experience: It Takes Time Become Successful...About 10,000 Hours - 08/07/09 07:27 AM
There are no self-made men...everyone has to work and work hard...to be successful.
In addition to being famous, successful and wealthy...what do Wayne Gretzky, The Beatles and Bill Gates have in common?
No...it's not their talent...what else?
They all worked hard...very hard to achieve their levels of success.
How hard is hard? About 10,000 hours of actual work and practice, according to Malcolm Gladwell, in his book Outliers The Stories of Success.
But in addition to their talents, these people all had what Gladwell calls special opportunities.
Star Hockey Players
Elite hockey players like Wayne Gretzky had their talents recognized early..and … (4 comments)

experience: What Was Your Greatest Personal Marketing Experience? - 07/10/09 07:15 AM
What have you learned from your experience that will help you and other people like you?
Learning From Experience

Although I haven't done it in a while, I really enjoy conducting live training sessions.
To me, there are few educational events that are as energizing and exciting as a group of adults ready and willing to share their experiences.
The learning opportunity...both individually and collectively...is huge.
As a facilitator, I love helping people draw on their life experience as learning opportunities.
Any experience, whether good or bad, can only be made better by learning from it...especially if others can … (0 comments)

experience: Blogging: Ideas, Experience and Learning Opportunities - 06/19/09 06:13 AM
Blogging allows you to play with ideas, share your experience and benefit from some rich learning opportunities.
This being my 150th blog post, it's appropriate to reflect on my blogging experience. (Yes I know...the numbers show that this is only #148. I deleted 2 posts re-use the content for other purposes.)
In a nutshell...I love blogging.
Playing With Ideas
Sometimes it's fun just to play with ideas and see where the writing process takes them.
That is what happened yesterday.
That post was intended as a fun piece about chickens in the backyard but ended up as a more … (5 comments)

experience: The Best Experience Gets Even Better When It's Shared - 06/08/09 06:37 AM
Whether through a great marketing achievement or unique website, we all win when we share our experiences with others.
2 New Features
Over the past ten days I have added 2 new features to my website.
The first was the feature that allowed you to tell me..and visitors to my site...about your greatest marketing achievement.
The second invited you to submit your website for a free website site review...and possible inclusion as a featured site on my website.
Both elements are based on my fundamental belief that the best experience gets even better when it is shared.
Sharing experience … (1 comments)

experience: How Your Experience Can Help You Learn More...And Offer More Value To Clients - 04/08/09 06:37 AM
Add value to your client service by helping them learn from your experience.
Continuous Learning
Continuous learning is not a strategy that I faithfully follow. I really don't have to...it is so much a part of my way of being in the world that it just happens...automatically and instinctively.
The concept of continuous learning first entered my consciousness soon after I completed my formal education and started my first full-time job.
It was then that I first became aware of the joy of learning what interested me...instead of what was necessary to pass exams.
That first full time job was the … (1 comments)

experience: Experience Can't Teach You Anything...But You Can Learn A Lot From It - 02/25/09 06:35 AM
The best experiences offer great learning opportunities...but you have to learn these lessons yourself.
As a charter member of the 'I Hate Clichés Club'
I'm always happy to deny the truth of a cliché whenever I can.
So it gives me great pleasure to say that the cliché...'Experience Is The Best Teacher'...is simply not true.
Defining The Terms
By definition an experience is 'encountering or undergoing something'...perhaps encountering bad weather on vacation...or undergoing a slow market.
Similarly, by definition, teaching is 'giving instruction' and a teacher is 'an instructor or someone who gives instruction.'
Logically, and event simply cannot 'give … (4 comments)

experience: Who Wants To Be A (Slumdog) Millionaire? - 01/25/09 07:35 AM
If this is something that appeals to you, better fasten your seat-belt...it's going to be a very bumpy ride.
You will also need resourcefulness, experience and luck.
The Right Kind of Resourcefulness
This kind of resourcefulness is necessary to help overcome the multitude of adversity that life throws at us.
Jamal, the central character in Slumdog Millionaire, nominated for 10 academy awards, including best picture, faced more than his share of adversity.
But somehow regardless of the nature or extend of the adversity, he was able to draw upon his own resourcefulness to overcome the adversity.
I doubt that resourcefulness … (2 comments)
