Once upon a time...perhaps as late as 2003 or 2004...owners of small businesses did their strategic planning on cycles of 3-5 years.
With their strategic plans in place, they prepared annual business and marketing plans.
These annual plans were intended as help move individual businesses toward their ultimate 3 or 5 year goal.
As the economy changed, so did the planning cycle...down to 1-3 years.
Annual business and marketing plans continued to define the specific actions to be taken to achieve the longer term goals.
