lisa long: The House that Jack Built... - 10/31/08 05:08 AM
Always use good judgment and get everything in writing when using a licensed contractor.centralCAliving.com

When you have a home built or are dealing with CONTRACTORS...
Or, cleaning up after a storm....
Getting a JACK OF ALL TRADES can be devastating. With so many "iffy" contractors pouring in to help clean up after IKE, we must all be very, very careful.
1. Interview a minimum of three licensed contractors.
2. Get everything in writing.
3. Remember the specifics like quality of tile and paint.
4. Require them to provide you with a copy of their license.
5. Check references.

lisa long: Please LOOK - Have You Seen These Missing Teens? Sherwood Oregon, October 2008 - 10/31/08 04:51 AM

ATTENTION... Missing Teens.  Have you seen these boys?  If you have ANY information, please call the Sherwood Oregon Police Department at 503.629.0111
As a parent my thoughts, heart and prayers go out to these families in our Sherwood Oregon community who are desperately seeking any information on the whereabouts of their children.
Santiago Javier Trejo "Santi" and his friend Kyle Thomas Bridges "Clyde Bridges or Kyle Lowe" both students in Sherwood Oregon went missing this week in the early morning hours on their way to school.  They have not been seen since.
If you or anyone you know may have seen … (2 comments)

This is great! It answered many questions and and was easy to understand. "You Blog"is a new blog group for those of you looking or visit my website for more info on Real Estate

This may not be new ground for most veteran members, but if you are new to the site, you will probably find this information very helpful.
I first started blogging back in 2004 on another website, although it was not for business at all.  Rather, it was just an assortment of personal stories and opinions.  I guess not all that much has changed since then - I … (4 comments)

lisa long: I Voted Today, Have You? - 10/31/08 02:39 AM
I don't care your views or who you vote for. Okay really I do. But the POINT IS VOTE! www.centralCAliving.com

I voted today, have you voted yet?  My husband and I had a little time to spare this morning, so we decided to go ahead and head up to the Collin County Community College and vote.
It was a little awkward since we don't really talk politics in our house.  We're two very strong-headed people and we're both NEVER wrong.  It's been brought up a couple of times, but no real opinions were given about the people, though we did talk about the … (1 comments)

lisa long: Why Mortgage Rates Haven't Fallen As Expected - 10/31/08 02:24 AM
What some buyers do not understand is even if home prices slightly fall if interest slightly increases they will be paying a higher monthly mortgage! Its a great time to buy a rental property if you have the resources. www.centralcalivin.com

When the government nationalized mortgage lending in September, housing analysts predicted lower mortgage rates.
For a brief two-week stint, they were right -- post-takeover, the 30-year, fixed rate mortgage fell below 6.000 percent nationally for the first time in 7 months.
Since then, however, mortgage markets have reversed.  Rates are now at pre-takeover levels.
Now, this isn't to say that … (0 comments)

lisa long: Over 10 posts in week, no automatic 200 points - 10/30/08 02:02 AM
Does anyone out there know or better understand the point system? I'm not a blogger to be #2 or #3  in my city most of the time, but it is one of the advantages of being addicted to AR. I have had and I feel also offered some useful advice at times. I recently checked my points and found several posts, I think 3 were not automatic points. Will I ever receive credit for my posts Or is there a person who looks at these to make sure I'm real and posting theses myself? Then they give the points? I would … (3 comments)

lisa long: Search Engines, Networking,What Really Works? - 10/29/08 04:20 PM
In this market where services can be competitive it helps to have the upper hand. Yahoo and Google are great search engines, but there is so much more. Everyone should be on Craigslist and Realtor.comThere is Your Company site mine is www.KW.com Every agent needs their own website, see mine at centralcaliving.comBut there are hundreds you can choose from. Make sure you have pictures and video it will attract more buyers. I started a blog group on Active Rain called "You Blog". Networking is so important and you meet some really great people. I have actually referred someone from AR, so it does work.

lisa long: The Lord Listens and Answers our Prayers!-Stage 4 Cancer Gone! This is a PRAISE REPORT!!!!!!!!!! - 10/29/08 02:44 PM
The Lord Listens and Answers our Prayers sometimes even faster than we expect. I was in my "warrior mom" prayer group today and we asked not only for Kevin to be in remission but for him to be completely healed and all the cancer to be gone. I know with stage 4 cancer That Jesus would be the one Physician who could do this miracle. Four hours later Kevin Called to say the rest of the cancer in his neck is gone. He had just found out! He will continue treatment until around Thanksgiving, but be off long before his end of December … (12 comments)

Are repairs a waste of money? (edit/delete)
By Dian HymerIn a perfect world, houses wouldn't deteriorate over time. In reality, the wear begins as soon as a house is built. Older houses tend to have more maintenance issues. But even new homes can develop problems within a few years if they were poorly constructed. Most homes are inspected for damage caused by wood pests -- such as dry rot, termites, fungus, decay and wood-boring beetles -- before they are sold. Who pays to correct the damage -- buyer or seller -- is often subject to negotiation. In a hot seller's market with … (0 comments)

Another Depression or a Back to the Basics Economy (edit/delete)
I won't pretend to have lived during the depression and quite frankly I'm thankful I didn't. From what I've heard about that time in history we have a long long way to go before we will even be close to a depression. First off housing was much more scarce and the unemployment rate was higher. There was a shortage of food and no kids had $200 cell phones or $80 shoes. Which brings me to the fact that some kids actually went to school with out shoes! Yes, my family … (1 comments)

"I can't thank Lisa enough for all that she did to help us with our home purchase.  She was always on top of everything and communicated with us daily to keep us informed.  She was very professional, yet always personable and down to earth.  She even made the home buying experience easier on my children who were tired of being dragged everywhere!  It is so nice to find an agent who is honest and hardworking. "

10 Home Finance Mistakes You Can't Afford
Most advice columns tell you what you should do, but just as importantly, there some things you shouldn't do. Here are 10 frequent home finance mistakes that consumers make - and that you should avoid.
Don't choose the wrong mortgage: With the advent of instant refinancing, home loans are no longer the lifetime obligations they used to be. Still, you don't want to be saddled for even a short period of time with the wrong mortgage.Investigate all your options, then lay your choices side-by-side and do the math, making sure to compare worst-case … (2 comments)

10 Steps to House Hunting with a Well-Trained Eye
It sounds like a great listing - in your price range - in a good neighborhood - with features you're looking for. First impressions mean a lot - but you find the bushes are overgrown, the front hallway is covered with tacky foil wallpaper, the kitchen cabinets are painted dark brown, the living room rug smells musty, and the hardwood floors have black water marks on them.
Should you head back out the door? Maybe. But to fully determine whether you should cross this house off of your list you'll need to … (2 comments)
