Speechless Sunday in the Murphy, NC mountians - 02/26/12 07:33 AM

Speechless Sunday in the Murphy, NC mountains. This photo is one from a grand old home located just down the road from Murphy, NC and still in Cherokee County in the town of Marble. My what a grand home it must have been back then. Even now with time wearing down on it you can still imagine how filled with family and neighbors it must have been.
Marble is between Andrews and Murphy and this photo was take by our Coldwell Banker High Country Murphy, NC office assistant, Amanda McGaha. Besides being there for all our agents, she is … (10 comments)

The Mountain Living Team in Murphy, NC had Back-to-Back Closings today! - 02/24/12 11:42 AM
The Mountain Living Team in Murphy, NC had a back-to-back closing today. The Roberts had their cabin listed with us at Coldwell Banker High Country and we’d also been showing them larger homes in the Murphy area for their anticipated offer and move.

Well, we got their residence under contract so it was really time to get busy, narrow down the list and find them the right new home to move in to. They absolutely love the area and wanted to stay within a few miles of the very desirable subdivisions just minutes to downtown Murphy, NC.

Celebrating President's Day in Murphy, NC - 02/20/12 06:28 AM
Monday is a holiday honoring President's Day. You won't be able to do any banking or post letters, but you can stop by our office in Murphy, NC and we can show you some of our great listings!
Here are some interesting facts about our Presidents...Once in the White House, each President made his mark in different ways. In fact, before Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President, came to office, the White House wasn't even called the White House! People called the building the President's Palace, President's House, and the Executive Mansion. Roosevelt officially named it the White House in 1901.Theodore … (4 comments)

Another Speechless Sunday in the Murphy, NC Mountains...
As you drive along some of the back roads in the Murphy, NC and surrounding mountains every once in a while you’ll see a testament of stone, brick or river rock. What stories and memories have these lone sentinels out along the western North Carolina mountainside pastures and fields have from year’s gone by?
These are part of our scenery here in Cherokee County, NC and although Murphy, NC has grown into one of the most desirable destinations to move to, we still have that small town, easy going lifestyle of “living … (5 comments)

We finally made it into our "dream home in the mountains" of Murphy, NC - 02/15/12 06:57 PM
We finally made it into our "dream home in the mountains" of Murphy, NC thanks to the tremendous help of Lee Barbour.
Even before we were in a position to buy a home here, we made contact with Lee through his office. He was aware that we were not ready to buy at that time, but I'm sure he went out of his way to answer our questions and concerns about the process.
Of course when the time did come for us to for our new home, Lee was the one we wanted to work with. Lee lead us … (7 comments)

Happy Vintage Valentine’s Day from the Murphy, NC Mountains - 02/14/12 08:35 AM
Happy Valentine’s Day from the Murphy, NC Mountains.During the late 1800s, postage rates around the world dropped, and the obscene St. Valentine's Day card became popular, despite the Victorian era being otherwise very prudish.  As the numbers of racy valentines grew, several countries banned the practice of exchanging Valentine's Day cards.  During this period, Chicago's post office rejected more than 25,000 cards on the grounds that they were so indecent, they were not fit to be carried through the U.S. mail.  In Victorian times it was considered bad luck to sign a Valentine's Day card.  Here are a few not-too racy … (4 comments)

Another Speechless Sunday in the Murphy, NC Mountains...
We’ve finally started to get some winter weather here in Cherokee County, NC and at some of the higher elevations they can get much more snow than the valleys and downtown Murphy, NC.  The views from this cabin of the snow topped mountains are amazing - as they are during all the four mild seasons we get to enjoy living here in the western NC, north GA and east TN mountains. In fact, you can actually see all three states from up here on the mountain ridge.

Cherokee Legends - How The Milky Way Came To Be - 02/10/12 09:48 AM

Cherokee LegendsHow The Milky Way Came To Be Long ago when the world was young, there were not many stars in the sky.In those days the people depended on corn for their food. Dried corn could be made into corn meal by placing it inside a large hollowed stump and pounding it with a long wooden pestle. The cornmeal was stored in large baskets. During the winter, the ground meal could be made into bread and mush.

One morning an older man and his wife went to their storage basket for some cornmeal. They discovered that someone or something … (4 comments)
