nc mountains: Speechless Sunday in the Murphy, NC mountians - 02/26/12 07:33 AM
Speechless Sunday in the Murphy, NC mountains. This photo is one from a grand old home located just down the road from Murphy, NC and still in Cherokee County in the town of Marble. My what a grand home it must have been back then. Even now with time wearing down on it you can still imagine how filled with family and neighbors it must have been. Marble is between Andrews and Murphy and this photo was take by our Coldwell Banker High Country Murphy, NC office assistant, Amanda McGaha. Besides being there for all our agents, she is

nc mountains: Happy Vintage Valentine’s Day from the Murphy, NC Mountains - 02/14/12 08:35 AM
Happy Valentine’s Day from the Murphy, NC Mountains.During the late 1800s, postage rates around the world dropped, and the obscene St. Valentine's Day card became popular, despite the Victorian era being otherwise very prudish. As the numbers of racy valentines grew, several countries banned the practice of exchanging Valentine's Day cards. During this period, Chicago's post office rejected more than 25,000 cards on the grounds that they were so indecent, they were not fit to be carried through the U.S. mail. In Victorian times it was considered bad luck to sign a Valentine's Day card. Here are a few not-too racy

nc mountains: Speechless Sunday in the Murphy, NC Mountains! - 01/01/12 05:53 PM
Another Speechless Sunday in the Murphy, NC Mountains as we’re out previewing properties today this first day of January 2012. Highlands is a beautiful area and they have one of the nicest downtown areas to park and stroll along all the unique shops and restaurants. But those are for another post about our daytrip. We hadn’t been over to Dry Falls in about 10 years and it was about time we made the rounds of some of the best waterfalls in

nc mountains: The Cherokee Legend of Why the Possum's Tail is Bare - 03/11/10 07:29 PM
Why the Possum's Tail is Bare Possum once had a very long busy tail. He was so proud of it that he combed it out every morning and he always sang about it at the dances. Rabbit used to have a long busy tail too, but he lost his in the frozen lake. Rabbit was jealous of Possum's tail, so he decided to play a trick on Possum. A great council meeting and dance was to be held; all the animals were invited to attend. It was Rabbit's job to spread the news. Passing Possum's place, he stopped to ask
