Image by lane.bailey via Flickr Kind of odd that for a "Wayback" post I would talk about an upcoming car show... But the show happens around the first Saturday in May each year... and so THIS Saturday is the day. Smokerise Baptist Church is having their 11th Annual Smokerise Car Show on Saturday from 9am until 3pm. Registration runs from 9am until Noon... so there might be a few cars that don't show up until late. Judging runs from Noon until 3pm. And check out this link for pictures from last year's show. Testing his fear of heights... This is the new thing. Each Friday, I will feature a photo. Many will be local. Some may be real estate related. Others will be definately not local, and might not be related to real estate. Cars, people, vacation, homes, garages, tools... fun times. Just about anything might make the cut. stone mountain: Smokerise Baptist Church Car Show - May 1st

It is time again for the Smokerise Baptist Church Car Show. This will be the 12th annual show; it started in 1999. Last year, despite weather that was challenging (causing the show to be delayed a week, and still raining at various times through the day), some very cool vehicles came out for the show. In addition to cars and trucks, there were some cool vintage motorcycles. Here is a little taste of the action from 2009.

stone mountain: Say Goodbye to the Stone Mountain Super Target...

Originally built in 1999, the Super Target located in the shadow of Stone Mountain, next to the old Olympic Tennis Venue, will be closing as of January 30th, 2010. Faced with declining profits from the store, Target is pulling the plug. Most affected are the residents of the Park Springs continuing care center. Many were able to walk to the Target store, and with the closing, will need to find alternate places to fill prescriptions and buy groceries. Image by stevehdc via Flickr Each year, during the third weekend in October, Scots gather in the meadow at Stone Mountain Park. For 37 years the Stone Mountain Highland Games have not only provided cool athletic competition, but also a great musical performances and social interactions. I have been to a few of the events over the years and enjoyed watching athletic events like the Caber Toss (this is throwing a telephone pole, kids…), the Hammer Throw and the Sheaf Toss. Showers flirted with the event, with a few passing through, but there were some pretty cool rides that dodged the drops to make the event. Smoke Rise Baptist Church holds this event on the first Saturday in May each year. Here is the event website. Below is a slide show with all of the cars that showed up for the event. The Smoke Rise Baptist Church Car Show, scheduled for today was delayed by weather. Overnight rains forced the organizers to alter the date, fearing more poor weather. A few cars showed up this morning, but apparently the website and email list was pretty effective at getting out the word. One of the cars that was there this morning was this beautiful Shelby GT500 clone. Gotta love a 428 Cobra Jet.

As one door closes, another opens in its place. As I started to look over upcoming events, I ran across a blurb that the Snellville Days 'Orphan Vehicle Association' Car Show had been canceled due to "unforeseen circumstances." I have no idea what those circumstances might be, and I hope that the OVA is able to recover and present the show again next year. But, as a car guy looking for someplace to take the boys, I ran across a replacement. Smoke Rise Baptist Church has been holding a Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show since 1999. It's that time of year again. From the Stone Mountain Park website: Come to the premiere chili event east of Texas only at Stone Mountain Park . The Chili Cook-Off draws more than 300 teams competing for “Best Of”, “People’s Choice” and “Showmanship” awards in competition categories such as Chili, Brunswick Stew and Cornbread. More than $10,000 in prize money is awarded. Sample the great food and participate in a variety of contests.
