter of Map Amendment) after you submit an Elevation Certificate to FEMA for review(this is a lengthy process). You can't get flood insurance in the amount you need from your insurance company unless you provide an Elevation Certificate putting you (10 comments)
What you say just might not be what they hear! - 10/01/10 12:40 PM
Good communication is a skill that is very necessary for me to do my job as broker. Not only do I have to communicate with customers and clients, but the agents in my office, agents and brokers outside my office, my advertising vendors, attorneys, loan officers, home inspectors, my IT guy... the list goes on and on. Last evening when my husband called to say he was on his way home from work and would be stopping off at the store it was my daughter who took the call. She's at her first "big girl" job interview right now as I (30 comments)
