blog anthology: Hyper-Local... and the Long Tail... - 11/13/09 09:21 AM
I just ran across a video referenced by a Seth Godin Blog post.  In effect, Seth was saying that you don't want "everyone"... you want "someone".  Even more, you want a special someone... and I'm not talking about dating, I'm talking about business.
The video is almost 13 minutes long, but I will tell you that I think it is well worth watching.  And it is worth it on several levels...
Check out this guy's enthusiasm for what he does.  Is this the vendor you want to deal with?  He know and loves his product.  Is this the kind of vendor … (18 comments)

blog anthology: 101 Cars I Must Drive... It's a wrap... - 09/27/09 09:52 PM
I just completed a 101 post series.  In fact, I wrapped it up just about an hour ago.  I have been working on it for almost a year...  When I started, I was going to "dribble" the posts at random times, but I figured out after a few weeks that I needed to schedule the posts.  After that, they were mostly posted on Wednesdays and Sundays.  In fact, for the last nine months or so, I have been posting these on LaneBailey.com every Wednesday and Sunday... I haven't had to think very hard about what to post on those days, because … (7 comments)

I want a Trophy... Video Sunday... 101 Cars, Part 11.  Do you know what a Trophy Truck is?  If you don't, you should.  Even if you aren't a car junkie like me, these things are impressive.  The power of an Indy car, the suspension travel of a monster truck, and the endurance of a LeMans prototype.  All in one dirty package.
A lot of people have called me names.  I try to embrace the good in them.  Be the Twit(terer)...  So, I'm happy to be a Twitterer.  And a FaceBooker.  I'm happy to be LinkedIn... and to be Active in the … (3 comments)

Ahh, minimalism.  I went maximalist on my minimalism for 101 Cars, Part 9... Video Sunday.  I love a nice Lotus 7.  Minimalist car, maximalist performance.  Think go-kart, steriods, velcro and faster than thought.  It handles like a go-kart, powered with steriods, sticky like velcro and it reacts BEFORE you can think about it.
Gee, you'd think that there wouldn't be a lot of opportunity in a market like this, when the truth is exactly the opposite.  Gwinnett Investment Properties?  You bet!  Seriously, in a buyer's market, buyers rule.  We are in a buyer's market, and if you are a buyer, there … (1 comments)

you might notice that this anthology update covers two weeks rather than just one...  The NAR Convention was at Disney World in Orlando, and we were down there for a week.  So, I wasn't able to provide regular updates...  Sorry.
As has now become a little bit of a habit, Video Sunday was a post in the new series...  101 Cars, Part 7.  One of my favorite cars was my Shelby Mustang.  It was a brutal car to drive, and not as much a high maintenance Diva as an athlete that performs amazingly on the field but is a little rough … (1 comments)

Video Sunday meets 101 Cars, Part 4.  And the subject for today is hybrids between race cars, street cars and off-roaders... that carry 100 gallons of fuel, very quickly.  So, how many people have heard of the Bowler Nemesis?
Is your Lilburn listing getting ready to expire?  Brace yourself.  I'll tell you why.  All of the agents that never saw your home prior to expiration are now going to be doing everything they can to get you to list it with them... including me (I'm at least honest about it).  I have a strategy...

I think that as soon as people ran the first car on a road, one of the guys thought... "Let's see if we can jump that beast."  Thus was born Truly Stupid Human Tricks...  After all, what fun is it if it doesn't get a little air now and then.
I enjoyed watching the Speed Channel series 101 Cars You Must Drive.  However, every once in a while I wanted to write a letter asking why they picked one car or another.  Some of the cars were amazingly cool, but others were neither historically significant, not exciting.  So, I decided instead … (0 comments)

Video Sunday is my regular feature where I post up a couple of interesting videos... usually racing related.  This week I posted about Freestyle Motocross.  When it is good...  It is REALLY good, but when it is bad, it is REALLY bad.
I often find myself sitting down to write a blog post and ending up with something completely different than I thought I would have.  Sometimes the subject forces me to change, other times I find myself going in a new direction as I start researching.  This time I did a 180* turn... when I logged into the admin panel … (0 comments)

Slow, Sloppy and Dirty... Video Sunday. One of the few times each year when I plan on leaving the realm of cell phones and internet access is for the SFWDA Dixie Run.  I get to camp for a few days and help keep the area open to 4wheeling.  I grabbed a few 4wheeling videos to celebrate.
Oh just short sell it...  At least that seemed to be the advice that one person at the grocery store was giving another.  It isn't that simple... don't think it is.

Both the gas crisis in Atlanta and the worldwide credit crisis need the same message.  Don't Panic.  Panicking makes everything worse.  People topping off their cars every day, people selling off all of their stocks... same thing.  They just feed the panic.
Part three of my Atlanta Gas Crisis was more focused on finding ways to mitigate the issue.  There is … (3 comments)

It isn't enough to have a fast car that you tow to the track... now it is also uber-cool to have a nasty fast tow rig.  After all, with the newer technologies in diesel engines, the wick can get turned up pretty high fairly easily.  When you go to the diesel drags, you'll see contractors and landscapers with their "work" trucks...  Race your tow rig...
I ran across an interesting article written 8 years ago about two of the main causes of the current financial crisis... and yet both of these are escaping notice from the media.  Ok, one is escaping … (0 comments)

I love Video Sunday...  And I love Rally.  Rallying through the ages was a great excuse to revisit some really cool cars of the past, like the Lancia Stratos... the Darth Vader of Rally cars.
Well... in the couple of weeks from then till now, the Fannie/Freddie thing has become SMALL potatoes.  Bailing here, bailing there...  It is amazing how the government is just trying to throw money at this problem... and ignore the market.

The name is Ballast... Mobile Ballast.  Sunday, Video Sunday took a look at sidecar racing.  It is amazing to watch.  The "rider" climbs all over the back of that thing to put the weight where it needs to be for the best performance.
Boy, most of us had NO clue that What does the Fannie/Freddie bailout mean? would amount to small potatos after the events of the last couple of days.
It isn't every day I can tell you something that will help you Save $100,000...

Better late than never... for Video Sunday.  I was running late on my post.  And so it was completely different.  My wife had a marching band reunion on Sunday, and we got in pretty late...  How many stories began with "This one time at band camp..."
Miracle of miracles.  FMLS posted their numbers for August on Sept. 1st... and so did I.  I have changed over to the PowerPoint format in order to deliver a little more entertaining presentation.  Market Report for Gwinnett County, August 2008.

Nothing makes me crazier than real estate agents that don't take their jobs seriously.  And one of the biggest jobs we have is marketing properties.  And one of the biggest parts of marketing a property is showing photographs...  So, Hold on just a minute there, Bub...

You want to race what?  Seriously, there are a couple of real air race videos for this video Sunday... and one NOT serious, but hilarious.
Jon Washburn here has been tracking a pile of RE blogs for a few months.  I have scraped my way up to #54.  But, I'm Going to break into the Top 50! at some point soon... I hope.

Racing is racing... there are just different scales.  F1 costs $300m+ to field a team for a year.  Nascar is starting to approach $100m.  Saturday Night Dirt Track racing can take up $25k or $250k.  What if you only want to spend $500?  There is a scale...
I've mentioned it here a couple of times.  Pardon the dust... I am up to my earballs in updating some stuff on LaneBailey.com.  I am cleaning up tags and links and adding "More" tags.  It's really boring.

I have not made it a secret that I LOVE WRC (World Rally Championship) racing.  It is simply just about the most exciting form of racing in the world.  So, for Video Sunday, I got Back in the Rally again... Video Sunday.
I am a fan of Localism.  I'm not hiding that much either.  While I think that it will need to grow for a while, it has serious potential.  So, Lilburn and Localism introduces it to my market.  Come on in.  Make yourself known.

Trying to get back on schedule withthe anthology of blog posts on LaneBailey.com...
For Video Sunday, I paid a visit to one of the coolest tracks in the world... one that most people have never heard of.  Nordschleife, the real Nurburgring.  Even in its truncated form, it is over 13 miles long with 73 turns.
I trotted out an old post to give it a little new exposure.  Dirty Little Real Estate Secret.  The media loves to "expose dirty secrets" and most of them aren't that juicy.  When I wrote it, I had just watched a news story about a dirty … (0 comments)

We can't always loaf or watch racing (different things, BTW).  So, Sunday is a good day for Lawn Maintenance... and here are the cool videos.
Live from San Francisco is a compilation of tweets (communications on Twitter) for the day posted.  I was going to post up all of the tweets into daily posts... but it even bored me.
What can I say... you can see the week is pretty slim... Sorry about the lack of posting...
Back from Inman Connect in San Francisco, I took Garrett to watch some model trains.  Small is the new Big... in trains, too.  It … (0 comments)
