One of my elderly clients in my seniors real estate business had accumulated about 35 partially used cans of paint.  She asked me if I would dispose of the old paint according to the rules and services in Rapid City.  I said, "Sure!", without having the slightest idea what to do next.  

So I loaded it in my pickup and took it home, so that, at least the client could continue her stellar progress in preparing her home so I could sell it for her.

I called the Public Works Department at City Hall and asked them for advice.  In fact, I asked the engineer, "Where and how do you dispose of old paint?"  She said, it's simple and easy.  Just "mix it with something solid, like dirt, then let it dry out."  Later, then, I am supposed to just place it in the trash dumpster as with any other form of trash headed to the City landfill.  She also told me to let the cans dry out with the lids off, then place them in the recycle as appropriate.

That sure was easy.  Next time I have a client who wants to prepare a home for sale and wants to dispose of old paint, we can rent a cement mixer and work up a nice slurry of rainbow colored dirt!
