eclosing: From e-docs to e-Signings: paperless closings - 05/02/09 03:00 PM
One of the primary tools of a notary signing agent is a laser printer (and lots of paper). It's how we get the loan documents printed for closings. The method of delivering the documents may vary. Most of the time they are sent to us as email attachments. Sometimes we have

eclosing: eSigning: Mortgage loan closings for the Digital Age - 04/10/09 06:58 AM
During the closing I had last night in Colorado Springs, one of the borrowers asked me, 'What is the advantage to doing it this way?'
He was referring to the fact that he, his wife, and I were sitting at their dining room table, viewing the loan documents on my laptop

eclosing: eSigning: digital borrower copies - 01/19/09 04:37 PM
One of the differences between a closing with paper documents and an eSigning, apart from the fact that the borrowers sign their loan documents with an electronic signature, is the way in which the borrowers receive their copies of the loan documents.
I had an eSigning (eClosing) this morning. Normally, with

eclosing: Forging an electronic signature: eSigning - 01/01/09 12:09 PM
E-closings (eSignings) provide a way for the borrower to sign their loan documents electronically. With the click of a mouse they can sign one, or even several documents at once.
The borrower is not the only one who can sign these documents. A flaw in the system? Computer

eclosing: eSignings: getting the BIG picture - 12/22/08 07:23 AM
I have done many closings for borrowers who are visually impaired. I recall one woman who had to use a magnifying glass just to see where the signature line was on the document. Reading the print on the documents was even more difficult. It was a very frustrating experience for her.

eclosing: What is a reasonable fee for eSign closings? - 11/08/08 02:04 PM
Before we can answer that question, we should first ask the question: Are eSign closings (eClosings) more or less work for the Notary Signing Agent?
The answer is clearly -- more.
Not only is there more work involved, it costs the notary signing agent more to do them. These closings

eclosing: Smartphone for Notary Signing Agent work - 09/28/08 09:13 AM
One of the reasons why I switched to using a smartphone was because I wanted to eliminate some of the gadgets that I was using.
Two of the items that I no longer have to carry are a cell phone and a PDA. Both are essential to the work that I

eclosing: Trust your own equipment when doing eSignings - 09/28/08 06:56 AM
I was reading about a notary signing agent who was having problems during an eSign closing. It was at the borrower's home, and the eSigning was being done using the borrower's computer.
He was assured that their connection to the internet was fast, and that their computer was new and in

I attended the AmTrust eSign training webinar this afternoon. It was conducted by James Siemer, senior trainer in the mortgage consulting center at AmTrust.
The webinar started promptly at 2PM (EST) and lasted for about an hour. I recorded the audio portion by putting my phone on speakerphone and using my

eclosing: eSigning for the computer unsavvy borrower - 09/22/08 03:44 AM
Perhaps you've seen the cell phone commercial in which the two kids are explaining to their parents how to operate their cell phones before sending them off to work.
It's a reality that there are many people who are bewildered by technology, and think that 'Bluetooth' is some kind of gum

eclosing: The Notary Signing Agent as Technician - 09/18/08 05:23 AM
We've come a long way from the days when you could buy an appliance, bring it home, plug it in, and you were ready to use it. Nowadays it seems you have to have computer programming skills to get anything to work.
Several months ago I switched my high speed internet

eclosing: Conducting an eSigning (eClosing) - 09/10/08 04:56 AM
Notary Signing Agents who have the necessary equipment may be called on to conduct an eSigning (eClosing).
Don't hesitate to accept these assignments. These types of signings are not difficult. But there are some things to consider to ensure that the closing goes smoothly.

eclosing: eSigning in Colorado Springs - 09/05/08 07:21 PM
I had the opportunity to do an eSigning (eClosing) this morning in Colorado Springs. There were still several paper documents that needed to be signed the traditional way, but hopefully we will see the scales tip more and more towards a complete electronic signing someday.
As suggested by the lender, I
