success: Real Estate Marketing Success Can Be Learned - 11/10/11 06:22 AM

“Are the most successful real estate agents natural sales people...or can people who don't like to sell learn how to succeed in real estate?”

That was one of the first questions that I was asked when I started working in real estate marketing.

My immediate response was that virtually any reasonably intelligent and motivated individual can learn how to be successful.

After all, the principles and strategies of success can be learned.

Although we didn't discuss it, I believe the real intent behind the question was: why do some people seem to achieve their goals … (3 comments)

success: A Success-Focused Sidetrip - 03/12/10 05:41 AM
As you are no doubt aware, over the past few months my blogs posts have featured a variety of success-related themes.
A Planned Journey
This has not been accidental.
Nor has it been totally unrelated to the theme of real estate marketing.
Towards the end of last year, it was becoming increasingly difficult for me to find fresh approaches to the topic of real estate marketing. I'm sure that many people can write about real estate marketing forever. For better or worse, I am not one of them.
I was beginning feel that when writing about real estate marketing, instead … (4 comments)

success: Celebrate Your Top Success - 03/08/10 06:21 AM
Celebrate your top success...and then build on it to achieve even greater success.
Think about some of the successes that you have achieved over the past 5-10 years.
It really doesn't matter whether the success was in your work, business or personal life.
All that matters is that you achieved your goals and brought about your desired results. As you savor your achievements, remember to take full responsibility for your successes.
What Was Your Top Success?
Now that you are in a success frame of mind, think about which of your achievements represents your top success. Which single act of … (6 comments)

success: Why Not Everyone Achieves The Results They Visualize - 09/28/09 06:37 AM
Last week I wrote several posts about success and achieving your goals.
As Brian Madigan  pointed out
“...the series of posts you are writing now, are easily going to fit together as a very good book “
True enough..but I have several editing projects to look after first.
Sooner or later, these...and similar posts will indeed find their way into book.
A Limitation On Visualizing
Success Before proceeding further into this series, it is important to recognize the serious limitation of the ideas presented in these blog posts.
As appealing and inspirational that motivational speaking and writing can be, … (3 comments)

success: The Law Of Attraction Is Attractive, But.... - 09/24/09 06:25 AM
Once again a comment in response to one of my blog posts has been the catalyst for another blog post.
In his comment responding to my post about visualization   Rajeev Narula  wrote:
“I want to hear about Law of Attraction too...”
Since I come across the idea from time to time, I decided to learn more about the Law of Attraction.
For me there is no better way to learn about a topic than to plan to write about it.
According to Robert Wilson, a motivational speaker:
“The latest fad in motivation is the Law of Attraction...The idea is … (7 comments)

success: Dream Big...Or Stay Home - 09/23/09 05:07 AM
We all need to dream big.
Turning our big dreams into reality requires setting goals that are based on our dreams.
Then we must follow a path that will lead us to these goals.
One Step At A Time
Climbing a mountain by staring up at the top of it makes the task of achieving that goal appear overwhelming and impossible.
However, by focusing on taking one step at a time we can get to the top.
While it's important to keep our goals firmly set in our minds, our primary focus should be on navigating the path that will … (4 comments)

success: Visualize The Success You Desire - 09/22/09 05:35 AM
The outcomes that we want don't happen by just reacting to what’s going on around us and letting people tell us what we have to do.
We have to visualize everyday.
If we can't visualize what we want to achieve, we can't make it happen.
We must be very clear about the results we want to achieve.
If you can help clients visualize their future, that means that you are comfortable with each other. When clients can tell you what kind of future they want, you will better understand how you can help them.
Imagine Your Journey Of Greatness
Everyone … (33 comments)

success: Good Marketing Whets Prospects' Appetites - 08/03/09 07:34 AM
Marketing means different things to different people.
To most sales people, marketing and promotion mean much the same thing.
Regardless of which term is used, it refers to virtually everything that is done to promote a business.
Unfortunately, this understanding ignores the importance of two elements that are critical factors in successful marketing.
Marketing Includes Research
Market research allows you to identify who and where your clients are...as well as what they need, want and expect from you.
Without this knowledge, it would be difficult, if not impossible to prepare promotional activities that connect effectively with prospective clients.
By default, … (2 comments)

success: 3 Ways To Avoid Creating Problems For Yourself - 07/31/09 06:17 AM
In order to clear our to-do lists and achieve the results we seek, we often create more problems than we solve...or make some problems worse.
I know this happens...I've done it...too many times.
Confirming that experience is indeed the best teacher, I offer 3 three experienced-based suggestions to minimize your inconvenience from self-created problems.
1. Think about what you are doing
Sometimes we have to perform tasks that seem like no-brainers.
This is particularly true of filling the blanks on forms.
Sometimes the answer is so obvious that we don't need to think about it.
We automatically drop the … (3 comments)

success: The Key(s) To Success In Real Estate: Part II - 05/12/09 07:38 AM

In my earlier post...The Key To Success In Real Estate: Part I  ...I drew upon last night's episode of The Agents (W Network, available only in Canada) to identify hard work the key to success in real estate and also in life.
Realistically that is but one starting point to succeeding in real estate.
Many factors contribute to success.
To learn more about these factors and how you can apply them check out Get Focused on Real Estate Success.
That blog entry appears on Build Real Estate Results, which is a really helpful website for the real estate industry.

success: The Key To Success In Real Estate: Part I - 05/12/09 07:12 AM
The key to success is hard work, but there area no guarantees. Episode 3 of The Agents featured return appearances by Sally Cook the 'pro' agent from Episode 1 and Katie Abey, the 'rookie' from Episode 2.
The Best Price
On reflecting on her early days in real estate, Sally commented that for many years, there was virtually no family life...looking after the business dominated everything.
Sally's clients were a young couple searching for their first home, which they wanted to purchase before they got married.

In serving her clients, Sally uses her skills to help her clients get … (3 comments)

success: How To Overcome Obstacles To Success - 03/24/09 05:45 AM
We can overcome cultural obstacles to success.
Stories Of Success
In my March 7 post I referred to the suggestion that 10,000 hours' experience is necessary for success.
That was one of many conclusions that Malcolm Gladwell reached in his book Outliers The Stories Of Success.
He also also introduced the concept of cultural legacy and how sometimes it helps people achieve success success...and other times it is an obstacle to success.
As Gladwell uses the term, cultural legacy refers to the attitudes toward work that we acquire from our ancestors.
The positive influence of this cultural legacy can be seen … (1 comments)

success: What Is Your Desire? - 03/09/09 06:34 AM
Understanding what you and your clients desire is a critical success factor in life and in real estate.
A Pleasant Travel Companion
I really enjoy train travel.
There's nothing quite like sitting back on a train, watching the scenery slide by...and enjoying a book and a personal sound system such as an i-pod or MP3 player.
Add an interesting travel companion and you have the perfect ingredients for a great journey.
These were the conditions I enjoyed on my last train trip from Toronto. When I boarded the train there were no window seats...so I took an aisle seat beside … (1 comments)

success: Don't Look For Coincidences In Life: Every Effect Has Its Cause - 03/08/09 07:33 AM
Analyze what your your thoughts and feelings were when you succeed and when you failed.
Then draw your own deductions.
Birth Dates Between January & March
In my post about needing 10,000 hours to become successful, I referred to special opportunities that elite hockey players like Wayne Gretzky enjoy.
In his book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell illustrates this by listing the rosters...including players' birth dates... of two top ranked hockey teams.
One is the 2007 Medicine Hat Tigers, which played in the Championship game of the Canadian Hockey League, considered the finest junior hockey league in the world.
These players' birth … (1 comments)
