USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park near Mobile and the cable television network HBO are teaming up for a tribute to those currently serving in our armed forces, and veterans of all wars. The partnership will create a video tribute campaign, enabling everyone to record a video “thank you” that could become part of a montage to appear on HBO.com.
HBO has sponsored a video kiosk on the main deck of the USS Alabama so visitors to the World War II-era ship can record messages of thanks to veterans and active duty troops. From these video tributes a montage will appear on … (0 comments)

Surfside Recycling in Gulf Shores - 03/25/10 07:44 PM
 
The beaches of Baldwin County’s cities, inlcuding Orange Beach adn Gulf Shores,  will join forces to develop a surfside recycling program.
It is estimated that approximately 80 percent of the trash that ends up on the beach could be recycled.
The goal is for Gulf Shores and Orange Beach to collect paper, plastic and aluminum and all the other trash from the shoreline.
Gulf Shores recently applied for a $300,000 Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) grant to help launch the effort. Through its two-year-old Recycling Fund, the state agency distributes a portion of the revenue generated by collecting $1 for … (1 comments)

Along with the gentle March breezes quickly blowing through Orange Beach, the spring-breakers are also arriving in town. Once the University of Alabama, Auburn University and Mississippi State University begin weeklong recesses, the Spring Break Season kicks off in Orange Beach.
According to Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft, advance reservations for late spring and early summer are strong and every indication is things are going to go well. Hotels, shopping, dining, water rides, shark tanks and a swim-with-the-dolphins attraction… All of this surely sounds like great fun, and even better it’s located in Gulf Shores, well, maybe… Finally, it looks 144-acre Bama Bayou entertainment complex may get to see the day of its completion.
The Bama Bayou entertainment complex is represented by Sam McKerall a Gulf Shores lawyer who has said he is trying to assemble a new group of investors to complete the project. The goal would be to open the doors during next year’s Spring break.
