vacation: Video Sunday... Turtle Talk - 01/31/10 11:27 PM
Video SLast Friday we were at EPCOT in Disney World.  One of the coolest things there was “Turtle Talk with Crush”.  This is an animated AND interactive feature.  Crush interacts with the kids (and some parents) in the audience.  Here is a video…  Just one this week.  I didn’t tape it, but this has higher quality than the one I tried to make.

vacation: Ethel and the Disney Customer Service Experience... - 01/31/10 11:21 PM
So, we went to Disney World last week.  We stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter resort on Disney property.  It was our first time staying at that particular resort, so it was a lot of fun.  However, we had visited the resort back in 2008.  While we were there previously, there was a cookie decorating activity for the kids.
I asked one of the people working in the dining room what time they might be doing that so that I could bring the kids down to do it again.  When she went to check, she informed me that the times … (4 comments)

vacation: I trained for a Marathon... Now I gotta train to play with the kids... - 01/31/10 10:19 PM
A few years ago, my wife and I participated in the Disney World Marathon.  It was a great time.  We ran with the American Stroke Association team.  We spent 5 months getting ready for our 26.2 mile odyssey through the parks.  We had 5 hours to complete the course, which stated near EPCOT, then went through Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and finally Disney Hollywood Studios.  We raised a few thousand dollars, and had a blast...
That wasn't our first or last trip to Walt Disney World.  We went the Disney world and took a Disney cruise for our honeymoon.  We have … (2 comments)

vacation: Is "Live Blogging" the Next Wave? - 01/31/10 09:12 AM
I just got back from vacation...  Thank you, I enjoyed it very much...  The family went to Disney World for a week.  While there, I was experimenting (again) with Live Blogging.
Basically, using my BlackBerry, I was uploading pictures, videos and text posts to a blog throughout the day.  I did take a few moments out of the fun, but much of what was included were pictures or videos I wanted anyway.  And they were things I wanted to share with friends and family (spelled M-O-M).
And that kept creeping a thought into my mind...
Information is speeding...
A couple … (6 comments)

vacation: Kick the Tires and Light the Fires? or The Road Less Traveled. - 11/29/09 11:52 PM
When we get out into the world, there are two main methods of getting from Place A (where you are) to Place B (the portion of the world that you are getting out to).
Just get it done...  Enjoy the ride... Sometimes, you can blend the two...  But not often.
I have done both, and absolutely prefer "enjoying the ride".  But sometimes that isn't possible...  We've all been there.
A while back, I worked retail management.  I decided to surprise my mom in VA by showing up on Christmas.  So, after working from 6:00am to 6:00pm, I made the 500+ mile … (3 comments)

vacation: The Great Posterous Experiment... - 11/26/09 08:32 PM
I have been VERY curious about Posterous.  I have watched about it, written about it, listened about it and played with it.  But I have really "used" it much.
I'm a Man with an Excuse Plan...
While everyone else is shopping for nifty junk they don't need for people they may not like that much, I will be road tripping with a friend of mine.  Atlanta to Hampton, VA on Black Friday... then Hampton to Gaithersburg, MD on Saturday... and Gaithersburg back to Atlanta on Sunday.
Pat and I have done a fair number of road trip together, but previously only … (9 comments)

vacation: And Now For Something Completely Different... and Flat - 11/12/09 02:40 PM
Do you know who “ Flat Stanley” is?  Ours is actually a “Flat Garrett“, but the idea is the same…
He is traveling the world, in an envelope.  We set up a website at FlatGarrett.info to chronicle the visits Flat Garrett makes between now and Spring Break.
Right now, Flat Garrett is hanging out with Bob near Ann Arbor, Michigan.  He will soon be heading back to Seattle, Washington, where Flat Garrett may get to hit a Sonics game and go up in the Space Needle.  In mid-February, he will be visiting Lisa in New Orleans for a ride on a Mardi … (10 comments)

vacation: Mediocre Comfort or Exceptional Risk? - 10/11/09 11:55 PM
We've all been there...  Travelling across country or even out of the country...  We have to eat.
There are two basic choices.  Do we experiment and try something local?  Maybe hit up a "Mom & Pop" place with purely local fare...  Or there is the chain...  We know what they serve, we have their menus memorized.
No matter where you go, the #2 at McDonald's is a Double Cheeseburger.  If it isn't #2, it is still nearby.  And no matter where you go, NO food critic is going to drop out of the sky and think that his #2 is the … (3 comments)

vacation: Did Patton need all of this crap to fight across Germany? - 10/11/09 11:15 PM
We are freshly back from a long weekend in Sevierville, TN.  We stayed at the lovely Wilderness Resort at the Smokies.  It is the home of the Wild Water Dome, which is supposed to be the largest indoor water park in the region... and it IS pretty big.  Good thing it is indoors, too, as it was a chilly weekend and we really enjoyed playing in the various water features.
But, as I was pulling the 2,000 pound cart, loaded with everything a 5 year old or a 1/5 year old could need for a life on the road, I began … (2 comments)

vacation: Failure to Launch... - 06/16/09 02:17 PM
As many of my FaceBook friends and Twitter followers have been well aware, my family and I went down to Florida for Saturday's failed Space Shuttle launch.
It was a long and somewhat frustrating trip... driving down with two small kids and a dog presented some challenges... as did getting the camper packed up for the trip.  The result was that we didn't leave Atlanta until Friday afternoon.  We arrived at the campground in Titusville, FL at almost 1:00am... with tired kids, annoyed parrents and a dog that was ready to run...  Our 8 hour trip took about 12 hours.
And … (4 comments)

vacation: How to kick your blog in the nuts in one easy step. - 11/15/08 09:26 AM
1.  Don't post for a week.
That is it, it is that easy.
The plan was that we would have internet access in Orlando when we went down for the NAR Convention/DisneyWorld/Bloodhound Unchained.  The plan failed... no internet access at the condo as the owner had promised.
The idea that we had as we were driving down last Tuesday night was to hang out at the pool and rest on Wednesday.  I would write my blog posts and stage them for the rest of the week.  It was a great plan.  Too bad it didn't work.
Last week my readership went … (12 comments)

vacation: I'm baaacckkkk! - 11/13/08 10:01 AM
I know that some of you missed me.  Others were hoping that I lost my laptop.  Well. I'm back.
While we had made plans to have internet access at the townhome we rented, we didn't actually have access except through mobile phone modems.  They were amazingly slow.  So, there weren't comments and posts as scheduled.  Sorry.
But, as of last night we are back in town, more tired than when we left, and recharged.  Disney World says Hi...
I will be writing about Bloodhound Unchained, as well as stuff I learned on the floor of the NAR Convention EXPO.  I will … (14 comments)

vacation: Dirty things you can do to your... - 10/01/08 11:42 PM
camper.
In honor of camping for a few days, I thought I would post up my Video Sunday videos from this past week...  I even managed to get a comment from Matt Heaton on this one (on my "other blog").
I've been wanting to buy a camper... just a simple pop-up to take the family out in for a little camping. Instead, I got to buy a new fridge because the old one committed suicide. Not exactly the plan... but life happens.
So, I grabbed a few videos of dirty campers...
No, that isn't exactly what I had in mind. … (9 comments)

vacation: It's time... - 10/01/08 11:10 PM
Each year around this time, I get out of town for a couple of days, hang out with the guys and camp.
It is that time of year again... and I am ready to go.
Despite that fact that I am running registration again (ok, I run the club that is running registration and people yell at me)... I think it is relaxing.  Aside from the few minutes I'll actually work, I get to hang out with a lot of cool people, make some hilarious jokes and see some groovy junk Jeeps and trucks.  And even the working is groovy because … (10 comments)

vacation: Stone Mountain Chili Cook Off... Saturday Sept. 27th - 09/25/08 09:45 PM
It's that time of year again.
From the Stone Mountain Park website:

The Chili Cook-Off draws more than 300 teams competing for “Best Of”, “People’s Choice” and “Showmanship” awards in competition categories such as Chili, Brunswick Stew and Cornbread. More than $10,000 in prize money is awarded. Sample the great food and participate in a variety of contests. The event’s proceeds support Camp Twin Lakes, a non-profit that offers year-round recreational, therapeutic and educational programs for children facing serious illnesses and other physical, emotional and life … (4 comments)

vacation: Going to NAR in Orlando? - 09/03/08 12:41 AM
Yes and no...
I knew this would happen.  Being in Orlando, this year, with me in Atlanta, it is only a short drive away (yes, I call 10 hours a short drive).  Also, being in Orlando, I was pretty sure that "I" would not be going... it would be "we."  Also, I knew that if "we" went, that "we" would be going to DisneyWorld.  In the last case, "we" meant "them."
I got into real estate because I love being with my family.  I was in retail previously, and worked 12 hours a day, 6 days a week... somewhere else.  Now, … (46 comments)

vacation: Priorities - 04/30/08 11:31 PM
I wish I had the pictures.
I've been pretty lucky.
When I was growing up, we had exchange students... several.  The first two came from Ecuador.  We didn't have them at the same time, they were one after the other.  But they were also best friends.  Fernanda was the first one.  He parents came to visit while she was staying with us.  Our families became close.  In fact, Fernanda's brother, Patricio, lived with us for a year a bit later.  Gina was next.  She was Fernanda's best friend.  A couple of months after Gina went back to Ecuador, we went … (4 comments)

vacation: 219 MPH in Phoenix... Unbelieveable!!! - 11/29/07 02:41 PM
If you think I could let this one go, you have another think... And it is coming as fast as this thing was going.
For the second "video in a blog" post I HAVE to put this one up. The only connection to real estate is that I found it posted on Jay Thompson's (The Phoenix Real Estate Guy) blog. If you are looking for real estate in Phoenix, give Jay a shout... or give me a shout and I'll send a referral.  Jay is a fellow Active Rainer, as well as a good guy.  I know he's going to find … (8 comments)

vacation: Thinking of visiting Las Vegas? - 11/15/07 09:48 AM
Today is my last day here. I'll be hopping on the "red-eye" tonight and arriving back in Atlanta tomorrow morning. Look for my post tomorrow to be a little late...So, what do I think of Vegas? Well, I've had a great time so far. It is a beautiful city, but not without its warts. Now, I can't talk about the areas away from the strip... because I have only been in the tourist zone, but the first thing that strikes me as a wart is the strip traffic. If hasn't affected me much, as I've walked almost everywhere. However, I've seen … (2 comments)

vacation: Free, Free, FREE... Nifty open source photo editor - 10/08/07 07:04 PM
So, without getting real wordy about how I came across this (it all has to do with the new website), let me tell you about a cool open source photo-editor I just came across.
It is called the GIMP.  That stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program.  GNU is one of the open source licensing protocols.  I guess it would be best summed up as the open source equivalent of PhotoShop.
If you aren't familiar with open source, it is a movement (sorry, but it really is) of mostly software geeks and engineers that create programs and then allow anyone to … (22 comments)
