marketing: Marketing Misfire - 07/12/14 06:05 AM
Marketing Misfire

About a year and a half ago I bought a new website, and over the past few months have been doing many edits and SEO work.  The good news?  It's working!  I'm on page 1 or 2 of google for a lot of different searches.  Most of them are things I've targeted - and the targeting is going well.  I first began targeting search terms with less than 2 million results, and once I figured out Google just a little bit more (it's always a moving target and I don't claim to be anywhere CLOSE to … (11 comments)

marketing: Monday Motivation - Learning from mistakes - 02/24/14 09:54 AM

Monday Motivation - A new blog post each week intended to inspire and motivate.  Hope your week's off to a great start!

"The successful man will profit from his mistakes, and try again in a different way"
-Dale Carnegie

Today's post comes a bit late in the day, because (moment of honesty here) I wasn't feeling particularly motivated today myself, and who am I to try to inspire others if I can't seem to motivate myself?

I reflected on this as I recently stumbled into a conversation in which a … (32 comments)

"We are always getting ready to live, but never living"

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

I've got no problem living.  At 29, I've done more craziness & have seen more things than many people have the opportunity to in their lifetime.  Life comes easy to me most times, but in my business, I have a preparation problem.  Not a problem where I do things half-assed or don't prepare enough.  My problem … (30 comments)

marketing: No Risk....No Glory!!!! - 01/22/14 11:20 AM

Barbara write an outstanding blog that resonated with me because it reminds me of a favorite saying of mine, "you've got to spend money to make money". It's the truth, good marketing is going to cost either time or money.  The best agents & lenders alike realize that to increase volume & income, we've got to increase our marketing dollars spent.
The "why isn't everyone doing it?" part of the game comes into play with the fact that not ALL dollars spent are smart dollars.  The difficult part is finding the right way to spend money, and then not hesitating to … (5 comments)

marketing: How NOT to Network - 01/17/14 06:35 AM
How NOT to network

Networking (from Merriam-Webster) : The exchange of information or services among individuals, groups, or institutions; specifically :  the cultivation of productive relationships for employment or business.

Did Merriam-Webster intentionally leave out "unsolicited bulk email" as a means of networking?  Should they have included "find emails on the internet and immediately solicit them"?  Or perhaps this definition came out before dialers were popular, and they should have added "put a person you've never met into your database & let a computer call them...if they want to talk with you they can press 1".  I'm almost … (30 comments)

marketing: Monday Motivation - Be of Value - 01/13/14 05:36 AM

Monday Motivation - A new post each week intended to inspire & motivate.  Hope your week's off to a great start!

"Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value."
-Albert Einstein

My favorite thing about this quote is it's brevity.  So much is summed up in such a small phrase.  I find Einstein's quote to be particularly important to the real estate industry, as we are each in charge of our own business and strive the be a success in what we do.  The point is, often times … (49 comments)

"You must accept that you might fail; then, if you do your best and still don't win, at least you can be satisfied that you tried.  If you don't accept failure as a possibility, you don't set high goals, you don't branch out, you don't try and you don't take the risk."

"All the mistakes I ever made were when I wanted to say 'no' and said 'yes'."
-Moss Hart

This quote is important to remember when it comes to managing your time.  Human nature pushes us to avoid confrontation & to avoid hurting others feelings.  For this reason, it's often easier to get a 'yes' out of someone than have them reject you to your face.  This is also the reason people avoid you, don't … (8 comments)

marketing: Monday Motivation - Cost VS Value - 10/14/13 07:35 AM

"There are so many people who can figure costs and so few who can measure values."
-John Jennings

I saw this quote today while looking for something to inspire me, and it struck me because it reminds me of one of my favorite lessons.  A quote I often throw around that I learned from one of my mentors is "Write small checks so you can cash large checks".  Too many people in the world … (7 comments)

Persistence & Hustle

"I learned from experience that if there was something lacking, it might turn up if I went after it, saved up for it, worked for it, but never if I just waited for it.
Of course, you had to be lucky, too, although I discovered that the more I hustled, the luckier I seemed to get.  Besides, most of the happiness was in the pursuit.  As my Uncle Benny used to … (4 comments)

marketing: What I've learned growing my business - 09/03/13 11:07 AM
What I've learned growing my business
Thanks to the inspiring contest, I've given some thought to what has changed in my business over the past 6+ years in business and WOW.  I came up with a lot.  Since graduating college in 2006, I've learned far more than I had the previous 17 years of schooling.

marketing: SHUT UP! (and listen) - 03/07/13 04:24 AM
SHUT UP!!!!  (and listen).

If  I could offer people one piece of advice that would improve their relationships, make their business more efficient, and increase the return on marketing, it would be this - SHUT UP! (and listen)

The motivation for this post? I'm working on a loan that's almost cleared for closing. The last item we needed was some homeowners insurance info.  Usually, we send over a request with a checklist of everything we need covered via email, and it gets sent back ok...quick & easy.

In this instance, it took a ton of emails, 2 unreturned … (29 comments)

marketing: Finally Facebook - 02/27/13 07:52 AM
So I'm a little behind the times, but I've (finally) began spending some time putting together and keeping up with my facebook business page.  I would imagine most of the people reading this also have Facebook pages (and twitters, and linkedIN, amongst others) and it made me wonder a couple of things.

What do you use facebook for most?

To kill time?  Keep up with friends and family?  Marketing?  Games (God, I hope not)?

Has social media been a benefit to your business or a time waster?

I see my facebook business page … (3 comments)
