Apparently Kathleen Sebelius is not at all disappointed with not being picked for the VP slot. She seems more focused on Kansas wind and alternative energy. Kansas now gets 10% of its energy from wind farms. They could get a little more wind and heat from Denver right now, and from Minneapolis next week too :-) Everyone has to endure hours of flying over nowhere in particular in usually bad weather to get there so the brave souls will need some nice hotel facilities and Minneapolis has plenty. This has absolutely no impact on homes in Wichita but the outcome may...

Fannie Mae said goodbye to its CFO and two other top executives. Goodbye AOL. That's right Stephen Swad, who just joined last year from AOL is loading up his Fannie pack and heading off to "other opportunities in private equity". He'll be replaced by a three-year-old (with the company). Others are retiring, etc. Most of the new blood isn't really new at all - insiders moving up. Homes in Wichita and homes in Andover are likely to experience much direct impact from this "change" but more significant changes at Fannie and Freddie could be a different story... … (0 comments)

Home prices are up 3.34 percent the past year according to the Wichita State University Center for Real Estate. The city responded to Sedgwick County request for discussions about arena redevelopment by repealing an ordinance that established a TIF district, voiding a construction agreement, etc. etc. so it can make nice to the county and have scheduled talks. Back to the drawing board... Mayor Brewer gave a speech worthy of any politician, but he's correct in expressing that not building a great downtown image and attractive features, can place Wichita on the slow track for drawing new interest and business. Wichita unemployment moved upward from 4.5% in July, 2007 to 4.7% this July. This follows a nationwide trend. Homes in Wichita markets will of course be proportionally impacted by any respective change in employment. Thus the good news for real estate in Wichita is borne by good news at Spirit AeroSystems Inc. who wiill design and manufacture fuselages for Cessna. The company will builda 375,000 sq. ft. factory. 700 new jobs are expected to be created.
