Speechless Sunday in the western NC mountains and just over the NC/GA state line we came across this little guy - hey, don’t call him shorty!
Well, whatever his name was he was the cutest and curious little horse. I guess he could still see us with all that mane because he kept following us back and forth the fence line. There are some great Farms and Horse Properties here in the mountains!

Come on out to the Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 11:00-4:00, for the Stecoah Ramp Festival. They’ll be hosting a full-on festival for the 50th anniversary of celebrating ramps in Graham County. Ramps add a wonderful and uniquely pungent flavor to soups, egg dishes, casseroles, rice dishes and potato dishes. One of our favorite ways to have them is baked in cornbread muffins! Here in Murphy, NC the story goes that once a young Cherokee Indian brave was out hunting with his dog and a flash flood came upon them and separated them. Later, when the young brave went back looking for his dog he came upon him high up in a tree, safely hanging on up in the branches. So this area was then called Hanging Dog.
Cherokee County, NC has roads, communities, bike trails, campgrounds and many other locations named after Hanging Dog. Many of the communities, lakes and rivers are named after Cherokee Indian names. see what the word Nantahala … (2 comments)

Even though we might not be out at some of the many Lakes around Murphy, NC swimming or canoeing; it’s still a great place to get out and take a nice walk around the lake and over the dam where we took this photo.

There are only a few signs left here in Murphy, NC mountains of the gorgeous Fall season we’ve had. It was so beautiful and this years autumn hues were better than a lot of people thought they’d be. We really had bunches of “leaf lookers” here visiting and taking some road trips to enjoy them too.
