twitter: So, A Real Estate Blog Should Be About Real Estate, Huh? - 09/12/11 03:17 PM
But what about social networking? A few days ago I posted that (in my humble opinion) real estate blogs should be about real estate... not movie reviews, restaurant reviews, not recipes...  Real estate.  That is what the audience is tuning in for, give them what they want.  I gave a few examples of what I see from my traffic patterns, and generally tried to support my opinion.
But, real estate agents that are marketing online (should) have a LOT more channels aside from their real estate blog.  And I DO believe that there is a place in some of those other … (7 comments)

twitter: Lane's Newest Toy... CCotD - 09/01/11 11:43 PM
It is NO secret around here that I am a Car Guy.  I guess that would be why I am THE Garage Guy, too.  For the last 4+ years one thing I have had NO problem being transparent about is my love of things automotive.  Here on this blog, as well as my blog, LaneBailey.com, and my website, GarageHomesUSA.com, I have written numerous posts about cars, garages and cool tools.
Recently, I started a blog solely targeted to other car lovers.  It is called CoolCaroftheDay.com.  And because I seem to be a glutton for punishment, I also created a network of … (2 comments)

twitter: So, Are You In? #rebcAtlanta - 09/26/10 12:06 AM
It is coming FAST.  On Friday, October 1st, Atlanta will host its first ever real estate barcamp.  It has been a long time coming, too.
The first rebarcamp was in San Francisco in July, 2008.  It was the day before Inman, and I think I got more information that I could use that day than the next two combined.  Since then I have been to a couple more rebc events, like Charlotte and Raleigh.  Each time, I have come away just amazed at the level of information that I took in.  The networking has also been extraordinary.  Great friendships have been … (3 comments)

twitter: Do you REBC? #rebcATL - 09/02/10 03:09 PM
As mentioned previously, rebarcampATL is ON.  Atlanta will be hosting its first ever real estate bar camp.  The event is coming up on October 1st... at a venue to be named soon.  We have actually had to change venues in order to facilitate the demand.  As soon as details are finalized, they will be announced...
Have you been to a rebarcamp event?
What did you think?  What was the best thing about it?  What would have made it better? What are you hoping to learn at the next rebarcamp event you attend?
Those are just a few of the questions that … (8 comments)

twitter: rebarcamp Atlanta... A Date and A Venue... - 06/17/10 01:09 PM
and a FaceBook Page... and a Twitter Hashtag...
That's right, yesterday on the FaceBook Page for rebcAtlanta, we announced the date and location for the first ever rebarcamp Atlanta.
Friday, October 1st, 2010
CoolRay Field, Home of the Gwinnett Braves
#rebcatl
At the moment, we are putting together the team that will put on the event.  The search for sponsors is underway.  In the next few days we will roll out registration.  It is a busy and exciting time for those of us that have learned so much from rebarcamps and want to extend the reach of the experience.
So, you … (6 comments)

twitter: Small Business BarCamp Atlanta - 06/16/10 10:28 AM
Image via Wikipedia I am proud to say that I attended the very first REbarcamp, which was a real estate industry specific technology “unconference”.  Basically, the idea behind barcamp is that the conferees get together and create an agenda and then host the sessions.  It is an amazing peer-to-peer discussion.
Ken Cook, of Social Media Edge on BlogTalkRadio, had the vision to build a barcamp experience optimized for small business owners.  Many small businesses have found that ‘New Media’ has presented a very cool opportunity to promote… without spending loads of money.  In fact, many smaller businesses have found that they … (4 comments)

twitter: Are you Buzzed? - 02/16/10 09:17 PM
Image by Máximo Gómez Santos via Flickr If you haven't been in Gmail lately, you might not have noticed Google's new toy tool.  It is called Google Buzz.  In a nutshell, Google is integrating a social media component into Gmail.
In Buzz, users can strike up public or private conversations with integrated video, photos and links.  Kind of like the Status Updates on FaceBook.  In that regard, it is a step above Twitter... the king of the micro-blog/status update world.  Twitter doesn't allow inline photos and videos, so when users share them, viewers have to leave Twitter to view the associated … (8 comments)

twitter: Where do we go from here? - 02/03/10 10:55 AM

Image by Yandle via Flickr What comes next? A few years ago, did we see Twitter and FaceBook dominating the horizon? Did we see MySpace falling off a cliff and becoming a place for bars and bands... and not much else? Did we see the mobile would still be "just around the corner"? Did we know that video would be EVERYWHERE... and still be almost here? Actually, two years ago at REtechSouth, Pat Kitano told me that Twitter was getting ready to go big and that in a few years it would be a dominant social media. But, while FaceBook … (6 comments)

twitter: Posterous Test... Completed... - 11/29/09 11:04 PM
I wrote a couple of posts about Posterous in the last week or so...
Get Posterous-ized... The Great Posterous Experiment... If you aren't familiar with Posterous, they might be a good place to start.
As mentioned in "The Great Posterous Experiment", I devoted the weekend to using Posterous while on a road trip.  Honestly, As a mobile platform to spit out some short posts, It ROCKS!  The limitations are with my phone.  I already know a couple of ways to sneak around those, too...
If you look at my Posterous blog, you will see that I made a BUNCH of posts … (5 comments)

twitter: The Great Posterous Experiment... - 11/26/09 08:32 PM
I have been VERY curious about Posterous.  I have watched about it, written about it, listened about it and played with it.  But I have really "used" it much.
I'm a Man with an Excuse Plan...
While everyone else is shopping for nifty junk they don't need for people they may not like that much, I will be road tripping with a friend of mine.  Atlanta to Hampton, VA on Black Friday... then Hampton to Gaithersburg, MD on Saturday... and Gaithersburg back to Atlanta on Sunday.
Pat and I have done a fair number of road trip together, but previously only … (9 comments)

twitter: Get Posterous-ized... - 11/25/09 09:09 PM
Let's get the first part out of the way...  It is pronounced pa-stir-us... like in preposterous... which would be "life before Posterous."
Posterous is a blogging site...  and if you are playing in social media, you really need to get onto it if you aren't already.  In fact, I will be including it in the future when I talk about the places that agents MUST have a presence.  It is THAT important...
It isn't because of the audience, nor is it because of the name.  It is because of the integration capability.  It is one of the coolest options for syndicating … (15 comments)

twitter: Catch a Wave or Make a Plan? - 11/19/09 08:38 PM
I've talked about it, as have many others...
Social Media Plan...
But is it even possible?
During this morning's Social Media Breakfast - Atlanta, one of our members was talking about social media planning... and something occured to me.  Just moments before, we were talking about how social media tools had changed dramatically in just the last few months.  So...
How can we make a plan for a rapidly changing landscape?
Can a surfer make a plan for the wave?  Or does the wave unfold and he reads it and responds?

It would seem obvious that while a surf has … (8 comments)

twitter: Implementation Day... - 11/18/09 07:41 AM
One of the things I find useful after a great day of tech training is to take a day to concentrate on implementation.
#VREBC...  COOL!
Hundreds of "tech forward" real estate professionals around the country took time out of their schedule to attend one or more of DOZENS of webinars for Virtual rebarcamp.  But it doesn't matter if the event is an rebarcamp, REtechSouth, RainCamp or something else... the idea is the same.
Learning is cool... but IMPLEMENTATION is KEY!
Taking a decmpression day is a good idea.  When I am done, I have hundreds of ideas and notes and possibilities … (9 comments)

twitter: Edit, Edit, Edit... - 11/14/09 07:24 PM
I'm making some modifications to another one of my websites...  This is when it would be really nice to have a staff like the AR folks to design scripts to convert terms and so forth with the theme change.
But the end product will be worth it.
And yes, this is a tease... Here are some of the ingredients...
I am ready to make a change on my WordPress site... Brad and Bobby Carroll (Dakno Marketing) have made a very good point that sites need to carry a brand identity... I have a LOT of content and I would like … (10 comments)

twitter: Are you automatically sending your blog posts to Twitter? Should you? - 11/08/09 11:02 PM
The first question is quite common.  I've seen it several times here on Active Rain, and there are even plugins for WordPress, a check box for Active Rain and websites like TwitterFeed for making it easier... and automatic.
Obviously, getting your posts on Twitter is a great idea.  It broadens the opportunity to expose them to new readers.  But the question revolves around the automation...
Is it a good idea to automate?
From an efficiency standpoint, obviously it is...  Automation is great.
You never forget to do it... You don't have to take the time to do it... It's consistent... But … (18 comments)

twitter: Lane's Active Rain Ambassador Series - Part V... Some Random Musings... - 10/21/09 01:17 PM
No, the series isn't wrapping up...  But there are a few things that I have wanted to say that were too short for their own post, but didn't fit neatly in other posts...
Community...
Active Rain is a social network, at least as much as FaceBook, and certainly more that Twitter (for most users).  What I mean by this is that there are amny things happening here, just like a community.  There are groups of people with similar interests, just like a community.  And there are lots of opportunities to get together and meet others... just like a community.

twitter: Lane's Active Rain Ambassador Series - Part IV... Beyond the Blog - 10/19/09 10:43 PM
You've set up your Active Rain account (hopefully you are a RainMaker).  You have tuned your profile to be cooler than than 803.6% of the other ones here.  You have lurked and learned around the network.  And then you wrote (and hopefully published) a few blog posts.
What more could there possibly be?
There are a load of other things to do, and like building a hot rod, it is work that is never done.  There are always new tools and new subjects.  But we have the big things well under way.  Now it is time to get your blog … (4 comments)

twitter: Social Media Breakfast - Atlanta #4... Two Weeks... - 10/15/09 09:41 PM
That's right.  There are only two weeks left before Social Media Breakfast Atlanta returns to Gwinnett County.
Get together with other Atlanta area business owners, entreprenuers and social networkers to talk about ways to more effectively leverage social media for business... over breakfast.
We will be meeting at the Suwanee location of the Atlanta Bread Company at 8:00am on October 29th.  The address is:
Atlanta Bread Company 3320 Lawrenceville Suwanee Rd NE Suwanee, GA

twitter: What Chris Brogan had to say at New Media Atlanta - 10/03/09 11:56 PM
If you weren't there, Chris Brogan, co-author of Trust Agents recently spoke at the New Media Atlanta conference.  It was excellent.
He ran through several genres of topics, and even addressed the "Back Noise" channel... by putting it on the screen for all to see.  (Be aware, there is a bit of profanity, and while Chris didn't "drop the F-bomb", PLENTY of people on Back Noise dropped it all over the place)

twitter: Snarkaluffagus Anonimitous... Back Noise - 10/01/09 08:54 AM
While at New Media Atlanta last week I was introduced to a new tool toy.  BackNoise.  I think the easiest ways to describe it are as follows...
Back Noise: baak_noiz,  1. Useful tool to gauge reactions to speakers or other aspects of an event, allowing event participants to freely exchange information with each other during the event.  2. A cross between twitter and a convention of hecklers, often snarking just to snark.
Please note, it is often rude, and the language might make a sailor blush.
But that doesn't mean it isn't a useful tool.  It just needs to be understood … (7 comments)
