esign: From e-docs to e-Signings: paperless closings - 05/02/09 03:00 PM
One of the primary tools of a notary signing agent is a laser printer (and lots of paper).  It's how we get the loan documents printed for closings.  The method of delivering the documents may vary.  Most of the time they are sent to us as email attachments.  Sometimes we have … (9 comments)

esign: eSigning: Mortgage loan closings for the Digital Age - 04/10/09 06:58 AM
During the closing I had last night in Colorado Springs, one of the borrowers asked me, 'What is the advantage to doing it this way?'
He was referring to the fact that he, his wife, and I were sitting at their dining room table, viewing the loan documents on my laptop … (0 comments)

esign: Forging an electronic signature: eSigning - 01/01/09 12:09 PM
E-closings (eSignings) provide a way for the borrower to sign their loan documents electronically.  With the click of a mouse they can sign one, or even several documents at once.

The borrower is not the only one who can sign these documents.  A flaw in the system?  Computer … (2 comments)

esign: eSignings: getting the BIG picture - 12/22/08 07:23 AM
I have done many closings for borrowers who are visually impaired.  I recall one woman who had to use a magnifying glass just to see where the signature line was on the document.  Reading the print on the documents was even more difficult.  It was a very frustrating experience for her.

esign: What is a reasonable fee for eSign closings? - 11/08/08 02:04 PM
Before we can answer that question, we should first ask the question: Are eSign closings (eClosings) more or less work for the Notary Signing Agent?
The answer is clearly -- more.

Not only is there more work involved, it costs the notary signing agent more to do them.  These closings … (4 comments)

esign: Electronic notarization: the path to paperless eSignings - 10/18/08 10:37 PM
One of the drawbacks of eSignings is that, although it's supposed to eliminate paper loan documents, there are still paper documents to sign.  Ideally the borrower would be able to sign all of the documents with the click of a mouse.
But there are documents that require notarization.  Those documents still … (1 comments)

esign: Using public computers for eSignings: Is it safe? - 09/28/08 10:19 AM
One of the questions on a questionnaire I received regarding eSignings was, 'would I be willing to do the closing at a library using one of their computers.  Sure, I would be willing. I'm willing to do just about anything to facilitate getting a loan closed.
But is it safe?
Nothing … (3 comments)

esign: Trust your own equipment when doing eSignings - 09/28/08 06:56 AM
I was reading about a notary signing agent who was having problems during an eSign closing.  It was at the borrower's home, and the eSigning was being done using the borrower's computer.
He was assured that their connection to the internet was fast, and that their computer was new and in … (0 comments)

esign: Continuing Education: eSign training (webinar) - 09/23/08 11:04 PM
I attended the AmTrust eSign training webinar this afternoon. It was conducted by James Siemer, senior trainer in the mortgage consulting center at AmTrust.
The webinar started promptly at 2PM (EST) and lasted for about an hour. I recorded the audio portion by putting my phone on speakerphone and using my … (2 comments)

esign: The limitations of eSign - 09/17/08 11:42 AM
If you ask borrowers what they like least about closings, almost all will say the amount of paper involved in the loan documents, and the number of times they have to sign their name. It's tedious, and it's time consuming.
There must be a simpler way.
There is.  Still in its … (6 comments)

esign: Conducting an eSigning (eClosing) - 09/10/08 04:56 AM
Notary Signing Agents who have the necessary equipment may be called on to conduct an eSigning (eClosing).
Don't hesitate to accept these assignments.  These types of signings are not difficult.  But there are some things to consider to ensure that the closing goes smoothly.

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS
As with any … (6 comments)

esign: eSign furniture: Be Prepared - 04/11/08 12:10 PM
One of the most important lessons that I learned as a Boy Scout was: Be Prepared.
It's a good motto to go by. Especially for notary signing agents.  If you've done this long enough, you have closed loans in the most awkward circumstances, because there is no limit to when and where … (4 comments)

esign: eSign closings: "it is here" - 04/09/08 08:25 AM
"If you have a laptop computer and a wireless PC card for internet access (available through cell providers), or would be willing to equip yourself with these, we would like to know, so we can dispatch Esign closings to you.  We have all heard this for a while, but I can … (2 comments)
