lenn harley: TOOT TOOT!! - 09/26/12 05:15 AM
It's O.K. to blow your own horn once in a while!
I've been working very hard this year.  My referral network is not producing adequately.  So, on January 1, 2012, I said to myself, "Lenn, get off that computer and get out and sell some real estate".
Done and Done.
I have been working directly with home buyers more this year than in the past 13 years.  In previous years, my focus was on referrals to my network of referral brokers/agents.  Still is, but in the mean time, until the market recovers, I should live so long, I will sell real … (44 comments)

lenn harley: It Was A Bird! It Was A White Bird! It Was A Big White Bird!! A Realtor's World. - 09/11/12 06:06 AM
THANKS TERRY'S AUTO BODY SHOP REPAIR - AGAIN!
Driving down Route 15 going South to preview some new homes in Gainesville for a buyer, minding my own business, when I saw a white flash that went by me on the driver's side.  Driving at about 50 mph, it took me a moment to focus out the side window.  DANG!!!  My driver's side rear view mirror was hanging by a wire.
Clearly the white flash was a bird, probably a gull, that flew into my mirror with such force it broke the bracket that mounts the mirror to the car.
I drove … (18 comments)

lenn harley: Who is the Most Awesome Person Today? My Version of ActiveRain's Daily "Member Spotlight" (Part XV) - 07/05/11 11:43 AM

About that leather outfit.

Back in the 1980s I actually made a leather outfit for chilly weather shooting.  It was hunter green, not black, but it was awesome.  I wore my leather outfit, pants and a jacket (all very form fitting) and western boots when I shot competition trap on the weekends.
Photo circa 1985.
Why did I wear a leather outfit?  HA!  To psych the competition who were 99.5% male.
It worked.
Hey, I was no spring chicken, but for the primarily "geezers" that I competed with, I was "hot".

lenn harley: NORTHERN VIRGINIA LANDSCAPING, INCLUDE DECORATIVE GRASSES - 10/06/08 07:49 AM
IT'S TIME FOR HOME OWNERS TO DO THE FALL PLANTING TO SPRUCE UP THE LANDSCAPING FOLLOWING THE HOT SUMMER.
Imagine.  Grass that had to be trimmed only once a year.
Landscaping is about ready to go dormant for the winder.  However, this is a great time to plant hardy perinnials.  You'll love seeing these plants come to life next spring.  Many yards and landscaping plans will benefit from the addition of decorative grasses.  I love them and have them throughout my landscaping plans.  Some are borders.  Some are accent plants.  I have a few to shield the Heat Pump from view.  No matter where they grow, … (14 comments)

Inspired by Bob Stewart's comment on Gary Bolen's post Yesterday's article "Extraordinary Measures": Should a Writer about our Industry Hear from our Industry?
Enjoy.  Little has changed.  The media still portray us as contributing little to the home buying process.  The more things change, the more they stay the same.  Of course, if I'd written the article today, I'd have a few more images for interest.

Tom Pulsifer, an old friend from RealTalk and e-PROTalk.
I received an e-mail last week from Tom Pulsifer asking where I ws and what I was doing these days.  Folks who know me for years from ActiveRain often e-mail inquiring about my health.
"I'm fine.  I'm hanging out at ActiveRain.  Come on over" is my response.
Tom joined today.  Check him out.  There aren't many members in Habersham County, Georgia.

IS THIS REALLY A GREAT TIME TO BUY A HOME?
OR, PERHAPS IT'S TIME FOR A REALITY CHECK.
                                      * *   WARNING - HARD CORE REAL ESTATE TALK  * *
In some real estate markets, it may be a good time to buy real estate, perhaps.  In Maryland and Northern Virginia, perhaps not.  Simply proclaiming that "IT'S A GREAT TIME TO BUY A HOME" just isn't persuading many prospective home buyers.  Consider some reasons why buyers just aren't buying.

lenn harley: FIVE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS - LENN HARLEY - 08/12/07 11:26 AM
Tagged by Pat Kennedy to reveal five of my favorite books, I'm Kerschmunkled.  How can I name 5 of my   favorite books?  I would have a hard time picking favorite 50 books.  I might even have           a hard time naming 500 favorite favorite books.  But, I'll give it a try.  Where to start?  The following are a few that I "couldn't put down".  Centennial.  James A. lenn harley: WHY I DON'T TAKE BUYER REFERRALS FROM LENDERS - A CONTRARY VIEW - 08/03/07 11:29 PM
WARNING:    HARD CORE REAL ESTATE AHEAD
This is a post I probably don't really want featured.  I'm inspired to write about one of the ugly sides of our business when the relationship between lenders and real estate agents is less than "arms length".  The question is "Should buyer's agents accept buyer referrals from loan officers?"  I say NO.
I DO NOT ACCEPT BUYER REFERRALS FROM LOAN OFFICERS.  I do refer buyers to loan officers.  If I am assisting a buyer with existing homes, they are probably going to meet their loan officer through me.  In fact, I've referred a few buyers to ActiveRain member loan officers.  One … (116 comments)
