frederick county: The Entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Frederick Maryland - 07/17/10 11:01 AM
Almost daily I post a story on my facebook page, Larry's home info, about a new business startup in Frederick county.
I am so proud of those brave souls who, despite all the negative media, venture out to accomplish their dreams. They are varied in their nature from marriage and family therapy to a specialty shop selling imported oil and vinegar. You can even catch a relaxing eco-friendly pedi-cab ride through Baker Park if you like. It's obvious that some of our citizens see clearly a solution that our politicians can't. I think Thomas Jefferson put it aptly: "The democracy will cease to … (2 comments)

frederick county: The "spirit" of the law - 03/11/10 07:01 AM
I was struck by an article in our local newspaper the Frederick News Post this morning. A local radio host, Blaine Young was criticized for not giving up his radio show when recently appointed to the position of Frederick County commissioner.
Here's my issue. Blaine Young was appointed to this post after a sitting commissioner stepped down. Now commissioner Young agreed to step down from his show when he files to run for the post in the fall. However there is no law the requires that he stop broadcasting in his current position. The headline in the paper reads "Local Democrats … (5 comments)

frederick county: Politics, Human Nature and the Lust for Power! - 12/15/09 07:37 AM
Although this post was prompted by an article here in the Frederick News Post it actually represents a trend that, while always with us, seems to be increasing exponentially.
At issue here in Frederick County Maryland is an ordinance passed by the Frederick County Commissioners that would interfere with the municipalities right to determine their own growth policies. The emphasis from the commissioners is that growth policies within the municipalities can have an adverse effect on residents of the county. The primary concern expressed was overcrowding of schools. School overcrowding is a hot issue here but many would argue it has … (1 comments)

frederick county: Special program for REO purchases in Frederick County Maryland - 06/10/09 10:21 AM
Thinking of buying in Frederick County? There is a special new program about to come on line to purchase REO properties in Frederick County. The program is funded by the federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) in conjunction with the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development's Neighborhood Conservation Initiative. This program is for bank owned properties in specific targeted areas in Frederick County.
The program gives loans from $15,000 - $25,000. These are 0% interest loans for owner occupied purchases and the loans are forgiven after 15 years. The specifics will be posted on the Frederick County website at www.co.frederick.md.us/nci  Although … (0 comments)

frederick county: Doom and Gloom is Dumb and Glum! - 01/10/09 02:04 PM
This past Thursday we just had our monthly luncheon for the Frederick County Association of Realtors. Our featured speaker was a representative from a local bank/mortgage lender. He had some interesting statistics to share.
First: Did you know it's been 37 years since interest rates were this low?
Second: Were you also aware that the percentage of monthly income spent for a mortgage hasn't been this low since 1973?
Third: I certainly hope, by now that you all know there is a $7,500 first time buyer tax credit available which doesn't expire until June '09.
Fourth: Are you familiar with the … (2 comments)

frederick county: What do you mean, you can't get a loan? - 12/09/08 03:01 PM
I keep hearing about a credit freeze on the news. I watch several different financial shows on cable and I often hear that no one can get credit. I'm not a real complicated guy so I asked some of the lenders I deal with. They looked at me like I'm crazy. I look at our office's sale board and sales just keep happening. I've been pretty brutally criticized in the past for "spinning" the news to make the Realtors look good. Well I have a few problems with some of my critics. Here they are.
Rates are great!

frederick county: Frederick County real estate - It's not what the media says! Is yours? - 08/18/08 03:49 PM
I was just on a local Frederick County site and came across an article by a reporter who is also a friend of mine. It was on the phenomenal number if foreclosures and short sales in the Frederick County real estate market. In the article he cited an interview with a well known and well respected appraiser. This appraiser tends to really tell it like it is. I suppose that's why he's so popular. The problem, as all the Realtors reading this know, is that he only sees one side of things while we have to have an overview.
We currently have … (13 comments)
