commentary: Freddie Mae & Fannie Mac Bailout: Should I Be Happy? - 09/08/08 07:08 AM

It's official. 
In the biggest government bailout in U.S. history, the Treasury said that regulators are seizing control of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  The home mortgage giants will be run by the government indefinately.  The two current chief executives will be replaced and the government will invest up to $100 billion in each firm to keep them solvent.  To improve the availability of mortgages, the Treasury will start buying Freddie and Fannie's mortgage backed debt in the open market.

I have long contended that 90% of home buying decisions are made by women.  That woman is usually the wife, girlfriend, mother or mother-in-law or gal pal.  We guys try to act as if we are the rulers of our domain, but we all know the truth :).  While women are looking closely at the kitchen
and bathrooms, we (the guys, the fellas) are scouting out a perfect location for the Man Cave.    What is a man cave?  I am glad you asked.

DO YOU PICK IT UP?
For whatever reson, I have always been a person who picks up wayward coins that I find.  Much of that probably has to do with my upbringing.  You see, I grew up in a middle class working family.  We were not poor, but we not upper class by a long shot.  My parents did many creative things to make ends meet.  The other day I was listening to a story on National Public Radio.  The story detailed a family that always picks up coins and they log how much money they pick up.  It started out … (31 comments)
