CNN Money recently reported a national U.S. home vacancy rate of 11.4%. The report told of high residential vacancies killing the housing markets in addition to depressing sale prices and overall property values.
The report told that Maine had the highest vacancy rate of 22.8% with Vermont at 20.5% and Florida, Arizona & Alaska came in between 15.9% to 17.5% However it was noted in the report that these statistics tend to also include second homes, vacation homes and the like...which can hardly be compared to foreclosure listings in the housing market. Still, this article made me wonder as to what other Realtors are seeing. We are the ones out and about showing & listing homes for sale in the current housing market.
So my question for everyone is what are YOU seeing in your area at this specific time and what is your prediction for the next three critical months of the housing market? Please be sure to let us know at least what state you are in...and preferably what region of the state. I'm particularly interested in our good old state of North Carolina..but welcome other information as well.
