real estate business: Is it really the "joy of helping people" that motivates a person to want to sell real estate? - 10/14/11 12:07 PM
Is it really the "joy of helping people"??? Does anyone seriously believe that a real estate agent went into the real estate business because they wanted to "help people"?? I don't believe it and if that's an agent's motivation to become a real estate agent, I don't believe that they are someone I'd want to hire. Inspired by Ira Muskin with a thought provoking post wherein he wrote that when agents are asked why they entered the real estate business: "Most often I hear it is the 'joy of helping people.' Sounds corny, but it is a prevailing attitude.""PREVAILING ATTITUDE"?? WHAT MOTIVATES A PERSON TO

real estate business: THE REAL ESTATE INDUSTRY OFFERS STRUCTURE AND OPPORTUNITY FOR A "START-UP BUSINESS" OWNER. - 09/07/10 07:17 AM
THE REAL ESTATE INDUSTRY OFFERS STRUCTURE AND OPPORTUNITY. A thought provoking post this morning by Leslie Ebersole addresses a subject near and often not so dear to many real estate agents and brokers, entry level standards and opportunity. At least that is what it said to me. See: If This Was Easy, Our Wives Could Do It Leslie compares the opportunities for women offered by the real estate industry to other industries. I believe that the real estate industry excels in opportunity for women. Further, I don't see the "paying money to get to do the job" as a barrier. The capital necessary

real estate business: UNDERSTANDING THE REAL ESTATE BUSINESS is UNDERSTANDING OUR PLACE IN THE ECONOMY. YOU MUST "FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFLY and STING LIKE A BEE". - 05/31/10 06:00 PM
UNDERSTANDING THE REAL ESTATE BUSINESS is UNDERSTANDING OUR PLACE IN TODAY'S ECONOMY. YOU MUST "FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFLY and STING LIKE A BEE". INSPIRED BY A THOUGHTFUL POST BY STACIE WELLS, wherein she quoted an attorney who said Realtors Are a Dime a Dozen, my first thought was. . . "HA! So are attorneys". Of course, when I read deeper into the post, I realized that the attorney was referring to the number of Realtors leaving the business. When real estate practice is not profitable, many licensees turn to private or government employment. BUT WAIT! What does that mean, "private or government employment"??

real estate business: It's Time To Get Your Feet Off The Desk !! - 05/26/10 09:34 AM
"a routine of hard core marketing needs to be established and exercised consistently." Truer words were never written about succeeding in the real estate business. Living from commission check to commission check will not enable any agent or broker to survive these lean years. Our expenses are what they were when we were seeing 4 times the buyers and as many sellers. real estate business: EVOLVE OR BECOME EXTINCT - DON'T BE A TROGLODYTE. THE REAL ESTATE INDUSTRY IS EVOLVING, ARE YOU?? - 10/06/09 05:30 PM
EVOLVE OR BECOME EXTINCT - DON'T BE A TROGLODYTE. THE REAL ESTATE INDUSTRY IS EVOLVING, ARE YOU?? The only place one can see the mighty Cave Beast is on a remote wall in some cave in Western France. Or, on the wall over Lenn's computer. This painting is a daily reminder to me that - - I evolve or I become extinct. THE BUSINESS IS CHANGING. ARE YOU? Fortunately, we as practitioners of real estate sales, mortgage lending, home inspection or closing officers are sentient beings and not Paleolithic animal art. We are in business as individuals who have the capacity

real estate business: REAL ESTATE AGENTS ON HIATUS. . . REAL ESTATE BROKERS CLOSING OFFICES. . . AGENTS "ON REFERRAL". . . AGENTS ON SABBATICAL. THEY'LL BE BACK. - 10/03/09 06:29 AM
REAL ESTATE AGENTS ON HIATUS. . . REAL ESTATE BROKERS CLOSING OFFICES. . . AGENTS "ON REFERRAL". . . AGENTS ON SABBATICAL. THEY'LL BE BACK. A SIGN OF THE TIMES and clearly A REFLECTION OF THE ECONOMY. Laurie Mindnich writes an intriguing article today about agents dropping out. My question is "Dropping out of what?" True, many are dropping out of their local, state and national Realtor associations or boards. The fees are outrageous and clearly discourage continued membership in times of economic slow downs. HOWEVER, are they dropping out of "real estate"? I suspect not. In my view, agents dropping memberships is

real estate business: MEMORIES AT ACTIVERAIN!. . . . "DON'T TELL MY AGENTS I'M SENDING BUSINESS AWAY" - 09/16/09 05:14 AM
Robert Swetz inspired me to go back, way back, to an article posted on December 10, 2006. While I generally pass on contests, this one managed by Robert Swetz, got my attention. MEMORIES AT ACTIVERAIN??? Goodness, I have so many ActiveRain memories. From my first blog post on August 13, 2006, ActiveRain has been a wonderful adventure that reaches out to the real estate world. The message is still important. Your business is your business and, if you operate your real estate business in an honest, ethical and diligent manner, you have a good chance of success. This article was posted

real estate business: GET OUT OF BED AND GO TO WORK IN THE MORNING, EVEN IF IT'S JUST DOWN THE HALL. - 02/27/09 05:55 PM
John MacArthur, a gentleman and a scholar, who uses grace and finesse to inspire agents in the office he manages, inspired me to render a bit of HARD CORE REAL ESTATE ADVICE. GET BUSY. Do a business plan where you determine your market and your resources and and and work it hard. If the market changes, be nimble and ready to change focus with the market. THINK ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS EVERY DAY. Remember that being a real estate salesperson is a full time job and get up in the morning and go to work, even if it's down the hall. Put in as much time
