Halloween, pumpkin carving, bookcase building, and wondering why she called. - 10/30/11 09:41 PM
My recent vacation was great.  I was so happy to get to spend some time with family.  It also made me realize that if I'm NOT at my office the world isn't going to end.
So I took this weekend off.  It was busy.  Friday I worked just a little late.  My desk had gotten deep since vacation and I was determined to get it back to an orderly chaos.  I had a home inspection.  There were some minor "things", but nothing that would frighten my buyer away.  Then it was a lovely dinner, sad though.  Donald took me to Sylvia's.  … (10 comments)

Blogging for Business... just the tip of the iceberg! - 10/27/11 04:42 PM
Blogging for Business... just the tip of the iceberg!
When I found ActiveRain the fall of 2008 I barely knew what a blog was and I jumped in with both feet.  My very first post was personal.  It was all about my personal motivation for getting up and going to work every day.  And of course it was a new place to post my listings and eventually after months of work it paid off and I got a client as a direct result of a listing I posted.  It was a foreclosure listing I'd accepted that wasn't in my immediate area and … (92 comments)

Wordless Wednesday- into the mystic - 10/26/11 12:53 PM

The fog this morning made me think of this Van Morrison song.  Enjoy.

A plea of help to Randall L Stephens, CEO & President of AT&T - 10/25/11 11:30 AM
A plea of help to Randall L Stephens, CEO & President of AT&T

To make this story as short as I can... in August 2008 I called AT&T from my office to have my AT&T voice-mail turned off in an attempt to save money.  Although I dialed the "residential" department phone number because I called from the office my call was answered (I found out this months later) in the small business dept.  But the girl I was talking to about my phone bill and ways to "save" money informed me that I could get a discount on my home … (38 comments)

Hunting Season opens Saturday October 22, 2011 - 10/21/11 02:52 PM
Saturday opens the first day of hunting season with firearms in Georgia.  Please, hunt, thin the herd in my area (Putnam County).  Those skinny little boogers LOVE my rose bushes and vegetable garden in the summer.
But when you are hunting this season be mindful of all the safety issues.  Be careful, be sure and follow the laws. A quick link to the GA DNR we site where the regulations can be found is a good place to start.  Some counties allow hunting in baited fields because the deer population is so out of control, Putnam County does not.  You should … (16 comments)

Flood insurance on Lake Sinclair - 10/18/11 10:10 AM
Well, one of our deals has hit a snag.  Surprise Surprise.  This time it's flood insurance.  I've been posting about this issue for a couple of years.  In 2008 FEMA mapped Putnam County.  The maps are perhaps (how can I say this nicely) a little LESS than accurate.
It's a catch 22.  You can't avoid lender flood insurance without a LOMA (Letter of Map Amendment) after you submit an Elevation Certificate to FEMA for review(this is a lengthy process).  You can't get flood insurance in the amount you need from your insurance company unless you provide an Elevation Certificate putting you … (8 comments)

Americans Helping Wounded Veterans - 10/16/11 02:50 PM
I've written about Bob Paschal previously and over the years we've talked on the phone a few times, but last week he invited my Donald and I to be a part of a very special event.  Bob has dedicated himself to helping others.  Bob Paschal is a very decorated Veteran himself.  Last night we were honored to meet him and spend the evening at t benefit concert "A Blast From The Past" with Joey Rand and Friends. The entertainment was great.  He's great for audience participation and it was a very intimate setting.  Joey was also quite emotional talking about the … (7 comments)

Pet owners who want to sell at Lake Sinclair - 10/15/11 04:37 PM
I love my cats and I have three five of them (two live at my office).  They have the run of the house all the time.  I don't let them get on the table or the countertop when I'm home, but of course I find the occassional item knocked off the window sill over my sink, so I know they MUST go there when I am sleeping or at the office.
I also have two large dogs.  When I am home they have the run of the house, they also have crates inside for sleeping and a fence outside.
BUT, my … (18 comments)

This isn't about a Political Statement, it's about the state of America today. My Son! - 10/14/11 11:32 PM
Are you even kidding me?  I just can't believe the stupidity of this.  If you go to the original post you can find an email address and phone number for the hotel where you can call to support Sean.  We should all join Kevin in his support and pride in his son who is a proud American.  Email them.  Do your part.

Paying it forward- help to fight a tax assessment - 10/14/11 04:42 PM
Every once in a while when someone stops by my office looking to lower their tax assessment their request is laughable.  For the most part I would say my county is pretty good at being close to a true value on assessments. But sometimes the number are REALLY off the mark.  This year I've assisted several people and this week I had one that was several thousand dollars over any comps.  The property was in an estate and chances are it's been way too high for many many years with someone of failing health and other concerns just paying the tax … (3 comments)

I always wanted to go to the San Diego Zoo - 10/13/11 03:46 PM
I'd visited before and seen lots of the sights, but never gotten to the San Diego Zoo.  Well this last trip we made it too the zoo.  And I had a great time with my Donald, our nieces Amanda and Kristin and my mom in law.  Here are some of my favorite shots from the zoo.

We had a great time and if you ever get the chance I certainly recommend going to the zoo.  One of these days I'll get back there and see the rest of it.  You can't fit it all into just one day.  But I'm … (17 comments)

A great place to eat in Tucson- that came with a recommendation by Mike Jones - 10/11/11 12:23 PM
I was driving west and the sky was just beautiful.  I thought about all the wonderful dessert photos I'd seen Mike Jones post and would have loved to stop and take that photo op, but I was headed toward family.  Family that I had not seen in four years and my husband hadn't seen in three years and to meet my beautiful first great niece so we snapped a few photos through the windshield of the car moving at about 80 mph and kept going.  But we did soak in all the beauty.
A few days after that I was sitting … (15 comments)

Got my AT&T phone bill.... - 10/10/11 10:57 PM

Oh yeah, I got my mail.... I had it held while I was on vacation so it wouldn't pile up in the box.  Perhaps you all remember my "issue" with AT&T back in August.  So as you might imagine I just howled with laughter when I opened my phone bill.  I was expecting 83.00 as that's what they promised.  Holy Batman!
As you can see my "scribble" of a case "tracking #" they are investigating.  But while they are investigating.... I've contacted my attorney.  If this error blemishes my credit... we're gonna have a little problem.  And when I say … (30 comments)

An afternoon with Russel Ray and Jim Frimmer - 10/09/11 05:42 PM
I like football and while I might have enjoyed the game, I decided a week ago to NOT go to the chargers game so my husband could have a little Bro time with Andrew, his baby brother.  I stayed at the softball field with my nieces when my husband left me and the GPS to "find my way" back to his mom's house.  I had called Russel to let him know I would be out his way a few days before so I gave him a call and he was super sweet.  First he did not just have me meet him … (24 comments)

Paying it forward- outside our MLS - 10/09/11 03:11 PM
I have to admit that I cringe a little when I get calls from agents who act like a know it all and then demand informtion.  But yesterday I got a call from a seemingly newer agent in a near by area who is not a member of the same MLS I am a member of, but somewhat familiar with the area and with a buyer.  She asked, not demanded for information.  I was more than happy to help.
She explained that her client had sent her a "list" of MLS numbers that were NOT in her MLS.  So I looked … (2 comments)

First priority- Family, family always comes first. - 10/08/11 05:39 PM
I am a real estate broker and I own my own firm and when I am working I dedicate myself to the task at hand.  And in the down turn in the market I spent more hours working for less money.  But when I have seen many of my colleagues close their doors and even some loose their homes I have continued to have success.  I credit that success to my ability to adapt and change with both technology and the market.  My family, perhaps, has missed me the past four years and so I finally arranged a two week vacation.  … (52 comments)

It was a dark and stormy night- paying it forward - 10/01/11 10:43 AM
Actually it wasn't stormy, but it was very VERY VERY dark and I was hauling down the interstate in Oklahoma on Monday night just before midnight when it happened.  And what "I" did is so very little compared to my Donald.  I drive,  There are a multitude of reasons that I won't get into with this post, but I drive.  Donald was awake, but not paying attention to the road (he trusts my driving) and we were listinging to a Lincoln Lawyer novel.  In the very very dark a car on the east bound lane went spinning out of control, then … (28 comments)
