Hot off the presses....we now have mandatory water restrictions in Harrisburg NC as a response to the current drought situation.
Yes, we had a thunderstorm last night (first rain in what, 6 weeks?), but it wasn't enough.  And too many people aren't conscious of their water usage.  So here we go:
*Watering and irrigation of lawns, ornamental plants, and gardens shall occur only between 8:00 PM and 8:00 AM on Wednesday and Saturday. Here's an easy way to save a little money today, if you live in Harrisburg NC or in the Harrisburg NC fire districts!
Our fire equipment has been upgraded, and as such, we're eligible for a reduction in our homeowner's insurance rates.  Just call your insurance agent (if you don't like the one you have, I highly recommend Lou Lagana with State Farm in Harrisburg, he's wonderful).

Harrisburg NC Update-Big Box Doesn't Always Win! - 08/16/07 08:36 AM
Hot off the presses in Harrisburg NC, where we've been struggling with the issues that surround smart growth!
Our town turned down a zoning request from Lowe's Home Improvement in the fall, and the town was promptly sued by Lowe's.  Lovely, right?
Last night, the town received word from the judge that the town's decision to deny rezoning was upheld.  If we don't want Lowe's there, we don't have to have Lowe's there.
Of course as most of you know, my biggest goal for the town is to keep out Wal-Mart and its ilk.  This kind of decision should give heart to the folks … (7 comments)

I just fired a listing here in lovely (and HOT) Charlotte NC.
The seller is a veteran.  He purchased this townhome several years ago, his first purchase.  He utilized the VA loan program.  As time went by, he changed jobs and changed areas and this townhome turned into an investment property.
Well, as sometimes happens, the neighborhood went into decline.  Pool and tennis courts shuttered and overgrown with weeds.  Sold properties in the neighborhood mostly a pile of foreclosures in pretty wretched condition.  A couple of nice comps that had been upfitted and renovated-but not enough of them to offset the general direction … (12 comments)

If you've been reading my blog for long, you already know that my dad is my business partner.  We opened our RE/MAX franchise in December 2003 and are fortunate to have a relationship that allows us to work together and still remain close.

Please Be Smart About Your Water Usage! - 08/06/07 01:51 PM
It's hot here in Charlotte NC, hotter than usual (over 100 degrees today and HUMID!).  And it's dry-we haven't had nearly enough rain lately.
So the local governments (that is, Concord, Kannapolis, Harrisburg, and Landis in Cabarrus County) are asking folks to voluntarily get smart with their water usage.  It's not required yet-if we would all pitch in and behave, mandatory restrictions wouldn't be necessary.
And we're not talking about things that are difficult to do!  Here are some of the suggestions for cutting back:
Water your lawn, if you must, between 9p and 7a.  (*If you didn't already know, watering during the day just evaporates … (5 comments)
