Failure Doesn’t Mean You Are A Failure by Leander McClain, Realtor See that smiling guy in the picture to your left…..that’s me. Posing in front of one of my first listings. I was a new real estate agent, I was younger ,had more hair (well maybe not ) and didn’t have a clue of what I was doing. However, I decided that I was going to be successful and that was that. If I had to fake it until I made it….then so be it. I once was an adjuct professor at a junior college. My mentor told me not to

inspiration: Goodbye Winter: Now It's Time For My Spring Shave - 03/20/09 11:54 AM
It's Spring Today is March 20,2009. It is the first day of spring.....yeah. The last sign of winter is gone. What is that you may ask??? My Grey Beard...lol Last night, I stood in m house and after the trumpets stopped blaring, I made the following pronouncment. "Tonight is the last day that you will see this unshaven face until the first day of Winter 2009. The King has spoken. Please govern yourselves accordingly" Well, after my wife stopped laughing and rolling her eyes at me...oh yeah, and after I got down off of the chair, I proceeded to shave.

inspiration: Dreams: Always Have One - 03/18/09 08:10 AM
DREAMS Dreams......we all need to have a dream. A dream that is personal and unique to your own situation. If you don't have a dream, you will continue to travel in circles going nowhere fast in life. Leander McClain has always had a dream or three. My dreams have changed over the years. As I got older and wiser, some of the things in my dreams have been replaced by other things. As a young man, I was infatuated by cars. I could tell you the name make and model of every car that we passed on the street. I always

inspiration: A Job Worth Doing Is Worth Doing Well - 02/26/09 05:26 AM
A Job Worth Doing Is Worth Doing Well I am sure that you are looking at the picture of the pizza to the right and wondering.....huh??? Stick with me :) My grandfather C.D. Pryor used to "preach" about a lot of things. As a child, I would get tired of hearing the same thing over and over again. As an adult, I can appreciate the wisdom he was attempting to pass on to the next generation. One of the pearls of wisdom that I heard countless times was... A Job Worth Doing Is Worth Doing Well So what does that have

Rut Ro - Did You Hear That Thunk? Warning: Graphic Content Ahead. Animal lovers and squeamish look away now! Friday afternoon, I was on my way home. I was feeling pretty good about myself because I had just donated blood. This was the first time that I have donated in at least five years. I used to donate all the time, but after all of the poking and prodding I was getting in the Navy, I decided to take a break. Anyway....back to the story at hand. I drove under a bridge and I heard a thunk at the top

inspiration: Just Because I'm Losing, Doesn't Mean I'm Lost! - 02/06/09 09:00 AM
Just Because I am Losing Doesn't Mean I'm Lost I was listening to one of my favorite rappers this morning Jay-Z. He did a mash up album with Coldplay titled "Viva La Hova". Ok I know, I know....most people who are reading this are saying Jay who? Cold what? And what does this have to do with real estate or the price of tea in China.....stick with me. The first lines of the song Lost are as follows "Just because I'm losing, Doesn't mean that I'm lost. Doesn't mean I'll stop, Doesn't mean I'll cross". I used to tell people all

Everyday You Must Work On YOUR Survival Every morning in Africa, A gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa A lion wakes up. It knows it must out run the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. When the sun comes up, YOU BETTER START RUNNING! Last year, I wrote a post titled Nothing From Nothing Leaves Nothing. The life lesson from that post is that you take out, what you put in. Too many people are searching for a

OOPS Good Morning, Let me tell y'all how my day started yesterday. I was driving through a parking lot, when a car ahead of me started to drive across my path. I took my eye off the road for a split second to see what the other driver was doing. When I turned back around, the following happened in slow motion...... Ladi...da...I am my regular happy go lucky self........."that kinda looks like a pole........no.......why would a pole be in the middle of the parking lot....it looks like that pole which is not supposed to be in the middle of the parking

inspiration: Make 2009 Your BEST YEAR Ever! - 01/01/09 04:22 PM
Make 2009 Your BEST YEAR Ever This is the time that many people make New Years resolutions. Many times resolutions are made on or before January 1st and broken by February 1st. Several years ago, I made a change. I stopped making new years resolutions in the traditional manor. First of all, I no longer wait until January 1st to start my goals for the New Year. I usually start somewhere in the middle of November. Secondly, I stopped setting myself up for failure. What I mean by that is, I stopped setting particular health and money goals. You

inspiration: Reccomended Reading: The FRED Factor - 10/22/08 09:59 AM
THE FRED FACTOR This is a wonderful book which really helped my outlook on life. It is a short read and should only take you an hour or so to read. At the end of that hour, if you are like me, you have the tools to feel better about your job....no matter what that job is. Here is a quote from the book: "When your life is at low tide, when your professional commitment is wavering and you just want to get the job done and go home at the end of the day, what can you do? Here's what

inspiration: I LOVE REAL ESTATE - 10/20/08 12:15 PM
Let me say this right up front, I LOVE The Real Estate Industry. I also suspect that there are tens of thousands of others out there that feel the same as I do. While so many are focusing on the state of the economy and the crumbling real estate market, I choose to focus on why I got into real estate in the first place. I LOVE The Real Estate Industry. You see, no one ever promised that being in this industry was going to be easy. No one ever promised that I would be able to

inspiration: You Can Have Whatever You Like! - 10/14/08 11:45 PM
LIFE Have you ever seen a kid in a candy store? So many choices. So many limitations. Life is just like being a kid in a candy store. You really CAN have whatever you like. The question is, are you willing to do what it takes to get what you want? The kid is first faced with a limitation.....Candy costs and he has a limited supply of money. When I was a kid, penny candy costs a penny (some 2 for a penny). In order to get money for candy, we would collect returnable bottles, old scrap aluminum, wash cars, clean out

inspiration: I Had A BAD DAY!!!!.....Or Was It?? - 10/11/08 07:54 AM
I HAD A BAD DAY :(well not really) Readers of my blog know that I am generally a happy guy. My family and friends know that even more. I am quick with a laugh or a smile. I always try to look at the bright side of life and I enjoy helping others. Even when things are not going well, I am generally happy. Well, yesterday was an exception. Thursday on the way to work, the camshaft broke in my car (ie - you need a new engine kiddo). I have another personal situation that I can't seem to get resolved,

inspiration: Do You Know Someone Who Is ALWAYS Angry!!! :( - 10/06/08 07:17 AM
Do You Know Someone Who Is Always Angry? I was talking to a buddy of mine this weekend and we were discussing an angry guy. Someone asked the question...."why is he so angry"? The response was...."don't worry about it. No matter what, this guy is always angry" I have learned that in order to improve yourself, you must first look in the mirror and be honest with yourself. I have to admit, that I too used to be that angry man. My anger was a result of frustration. No matter what, I seemed to be frustrated on all sides. The more I

Last weekend my wife & I spent some time in North Carolina. We had dinner with several couples including Carol & Brad. Carol and Brad lived and raised their family in the south for 20 years, but were originally from the north. When Carol & Brad were selling their house in North Carolina an older southern gentleman came to look at the house. In the midst of the conversation, the man made a comment that they were Yankees (a term used to describe Northerners). Carol quickly corrected him and told him that they may Yankees, but their youngest son was

inspiration: Top Producer - What Have YOU Done For Me Lately - 09/28/08 08:21 AM
I am currently on a small get away weekend with my wife. Last night, we were looking at a self written review for a restaurant that we were going to. The comments stated: Voted #1 Restaurant for years 2000-2004 and 2006-2007. My wife made the following comment " I wonder who beat them out in 2005". That got me to thinking about real estate (everything gets me thinking about real estate). We have all read profiles that include statements like "top-producer 2000-2005". The consumer is probably wondering....what happened since 2005? When the real estate market started cooling off, were you (Mr/Ms

inspiration: Are you a VULTURE or a SPARROW. - 09/25/08 09:45 AM
Are You a VULTURE or a SPARROW? One of the things that we all have to do from time to time is to be honest with ourselves. We have to look in the mirror and determine if like what we see. I always contend that we become similar to the people that we associate with. If you associate with vultures, YOU are probably a vulture. Vultures seldom attack healthy animals, but may kill the wounded or sick. They gorge themselves when prey is abundant, till they are full. They they sit, sleepy or half torpid, to digest their food. IS THIS HOW
