a day in life of a broker: Could you handle a day in the life of a broker? - 11/18/16 03:32 AM
A smiggin of background... the text you are are about to read is about a contract 10 days beyond the scheduled date to close and we're about to write our second extension.
A little after midnight (technically that was today) I noticed a message.  Did I? Had I? had I let one slip through the cracks?  Oh ... I really almost drove to the office at 1 am in my pajamas to see if the termite letter was indeed in the file. I didn't sleep well and alka seltzer was my friend.  When I got into the office (by 9:15) which is … (36 comments)

a day in life of a broker: My love hate relationship with a phone company - 02/24/15 11:47 AM
I don't know about where you live, but where I live if you want a land line and internet your choices are limited. VERY VERY VERY limited.  So yes, I still have land lines at my office and a dedicated fax. And the phone company is my source for internet service.
I've tried so hard to be patient lately, but today I nearly ran out of it while I was listening to bad music while on hold.  A couple of months ago my phone bill arrived and it was MUCH higher than normal so I called to find out why.  Well My … (30 comments)

a day in life of a broker: 5 Day Gratitude Challenge- Day 1 - 08/25/14 12:56 PM
Laura Cerrano challenged us all to write about three things we're filled with gratitude about for 5 straight days.  I'm starting that challenge today.

I'm grateful that every single time I ask my husband to do something for me he does it.  Tonight I didn't feel well and he stopped what he was doing and made me scrambled eggs because that was the only thing that I thought I could eat.  Yesterday he stopped what he was doing and came to my office and helped kill the millions of ants that decided they wanted to live inside sometime Saturday night. … (18 comments)

a day in life of a broker: Funerals, family and business... - 02/19/14 12:23 PM
There are times when business just has to be put aside no matter how much of it there is to do.  We are having one of our most busy weeks in years.  I've had agents bumping into each other going in and out the door with clients this week.  We've also had lots of new listings this week too.  My assistant hasn't had time to get all our marketing in place for all the new listings yet because there are so many recently.
Yesterday, business had to come to a halt for me, although my agents and staff were all still … (12 comments)

a day in life of a broker: My desk is under here, somewhere, I think. - 02/18/14 01:37 AM
No, you don't get a photo. But right at this moment it looks like a tree morphed into a pile of paper on my desk.  Georgia Real Estate Commission requires a hard copy and files, bills, books, folders, business cards are currently totally covering my desk.  Yes, I am about to start the clean up.  But it's going to take multiple dalys to get to the bottom of it.
I will say that the good news is that I helped one of my agents with multiple appointments this week get his desk cleaned off and his files organized this morning.  If … (13 comments)

a day in life of a broker: Are we there yet? - 03/12/13 02:08 PM
Today was a very crazy day.  I feel like I'm 17 years old and sitting in the back seat of my parent's Cressida when the left the world's fair in Knoxville headed to the beach.  Are we there yet?  I bet my little brother and I asked that question 1000 times between Knoxville, TN and Myrtle Beach, SC.  As an adult I can appreciate that my parents took me to the world's fair... as that 17 year old girl I just wanted to get to the beach.
I have a feeling that one of my current buyers is feeling much like … (14 comments)

a day in life of a broker: Selling a home and buying a new house... don't get a check and deposit it - 02/22/13 01:28 AM
This week has felt like the movie Groundhogs Day.  Monday, Monday, Monday, Monday... problems, problems, problems....
I have buyers moving here from another state.  Their closing in the other state went well.  They walked out with a check and went and deposited said check into a checking account.  They met the movers and packed the truck and headed to Georgia for a closing.  They went to the bank to withdraw funds from their closing and nope... NOT AVAILABLE.  So we have spent the week scrambling.  We've gotten a move in agreement so the furniture can be delivered to new home, we've … (10 comments)

a day in life of a broker: It's been a busy day at Lane Realty - 11/06/12 06:12 AM
New listing today, but it's bad day for photos, so you'll just get to know it's below $200,000 and has a dock on Lake Sinclair.  It's just got a tiny bit of water frontage, but it's a really nice nice house.  Photos tomorrow (if it's not still raining).
New buyer appointment for Thursday (but I gave that one to one of my agents because I have three appointments on Thursday already)  Buyer happy he still will get to see house.  Agent happy to get new buyer.
Finally got state to give information to insurance company on Manufactured home under contract for … (7 comments)

a day in life of a broker: Motherly protection... extends to my agents and my clients - 07/24/12 10:38 AM
Do you see "back off" in those eyes?  Because I was standing just over the fence and I can assure you that is exactly what the new mama was thinking when I was snapping away.  I was trying to get some good photos since we're the "dairy capitol" of Georgia and have an annual festival, but Mommy cow wanted no part of me getting to close to her baby.
Today when I wanted to choke out a listing agent who "got to close" to my buyers I knew just how this MAMA cow must have felt.  So you have a seller … (6 comments)
