Bears in Lexington SC...oh my! Yesterday a young bear was spotted a mile or so from my home. This is right on the shores of Lake Murray in Lexington South Carolina near downtown and city limits. It is unusual to see a bear in the midlands of South Carolina as its not really there range.
Bear sightings have increased over the last few years as it seems the population is growing. SCDNR Say's this is the time of year Mother Bears chase off the cubs to start a new life. And the cubs wonder about to find there own home range.

Lexington South Carolina, Lexington Interfaith Community Services (LICS)
Its that time again for the for the popular FUNdraiser that LICS hosts every year. This will be the thirteenth year for this awesome event. Shagging for LICS will be held at our Lexington High School from 6:30 PM to 11:00 PM.
The evening will include shag lessons (for those that don't know how to do our state dance) and music from Charles Gatch and the Swing Set Band. Also there will be a silent auction, door prizes and plenty of food and drink.

Wow can you imagine hunting in 94 degrees. South Carolina has the longest deer season in the nation in the 28 lower counties. Season is open from August 15 to January 1 every year. Lexington County is one of the open counties for August 15. Its a time honored tradition for the southern gentleman to take this day to have fellowship with his fellow hunters. Some counties take the whole day off and school attendance is low as the hunting fellowship bounds.

Lexington County hopes to save money and pave more miles with an new alternative paving method.
If the plan translates into savings the county could double or triple the amount of dirt roads it paved last year. We currently pay to maintain about 700 miles of dirt road.
The new method would cause narrower and rougher streets than traditional paving but would be better than that Old dirt road!
The new road method is done by scattering three thin alternating layers of liquid asphalt and small rock. Using larger stones on the bottom and smaller up top.
