linkedin: So, Are You In? #rebcAtlanta - 09/26/10 12:06 AM
It is coming FAST. On Friday, October 1st, Atlanta will host its first ever real estate barcamp. It has been a long time coming, too. The first rebarcamp was in San Francisco in July, 2008. It was the day before Inman, and I think I got more information that I could use that day than the next two combined. Since then I have been to a couple more rebc events, like Charlotte and Raleigh. Each time, I have come away just amazed at the level of information that I took in. The networking has also been extraordinary. Great friendships have been

linkedin: Do you REBC? #rebcATL - 09/02/10 03:09 PM
As mentioned previously, rebarcampATL is ON. Atlanta will be hosting its first ever real estate bar camp. The event is coming up on October 1st... at a venue to be named soon. We have actually had to change venues in order to facilitate the demand. As soon as details are finalized, they will be announced... Have you been to a rebarcamp event? What did you think? What was the best thing about it? What would have made it better? What are you hoping to learn at the next rebarcamp event you attend? Those are just a few of the questions that

and a FaceBook Page... and a Twitter Hashtag... That's right, yesterday on the FaceBook Page for rebcAtlanta, we announced the date and location for the first ever rebarcamp Atlanta. Friday, October 1st, 2010 CoolRay Field, Home of the Gwinnett Braves #rebcatl At the moment, we are putting together the team that will put on the event. The search for sponsors is underway. In the next few days we will roll out registration. It is a busy and exciting time for those of us that have learned so much from rebarcamps and want to extend the reach of the experience. So, you

linkedin: Small Business BarCamp Atlanta - 06/16/10 10:28 AM
Image via Wikipedia I am proud to say that I attended the very first REbarcamp, which was a real estate industry specific technology “unconference”. Basically, the idea behind barcamp is that the conferees get together and create an agenda and then host the sessions. It is an amazing peer-to-peer discussion. Ken Cook, of Social Media Edge on BlogTalkRadio, had the vision to build a barcamp experience optimized for small business owners. Many small businesses have found that ‘New Media’ has presented a very cool opportunity to promote… without spending loads of money. In fact, many smaller businesses have found that they

linkedin: Get Posterous-ized... - 11/25/09 09:09 PM
Let's get the first part out of the way... It is pronounced pa-stir-us... like in preposterous... which would be "life before Posterous." Posterous is a blogging site... and if you are playing in social media, you really need to get onto it if you aren't already. In fact, I will be including it in the future when I talk about the places that agents MUST have a presence. It is THAT important... It isn't because of the audience, nor is it because of the name. It is because of the integration capability. It is one of the coolest options for syndicating

linkedin: Catch a Wave or Make a Plan? - 11/19/09 08:38 PM
I've talked about it, as have many others... Social Media Plan... But is it even possible? During this morning's Social Media Breakfast - Atlanta, one of our members was talking about social media planning... and something occured to me. Just moments before, we were talking about how social media tools had changed dramatically in just the last few months. So... How can we make a plan for a rapidly changing landscape? Can a surfer make a plan for the wave? Or does the wave unfold and he reads it and responds? It would seem obvious that while a surf has

linkedin: Implementation Day... - 11/18/09 07:41 AM
One of the things I find useful after a great day of tech training is to take a day to concentrate on implementation. #VREBC... COOL! Hundreds of "tech forward" real estate professionals around the country took time out of their schedule to attend one or more of DOZENS of webinars for Virtual rebarcamp. But it doesn't matter if the event is an rebarcamp, REtechSouth, RainCamp or something else... the idea is the same. Learning is cool... but IMPLEMENTATION is KEY! Taking a decmpression day is a good idea. When I am done, I have hundreds of ideas and notes and possibilities

linkedin: What Chris Brogan had to say at New Media Atlanta - 10/03/09 11:56 PM
If you weren't there, Chris Brogan, co-author of Trust Agents recently spoke at the New Media Atlanta conference. It was excellent. He ran through several genres of topics, and even addressed the "Back Noise" channel... by putting it on the screen for all to see. (Be aware, there is a bit of profanity, and while Chris didn't "drop the F-bomb", PLENTY of people on Back Noise dropped it all over the place) from LaneBailey.info

linkedin: Have you read? - 09/26/09 10:14 PM
Chris Brogan? He was just the keynote speaker yesterday at the New Media Atlanta event here in Atlanta. Honestly, I knew from the bio that Matt Fagioli sent out (excitedly) that Chris co-wrote Trust Agents... but I hadn't heard of the book, and I didn't know he was "significant". So shoot me... I volunteered to help out with the conference... Matt knows I am a sucker for helping out like that... and after helping with registration, I got to spend a little time doing other things. One of the other things was hanging out in the "Rockstar" Lounge... the VIP area

linkedin: Are you going to New Media Atlanta? - 09/24/09 08:12 PM
Tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 25th) is the day... There are still a few tickets available for purchase at the event... and there is even a little time to grab a ticket online. So, are you going to New Media Atlanta? If you have been to REtechSouth, you have an idea of what New Media Atlanta is going to be like.. but just an idea. Instead of concentrating on the real estate industry, this is about making the business case for Social Network Marketing. The speaker list is impressive! And, for those that get the "Rockstar Pass"... you will have unprecedented access to

linkedin: Social Media Breakfast Atlanta #2 is almost here! - 08/16/09 10:11 PM
That's right... Some of you might remember the first Social Media Breakfast - Atlanta event that Ken Cook and I hosted July 23rd at the Duluth Diner in Gwinnett County. There were a lot of folks that just couldn't make it all of the way over the Gwinnett County... Event #2 will be in Cobb County... That's right, this time we will be meeting at the Atlanta Bread Company near town Center Mall. We will start being social at 7:00am, with a more formal portion of the program running from 7:30 until about 8:30, and everything should be wrapped up by

linkedin: What is YOUR Social Networking Strategy? - 08/09/09 10:22 PM
We often talk about Social Networking and business strategies. Some of us even have created Social Networking Strategies. I have talked about mine. I'd love to hear about yours... One point I'd like to stress is that any strategy is like a battle plan. And every battle plan shares one similarity... it lasts until the first contact with the enemy. In this case, instead of lasting until first contact with the "enemy", it would be first contact with reality. That means that we can sit down and create a plan, but when the rubber hits the road... the plan has to

linkedin: Why bother with a blog? There are all of these other tools... - 08/01/09 05:10 PM
I get asked that question pretty regularly. I am active here on Active|Rain... I'm even an Ambassador. I'm linked up on LinkedIn. I'm showing my face on FaceBook, with 4 business pages and a personal page. I am a solid light on Flickr. I tweet on Twitter, Digg and find things del.icio.us. I am also on about 50 other networks to a lesser extent... from music to Jeeping and sports cars. Why do I need a blog since I am using all of those other tools to interact with consumers? Well, for one thing there is only so much you can

linkedin: Are you using FireFox? - 07/12/09 04:18 PM
If you aren't you should be... It is simply a better browser... I know, I know. Your MLS doesn't work on it, and the franchise you are part of doesn't support it. Well... there are two points you need to know. There isn't a reason in the world you can't have two (or more) browsers installed on your computer. I have three that I use regularly. I use FireFox for almost everything except my MLS. I use Internet Explorer to access the MLS. I use Safari to check my sites for compatibility. More sites are going to be compatible with FireFox...

linkedin: Atlanta Social Media Breakfast... it is ON! - 06/28/09 11:56 PM
That is right... save the day, July 23rd, 2009... EARLY in the morning. We will be meeting at the Duluth Diner on Peachtree Industrial Blvd and Howell Station at 7:00am. The program will run from 7:30-8:30. The Diner opens to the public at 9:00am. There will be plenty of time for socializing, in addition to a great program and Q&A on effectively utilizing Social Media for business. My partner for this even is the one and only Ken Cook of the JCKC Radio Show on Blog Talk Radio. If you haven't been tuning in, you've been missing it... and that isn't

linkedin: Let's go grab a bite... Atlanta Social Media Breakfast - 06/07/09 12:05 AM
If you haven't been reading Ken Cook's blog, you might not have noticed that we nailed down the time and location for the first Atlanta Social Media Breakfast. The event will take place on July 23rd at the Duluth Diner on Peachtree Industrial Blvd. We will have the whole place to ourselves from 7:00 to 9:00am. There will be a little bit of networking from 7:00 to 7:30 and from about 8:30 until 9:00, with the program and discussion in between. We are working towards having one of these events each month, moving the location around town in order to allow

linkedin: Free Love Anyone? - 05/21/09 09:52 AM
One of the things that we all want for our sites (some might not know this yet... but they still want it) is link love. We want those high ranking sites to link back to us and pass some page rank to our blogs and websites. At the same time, many of us are leaving some SERIOUSLY hot and sexy links standing at the bar with a drink in their hand... They want to give us some lovin', but we aren't responding... Now, as David Gibbons (he's the Zillow Dude...) reminded me last weekend, if you participate in social
