Wake Forest NC 4th of July Celebrations Wake Forest NC goes ALL out for 4th of July and this year is NO exception! Not only do we have an incredible Fireworks display but it's a party for days! The 4th of July Celebration starts on Saturday July 3rd and rolls right through Monday July 5th. Well, if last night at Trentini Stadium wasn't enough - Celebrating Independence Day in Wake Forest, NC - OUTSTANDING Day 1 - the fun and festivities certainly continued today with the Children's Parade in historic downtown Wake Forest at 10am and then over to Holding Park for the arts and crafts festival at 11am. There were tons of games like tug-of-war, water balloon fights and watermelon seed spitting contests. The Community House was set up with several arts and crafts stations such as face painting, airplane making, make your own sun visor and decorate your own cupcakes. The kids have SO MUCH

What a great way to cool off, splash around and spend the afternoon! Holding Park Community Pool With the weekend winding down and the temperatures reaching 90 degrees we decided to venture out for a little cool spot and the Holding Park Community Pool fit the bill perfectly! Holding Park Pool is one of the largest outdoor public swimming pools in the area - the 50-meter pool is open in the summer and offers "open" swim times, swim lessons, lap swims, parent/toddler swims and water aerobics! Admission is very reasonable at only $4 for ages 13 and over,

Whew - this has certainly been back and forth! First we had The Drought - An Impact Greater Than You Know..... - yep, the pool was almost closed for summer. Then we had Holding Park Pool vs. The Drought - Wake Forest Pool Closed For Summer - The pool was definitely closed for summer and now we have.............. Rain Allows Holding Pool to Open!!!!!!!!! Since January 1, 2008 we have had 47.07 inches of rain here in the Raleigh area! It has been WONDERFUL! We are still 8.59 inches below normal but the deluge was a welcome respite to the awful dry spell that

How sad! I posted a blog titled The Drought - A Greater Impact Than You Know.... last week that highlight the decision that was weighing heavily on town leaders. That decision was whether or not to suspend the pool season for 2008. A decision was to be made by May 1st as to the fate of this iconic summer gathering spot. Sadly, it has been decided that the Community Pool at Holding Park will not operate this season. Oh my! While I completely understand the conundrum that the town faces I just can't imagine a summer without the Community Pool at Holding Park! It is such an iconic landmark and it bustling with activity during the summer! Due to the horrific drought that we have experienced here in the south the Wake Forest town leaders are contemplating NOT opening the pool this summer. It is a decision that they do not take lightly.
